I found it pretty difficult and to be honest I hated it. I hated having no free time, I hated all the negativity (constant negativity there - both because your wingmen are stressed and because it's the job of the instructors to fuck with people's heads and so they are constantly screaming/acting like assholes). I really had no problem handling it I just didn't like it. But I guess not many people would.

What was easy for me at BMT was the physical stuff, and handling stress. That was easy for me. What was difficult was the lack of free time to do anything, and that you were constantly hurried (I tend to make mistakes on details when im pressured to work too quickly).

Anyways it's over and now I am at my tech school - Keesler AFB in Mississippi. I lost my security clearance for cryptolinguist so I don't get to do that. I guess the amount of weed I had told them I smoked which was previously ok was no longer ok. Some other guys got screwed that way too. I am not too upset about it to be honest, the school for linguist sounded like hell.

Keesler AFB is pretty nice, and it's nice actually having some freedom. However the internet here is extremely slow and that sucks my ballz.

ok im tired of writing now

be happy you got kicked from cryptolinguistics; sitting in a basement all day long in a room by yourself reading random fucking news articles and anything else they give you is actually as horribly boring as it actually sounds. Did you enjoy going camping at the end of basic?

^_^ nice job getting out though, now you can sit in school and sit. and sit. and stuff. And make friends! Starcraft friends! I dont know.

Just out of interest which branch was it? I'm considering joining the Air Force when i graduate from University, i am a pretty in shape person but how grueling was the physical training part?

Air Force, yes.

I was already good at push ups and situps so that was easy. The run is boring and not fun but not very hard either. If you have a meaner TI he will push you harder physically than any of the actual PT you have to do. You do not have to be in good shape when you come in as long as you actually work hard during PT. If you end up having to do extra pushups/situps outside of PT then go ahead and do that, some guys had to - not really a big deal.

The focus of air force BMT is on being pressured and attention to detail/following orders under said pressure. wheras marine bmt is largely physical air force bmt is largely mental. it is different than bmt for the other branches.

angel asks about beast week(camping). I hated beast week. While we did get away from our MTIs, beast week was boring during the day. extremely repetitive, and physically annoying (holding training weapon at low ready ALL the time - having to wear mopp gear and change into mopp gear so often - and wearing mopp lvl 4 for like 1.5h at a time all crammed into the hardened shelter was very unfun.

.

And how the fuck do you know this? Have you done Marine basic? No. Stop generalizing about other branches, and don't begin to start about other jobs in your branch based off hearsay or some fictionalized image of how things are in your head. Just because you're a Day 1 airman fresh out of basic doesn't mean you have to act like one. What even prompted you to say this?

With that said, congrats.

wow you're angry

I've talked to marines who just got out of basic, and I have talked to my instructors who told me about marine/army basic and how it compares to air force basic. so that's what i am basing it on...

If you don't already, you'll realize soon enough that your instructors are indeed mortal, as are all NCO's. Follow orders, but know that your superiors can be and are sometimes wrong.

Also know that new people in the military have a tendency to over-exaggerate. I wouldn't take anything anybody still stuck in or fresh out of initial-entry training says to be completely true. Don't be like these clowns that try and talk truth based off of solely speculation or what 'his/her friend said'

okay well is the generalization that marine bmt is more physical than air force bmt but air force bmt focuses more on non-physical stuff not correct?

im not trying to say that marine or army bmt isn't mental because everything in bmt is mental but hopefully you understand what im getting at

Oh that's cool maybe I saw you marching to the trainee shoppette/BX or something.

I'm a SSgt (E-5) at Lackland AFB. I'm usually chilling in the Shoppette or military clothing sales during my lunch break watching you guys march. I always get a bright smile on my face seeing the "rainbows" marching.

Congratulations on getting through Basic Training though. It's all downhill from there! Trust me man. I went to Keesler as well. I was in the 336 "Red Wolf" squadron. I don't know what the hell they call it nowadays, but it was good times. Don't get married to a tech school girl (It happens) just follow your heart and not your dick. I'm being serious... some people go over there and fall in love and get in trouble. Have a good time, bond with your fellow classmates, your roommate, and the other students at Keesler and you will have a GREAT TIME. Honestly I thought Mississippi was boring as hell, but I'm a city type of guy. Once you finish Tech school you will go to your first duty station and your head will explode. SSgts, TSgts, and etc will be treating you like a human being unlike the Training Instructor that was yelling in your ear every day and night. Trust me its the training instructors job to try and "break you". They don't want people that can't handle being yelled at or in "stressful" environments in the US Air Force. I have talked to numerous Training Instructors as a Sergeant in the Air Force and they all told me that the only time you will get yelled at in is Basic. Basic Training it's all a game, but when you are actually IN the military... (meaning you are finish with all training basic/tech school) they have to treat you with the same amount of respect that they would want to be treated because we are all Airmen.

OMG I miss basic training. The Training Instructors are funny as shit. My nickname was Mr. Smile because I smiled a lot and laughed at basic, but it was hard not to when the TIs were got damn funny. They intentionally tried to make you crack in laughter.

PS: Hey Travis give us an update when you find out where your first duty station will be. I'm curious! Also what job did you get? I notice you said you lost your security clearance so it's probably not Cyber Systems or something of that sort right? I have a Top Secret Security clearance. I never smoked weed (true story), but I have smelled it once long time ago when a couple of buddy of mines were doing it in a van. ANYWAYS, to be honest with you I wouldn't have mentioned that you tried weed. I know people in the past that have done drugs prior to military service, but still have top secret clearances. You just obviously can't be doing it while in the military.

So yeah... what's your job going to be? Also let me know what base you will be going to. Maybe I can give you some information about the base.

Right before basic ended they had me come in and pick 10 jobs from a list of jobs I could get. Basically I was just praying I didn't get security forces or something of that nature. Anyways I got my #5 pick, Financial Comptroller. Sounded like a desk job and honestly something I wouldn't mind doing so I don't mind getting that. For those that don't understand, it's something like an accountant.
