So I have pretty small hands, right? Reaching Control Group 0 and hitting "A" or whatever is hard. So here's what I do to keep my hotkeys all in order. I've used this sort of layout for about a year now and it works great for me.

Basically, the idea is to move the control groups to where I can reach ALL of them, which is to say, 123QWERTYH.
If I were protoss I'd probably put warpgate on ~. If I were zerg I would put Backspace there. As terran I don't give a dick lolololol
I use 1, 2, and 3 for non-constant-selection macro groups (such as Engi Bays, Ghost Academies, Tech Labs, Fusion Cores, Armories, etc),
I use Q and W as primary macro groups (CCs, Rax/Fact/Ports).
I use E for Main Army, and RTYH for drops, flanks, firefighting forces, and subgroups of casters, tanks, etc within the main army.
F is attack since I figure the most important button should be used by the index finger rather than the pinky. S is stop, D is hold, and A is patrol since reaching over to P for Patrol is retarded.
I made some other major changes like bringing Liftoff/Land (L? Really?) and make bunker (U? Are you serious?) over to the "semigrid" area for all my hotkeys. All command hotkeys fall under ASDFG ZXCVB. I basically just take Grid and compress it into there and make everything make sense.
This way with my small hands I can reach every control group quickly, my quickest fingers are all using the most important commands, and I can crush nerds with impunity.
EDIT: It's not how big your hands are, it's how you use them heh

Huh. I just switched my hotkeys to something similar for the same reason, except I go 1-4 and q-r and use two mouse buttons for the last two.

Hmmm, I kind of like this setup. When I get some time to start playing seriously again I need to really creat a custom hotkey setup, and I like some of the things you've got here. I have probably just slightly larger than average hands, but I always feel akward when trying to get to control group 6 or 7. I usually end up being lazy and not using them at all.

A really simple solution if you already use Grid is to make your Control Groups into
~123456

If you're having trouble reaching 7890 this will help. You may need to move your Backspace to Capslock or something though instead of the usual ~. Also this requires larger hands than my setup.

have u found that this setup 'causes u to misclick more often???
if not, how long did it take you to get used to this setup?

This setup does not affect my clicking accuracy. This setup causes fewer mistypes since I don't have to move my hands around as much, IE reaching over to P for Patrol.
It took me about a week to get used to this setup.

seems very clever, though i basicly could never learn any other hotkey set up is what i told myself :D
But i noticed you don't have a button for research nuclear missile. Is it the same as with the ghost?
How do you get by?

I do, it's Z. For any building's hotkeys, just use a grid of ASDFGZXCVB for it.

Eh. Anyways. I don't think I've ever re-mapped hotkeys for an RTS. SCBW I always went 9p0p for making probes from my nexus, etc. I don't have particularly long fingers / large hands, but I found them to be okay.
On the other hand, when playing MMO's and other similar action/RPG (like D2), I always re-mapped everything to my tastes. Weird eh, one would expect RTS situations to be more competitive... who knows.

hand size isnt a big a deal as people seem to think. where you position ur hand has a much greater effect. try putting ur wrist near the B, centering your hand. works magic for me.
