I've played video games as long as I can remember. My memory of my life playing video games has been a bumpy one...things were great when all i had to play was Super Mario Bros. It was a rare thing to go through all the hard work of getting the nintendo out of the closet in order to play but because it happened so infrequently it made the times i got to play that much more fun. My next system was a nintendo handheld... but I dont remember much of it other than the games were very hard. Eventually I got a green see-through N64 and Donkey Kong 64. Hoollllyyyy shiiiiitttttt. This game was probably the biggest game I had played (other than mario 64 at friend's houses) and I have absolutely no idea how much time I spent playing it. I can still remember all of the music.
After that I got a ps2, gamecube, and started playing pc games. As you're probably expecting this boring story eventually leads up to sc2, but not quite yet. My first actual experience playing competitive video games was with Street Fighter IV. I owned the game as played it often but was still pretty bad because I was just playing it on my own without going online and readin guides or anything like that. Then one day in college (which I dropped out of but that is another story) I learned that a group of dudes were playing all kinds of fighting games in the bowling room every day and during all hours. This became the place I went to during all my free time... and I admit a lot of class time. I dont remember when but I finally discovered shoryuken.com which is basically the teamliquid of fighting games. I learned of a group that met up every weekend just a couple miles from my house..but I had no idea what to expect. I remember walking in the first day and only being able to hear metal (music) and people spamming the shit out of their arcade sticks. There were people of all types (age, race, etc) and half the people there were holding a beer. I was around 19 at the time so this kind of scene was pretty new to me. I immediately became friends with several people there who not only improved my game, but helped me in many ways a few years down the road. If not for some of those people I might be homeless or dead right now... I'm very glad and lucky that things turned out the way they did.
After a couple years of traveling all around south eastern US playing street fighter and just kinda hanging out, I finally decided it was time to get "a real life" and find a permanent place to stay and get a job. Because of my interest in "esports" I was always watching the random youtube vid with this or that game trying to find something else I liked. By some small chance I stumbled upon a then newly released video of liquid tyler vs liquid nazgul in the HDH beta invitational. After that series I downloaded all of the vods and watched the tournament from start to finish. I had played a shit ton of rts games before (C&C Generals anyone? how about starwars galactic battlegrounds?) but I never knew that they could be so competitive. (yes i obviously missed out on bw lol) And ever since then, I've been an avid sc2 fan. I've since stopped watching hd and husky, but I've got to give them thanks for introducing me into my current favorite pastime.
Well...I've gotten bored of writing this blog...so i guess it's a good time to stop. If I write a future blog I promise to put way more thought into it than this one. I think I'm going to play some sc2 and hopefully tyler will start streaming soon so I can get a clearer idea of the potential tech timings for a 2 gate fe vs zerg. For now, here is what I'm currently listening to. It's called "Goodbye Sober Day" by Mr Bungle.
