So in a few hours I am heading to Rome from Oregon, I have a 3 hour flight to denver, layover, 3 hour flight to D.C, layover, 9 hour flight to Rome. My mom JUST got the iPad 3 today and gave me her iPad, and I need recommendations for movie, tv shows, and comics. As comics go I am new to the scene, I am in the process of reading V for Vendetta and have read and LOVED The Watchmen. I hate manga and all that so none of that, thinking the walking dead. For movies I like anything cerebral, just no stupid romantic comedies and what not, and my favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad and Arrested Development.

Any and all recommendations would be fantastic!

Here is my list of comics that I give people when they ask:

I read a ton of comics. I read a few of the monthlys, the "supes", but really a read a ton of graphic novels. I see a lot of good ones listed on here, but overall here are my favorites:
A few standards:
Sin City - Frank Miller
The Crow - James O'barr
Bone - Jeff Smith
The Maxx - Sam Keith
Strangers in Paradise - Terry Moore
Blankets - Craig Thompson*
Goodbye Chunky Rice - also Craig Thompson
Liberty Meadows - Frank Cho
(of course) Watchmen - Alan Moore
Cerebus the Aardvark - Dave Sim - I recommend the story arcs of High Society though Jaka's Story with Jaka's Story being one of the most amazing pieces of cartoon writing ever.
A few newer ones:
Bottomless Belly Button - Dash Shaw
Sweeth Tooth - Jeff Lemire
Essex County - also Jeff Lemire
The Nobody - again, Jeff Lemire
Too Cool to be Forgotten - Alex Robinson*
Wilson - Daniel Clowes
Transhuman - Jonathan Hickman
Doktor Sleepless - Warren Ellis
Rasl - Jeff Smith
Echo - Terry Moore
Habibi - Craig Thompson

That is just some of the books that I love. My wife makes fun of me because my collection boxes and bookshelves are almost pushing me out of my office where my computer lives and I play SC2. It is my geek-out room. =)

* - These are two of my favorite books ever written of any form. The cartooning and storytelling are so wonderful, especially for men as they deal with issues and feelings of growing up and the confusion that being a guy can have. I wept during both of them.

No, completely unrelated. Terry is American, Alan is British. Terry Moore is famous for his portrayals of women. In almost everything he has written it is a strong, young, female main character.

For tv shows I'd go for "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" if you want comedy or otherwise "The Wire".

Read 100% off of that list when you get a chance. Paul Pope is a wonderful cartoon storyteller.

I recently watched Becket and enjoyed it, it has some bromance in it though. Its also semi-religous, but not more then it needs to be considering for the most part it is a historically accurate movie depicting real events.

Good Omens by Neill Gayman and Terry Pratchett is awesome, i've read it multiple times now.
And, if that's your cup of tea, any of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett, I'm seriously addicted to those things.

Not comics, but definitely worth your time. And some of the Discworld books have an illustrated version available.

Archer is infact fantastic.
Also, Community is another great comedy. I loved the TV series Sherlock, and would highly recommend that for something more serious.

The Boondocks, Samurai Jack, The Wire, The Sopranos, Samurai Champloo are some great tv series.

Half Nelson, Requiem for a Dream, Trainspotting are good movies with some sort of deeper meaning(imo).

For the lulz: Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Harold & Kumar movies.

Edit: Forgot to mention, like the person above me said, Sherlock! This is a must watch!

As for Tv shows:

The Wire (one of the best ever)
Suits
The Big Bang Theory
Southland

For movies, well - if you like westerns get Young Guns and Tombstone

As a couple of people have said: The Wire. It is the best television show ever, and you will love it so much it will take up all of your travel time.

It's always hard to get someone to take you seriously when you say this, but I'll do it anyway.

Buffy the Vampire slayer. Especially if you like quirky social interaction like in Arrested Development and overarching storylines like in comic books. If you can survive till the second season, it's smooth sailing from 2-7 (but season 1 is important storyline wise).
Eagerly awaiting Techies.

Buffy the Vampire slayer. Especially if you like quirky social interaction like in Arrested Development and overarching storylines like in comic books. If you can survive till the second season, it's smooth sailing from 2-7 (but season 1 is important storyline wise).
