You don't seem to be familiar with the tradition around here, people often create lengthy and elaborate posts to celebrate such milestones (usually with very personal undertones), often with great effort, which at the same time add value and provide entertainment to the whole community (and this blog is a play on people's such expectations). It's a great tradition, and milestone posts are always amongst my favourite reads. I won't plug my own ones this time, but here are some random articles that TL members created for their milestone posts: 1000, 2000, 5000, 6000, 10000...

Sure, the post-count is often inversely proportional to the quality of those posts, but it's not a bad thing to do something nice for the community in celebration - it's like bringing a cake to work on your birthday. Technically, you could say that being born on a certain day is no kind of merit, and should not be celebrated, but your colleagues surely enjoy the cake, and you get some attention and cheers in return at that milestone age. Noone gets hurt, and in fact everyone is happier than if the day went by without cake and celebration.
