Been mildly interested to know how much of TL's audience overlaps with word game geekdom... probably not a whole lot but thought I'd ask.
I play a lot of boggle games online myself (learned how to touch type by playing word racer when I was 13 or something) and have gotten pretty good but not yet among the top tier of players. Sort of like NA grandmaster or something. Out of random boredom, I've started streaming myself. So if you're even more bored or are curious to see what boggle played fast looks like, check it out:

Also, if anyone out there plays scramble with friends and wants a challenge, my ID is jipkin. I score around 2500 - 4000 most games.
Any other word nerds out there?

my girlfriend and i get drunk and play boggle and then fight over words every sunday and i sleep on the couch fuck boggle

boggle is online? link some good bloggle games!
|
im trying to add fb scramble but it refuses to link me to a pc version
edit: yeah it seems scramble with friends isn't playable on fb/pc yet ...
|
I used to play boggle a lot, but in french. It's much better because we allowed all the verbs conjugations, and there's a lot.
|
|
Haven't played before but will check it out. I play a lot of scrabble, online and off. Anyone else?
Edit - Also, OP, can you provide a link to where you play?
|
Online boggle resources:
bitwordy - facebook app that replaces what scramble used to be on the pc. People who play play here.
wordwist.net - uses sowpods dictionary and is not live-comp, but everyone who is good has accounts there. Most active of any kind of boggle-related forum.
serpentine - at cobra-dragon.com is a remake of the game tangleword which used to be where all the best played. There are many strong players here, including some absolutely ridiculously good ones.
wordsplay.net - formerly weboggle, now is an ok game, but the level is sometimes not that good. Good features though, like being able to play on teams, and to see what words other players got which helps incase someone is cheating.

I love Boggle though I only play it offline...and not much these days. It's a game I can play with my wordgame people (my fiancee and my mom).

This literally made me lol.
Boggle is fun, my older sister is obsessed with it, but I don't have a fancy phone or reliable internet connection for that matter, so when I am back in the states, I will try to remember this!
Are you interested in word games or just language in general?
|
I'm no linquist, just like the games. I'm ok at scrabble but the boggle skills don't really translate all that well.
|
Idk why, but I've never liked boggle. I'm a big fan of games like scrabble and text twist, but boggle just doesn't do it for me.
|
Heh text twist essentially is boggle but with all letters connecting. Like N-dimensional boggle or something. Love it, but I get bored of looking for small words. Would rather just find the six letter word and move on until I miss.
|
Can someone explain to me exactly what boggle is?
|
there's a grid of letters, say 4x4. One then finds words in that grid by connecting the letters. You can go in any direction (including diagonal) but words must be made of connected letters, and the same letter tile cannot be used twice in the same word.
Here's a 2x2 example:
H A E T
There are several allowable 3+ letter words here: heat haet hate the eth eat eta tea tae ate hat het hae
However, words like teat would not be allowed (uses the t twice) and so forth.
|
It seems a bit lame that people just spam combinations of letters that could be words rather than only going for things that they think are words, but I guess that's probably the best way to play it

I used to play boggle I thought it was fun.

I spam a lot when I play just to keep my fingers moving more or less like pro SC players do in the beginning of games to keep their APM up. It rarely helps in finding words. I learn most of the weird words I know by studying the word list at the end of the game.
