Thinking of moving to Chicago

Been considering moving to the windy city for a good while now. Just wondering if my fellow TLers could tell me the most affordable places to live. I'm not looking for anything fancy, and with luck I should have have work A month or so after I get there. Im in a Union so the job process shouldn't be too bad unless I am grossly misinformed about the state of work up there. Anyways this is kind of scatterbrained, so I'll repeat and just ask what sections of the city are most affordable without being too ghetto. Thank you for your time!

I am a Journeyman Laborer. Done mostly Env. Remediation and concrete work. I got certifications out of the wazoo though. Been in discussion with my BA what local would be my best bet/fit up there if I do make the plunge.

I don't what your budget is, but studios can run anywhere from $700 and up. If you don't care about money, then a few neighborhoods, you should look into Andersonville, Ravenswood, Roscoe Village, Lakeview. If you like a bit of Latin, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Bucktown. If you want upscale, then Loop, Lincoln Park, River North, Gold Coast, Old Town are for you. Don't consider Streeterville unless you like tourist areas. If you're considering southside, Pilsen and Bridgeport are nice. Pilsen is also predominantly Latin, but I like it.

Will look into those area's thanks! I have also been scouring Craigslist and apartment finder, but nobody ever talks about the area ya know its all "Nice place to stay" or "quiet area". Thanks again for the leads!

Generally, Chicago is very quiet at night, unless you live in an area with lots of crime, or like Wrigleyville in the summer where 40 year old men are reliving their college days. If they say "nice place to stay" or "quiet area" it most likely is. Good luck choosing your apartment. Chicago is beautiful in the summer, so are the girls. It's a good time to visit Chicago. Hope you enjoy it.
