The finals yesterday were good. We saw nothing too special, but not the old one-sided finals either. I see a trend here. But it's more than data crunching, it's a feeling: The GSL is on the right track. It took some time, but now we have good play and – possibly even more important – story lines.
DRG was on the verge to officially enter the kong line, but he grabbed the trophy instead. Marineking still has no GSL won, but whipped DongRaeGu at the MLG. DRG's main rival though is probably MMA. Now they are even on GSL titles, which should both motivate players to surpass the other one. Their team league and their Blizzard Cup history is an interesting story.
Genius story is interesting, too, as he was considered the possibly best protoss before MC's reign began, but Genius then came back as a GSL finalist. DRG' story is somehow the opposite: From a ladder player to a nobody in GSTL to a team ace, to the winner of some side tournaments and finally to a GSL champion.
Since the players are now backed up by history, we viewers are eager to know what will happen to them. GomTV had some difficulties to broadcast the match during game 1, but overall delivered a finals with good production value.
Even though my zerg hero finally has his title, I am not too excited. It just all feels right. It feels that it works.

The finals last night were still pretty damn amazing, The game on Crossfire had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Genius' blink build on Cloud kingdom was the highest level mind game I've ever seen, It was extremely fun watching those players play.

Mvp is just gonna come back and win the next 5 GSLs

I think the format change has played a HUGE roll in that, it's alot more difficult to stay in code S, there for people have to prove themselves, and you don't get some schmuk like InCa getting into the finals to provide for probably the worst GSL finals in history.

The finals were rather medicore for my taste, both players made way to many mistakes for players of that caliber. Genius played well in game 1, but his double stargates, and the way he played last game out really anoyed m

I thought MMA had two and DRG only has one GSL title...

Meh, the finals were average at best. Not exactly what you would call top-level play, despite the players' skills.

DRG has 1. MMA has 1 and the blizzard cup. MVP has 3.

Mvp has the world championship gsl as his 3rd so nestea is the only one to win three proper seasons

Whipped is kind of a strong word. Considering all his wins were due to bunkerrush and c-c-combo breaker early third instead of bunker rush....
You're also discrediting DRG for "whipping" MKP in the GSL and AOL and FXOInvitational 5

AOL was from Germany though so the ping was really bad, iirc it was held on Korea server...

GSL has done a lot of things right. Longer seasons, constantly improving their Finals Setup and small stuff like (fantastic) map intros.
