No kidding!
I have just recieved a letter (from Spain) that has a postal stamp reading "26/03/10" (should be comprehensible even to americans ). Let me put aside the fact that if it wasn't for this monumental act of idiocy by the postal service, I could have been collecting my "avios" for already two years and probably would be $500 heavier right now, not having to pay for my holiday tickets ....
The main point is: does anyone have an idea, how does this happen? WHAT does the letter DO the whole time? I would kinda thnik that it would be delivered in a couple of weeks or lost forever. Where could it have been lying for two years so that someono was finally able to find it and deliver? do we have any postmen to explain?

Maybe it's from March 10th, 2026????????????

It probably fell to the floor in a sorting facility somewhere, or under a table/whatever...then two years later someone found it and was like "ohey a letter lol" and pushed it through the rest of the mail system... dunno what else would have happened to it.
I like Chill's idea better. Does the letter tell you about things that are going to happen in the future?
"Dear Me,
This is you in the future. I have to tell you, man, don't sleep with the redhead. Yes the curtains match the drapes, I know you only did it to find out, but trust me, it's a terrible idea. Save our future!
Love, Me."

Well, 26/03/10 = (26-12)/03/(10+1) = (26-12-12)/03/(10+1+1) = 2/03/12 which means the letter is only 1 month old?
Thats how I see it anyways.

I always find it so stupid when americans(and english i guess) put the month before the day when writing a date. thats like showing time like this
4h 20sec 6min.
makes no fucking sense at all :D.
same as we idiots do in the german language when we pronounce a number like 486 like this: "fourhundred six and eigthy". or 67 as "seven and sixty"
fucking dumb. well german is a dumb language:D

I think it's done so you can say (when the date is 3/16/2012, for instance) March 16th, 2012. It makes sense when you read it aloud, but not otherwise.

Well what was the letter about ? _ ?
|
mm/dd/yyyy makes sense because month is the smallest number (max 12), day is the middle (max 31) and year is the biggest (infinity)
dd/mm/yy makes sense because its just the natural order that you would increment stuff.
+ Show Spoiler +26-3-1+0=23 coincidence? i think not!

Maybe they used an old postal stamp? :D

THERE IS NO 26TH MONTH FHBDEWJBHFLBHJFLHABGHBF But this has happened in the US too. Happens more often than people think it does, probably.

lol Torenhire ^^ man I dunno what I'd do if I found a letter that old. Guess I'd be curious to read what was in it but unless it was something really really important I don't think I'd be too upset.

Note to self: never make a "funny" date order remark again, it makes things go downhill really fast (with some awesome exceptions, of course)
Anyway, the letter is just my "frequent flyer" card from Iberia that I have been vigorously trying to get over the last two years. Turns out they have send it right away the first time (even though they application said that they will NOT make it because of an error in my input, graggghh!!§). Since then, I have flown something like 200.000 km with Oneworld so I could have already have quite a nice account to redeem. So, nothing spooky in there

Now you must trace the source and discover the mail has been sent by man dead long-ago. For prize of $500 you must solve the mystery... before the disturbed criminal trigger another tradegy.

All joking aside, the Spanish postal system is notoriously bad

when the card didn't come, why didnt you just ask for them to send a new one immediately? especially if you were planning some serious travel.

I don't get how you can get a letter from the 26th month of the year, there are only 12 months in a year.
Looks like a government conspiracy, you better burn the letter just in case.

I don't think you have a very good idea of how a Spanish company works
I spoke with about a dozen of Iberia employees from many different branches of the company during the past two years, I wrote inquiries, I called hotlines, because I didn't have either.
