running a /commercial every 5 minutes tends to make you want to turn on adblock

or just stop viewing the stream altogether

I use Noscript, but like 80% of the time I see ads so I don't consider it to be too bad.

People need to stop harking on the OP. Esports isn't some multibillion dollar industry and the fact that adblock can negate 30-40% of revenue for streamers is a big deal when they don't get by on much.

You actually make a good point... sort of. While I do agree that DVR makes it so you can skip commercials, tv shows have gotten to a point that it doesn't matter if people watch commercials or not. Making these allusions to TV don't really work because you're talking about an established industry that has been around for AT LEAST 20+ years. Streaming has only really been popular in the past couple of years.

That's why I think it's silly that people come up with comparisions of TV and Streaming - One has been around for 20 years so saying that not watching commercials on TV is like not watching commercials on a stream are completely different.

But that's an issue with the streamers, not the ads themselves. I think it's important to realize the difference because if it was automatic, then I think your point would be more relevant. But at the moment (from what I've seen anyway) it all depends on the streamer. So blaming the ads, and getting AdBlock is only avoiding the problem - not addressing or fixing it.

The elephant tears! Stop them! They make me cry too!

I just hate justin.tv commercials because apparently my region only has ONE ad. It's a cogeco internet ad (which I already fucking have, haha) so it see it over and over. And over. And over. If they run multiple commercials I see it multiple times.

So please, Twitch, get more sponsors from my region. Because I already bought the thing that you're advertising at me. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MEEE

I never really understood why people even made such hissy fit over ads. They're put on between and queuing up matches. You mean to tell me you don't want to waste 10-30 seconds of ads because you want to stare at a screen while matchmaker finds a game for the streamer you are watching?

It's so fucking stupid. Lol at first world problems, seriously.

I don't want to hear the same loud silly dialog three times in a row while I browse and do other things while the matchmaker is finding a game. I think you'd have to be a sucker to just be fine with it.

I would only be a sucker if I didn't realize the real world situation at hand. It's not like I'm sitting there idly supporting something I don't care for. I'm support the stream that I'm watching, that's why I let the ad play the "same loud silly dialog three times in a row." Because it doesn't mean anything. I know the purpose of the ad is purely to support whoever's stream I'm watching. I'm not just being suckered into wasting my previous ear seconds for something that I don't really care about.

Ads are a major, and sometimes ONLY source of income for many online-derived businesses. I believe the next paradigm shift for earning money online is by selling physical goods and thus an online store for the site. You can't tell people to not block their ads because the computer-savvy ones will, regardless.

Consider that making me watch the same ad 3 times in a row is not only disrespectful to me, but it will make me actively AVOID the product that's being advertised. Do you really think Own3d.tv DESERVES the money they get from showing me the same ad over and over again? There are diminishing returns at work here.

Showing me the same ****ing thing sometimes hundreds of times in bursts of 3 back-to-back ads is not what the advertiser intended. I'm sure Finish Quantum did not intend to quite literally spam me, and I'm pretty sure any marketing firms realize that it's not the optimal way to spend their money. I would consider that showing me the same ad sometimes around 10 times an hour, own3d.tv is "stealing" money from the advertisers with their dishonest practice.

It can be argued that it's not their fault because maybe they just don't pay attention to zones which only have one ad, I don't know. What I can tell you though is if I put an ad of my company in own3d.tv's hands and I was made aware that some people got my ad 3 times in a row and I have to PAY to expose a person to a loop of ONE ad, I wouldn't be too happy with that partnership.

As long as Own3d.tv decides to disrespect the advertisers and myself, I'll protest quietly. And if a streamer clicks the "show 3 ads" button anyway, I'm probably not going to be a fan for very long.

I'm not telling people not to - I'm saying that if you're complaining about PPV and you're one of those people who uses AdBlock on streams, then you either keep AdBlock on and don't complain, or you turn AdBlock off then start complaining. You can't have both. The two sentiments contradict each other.

You're basically saying that an Ad being played 3 times in a row is disrespectful to you... which I can't change, but this sentiment IN MY OPINION is silly - I mean, I understand that it's annoying, but it's literally 30 seconds of your life. Owned.TV isn't the only one earning money from these ads, the person streaming also earns money.

Ads generally last 30 seconds, when they play 3 times in a row that's roughly 90 seconds. Ownedtv earns** money maybe for the first ad because it exposes me to the product, then it steals money from the advertiser (IMO) for the next 2 ads which do NOT expose me nor do they remind me of it. Then, the person streaming gets half the money, 2/3 of which is acquired by shoddy business practices.

Do what you want, not because a celebrity does something.
OT: i'll addblock every site/streamer and give money to those who provide really valuable content and an opportunity to do a donation. Simply it seems to require to much brain power for a lot of people to provide an alternative instead of the mainstream model based on adds.
Zest fanboy.
