I'm full-time programmer and I just can't work without a good background music. But if you listen to music 8 hours+ a day eventually you'll run out of bands or artists that you like. I try to aid it using radio straming services, and recently I stumbled up a this gem( at least in Brazil): Jeff Buckley's album Grace.

http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Grace/120837

This album is just phenomenal, his voice is really good and the songs carry a good mix between rock and jazz, synthesizing a unique style. Overall, a easy to enjoy album and a must have on anyone's music shelf.

Anyone else got any other Artists/albums to recommend?

I went through a Jeff Buckeye phase. My favourite, a cover of Nusrat Ali Khan's (Pakistani musician) 'Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai':

According to Buckley, Nusrat was his 'Elvis'.

Edit - music really starts around 3:40.

Pretty much anything at the top of the charts at jamendo is great. Personally I like Luk Hash, Zero-project, Roger Subriana Mata, and alot more.

But since it's creative commons you can download albums for free, and most of it is really good. Also, it's pretty much guaranteed to be something you haven't heard before.

Pretty much 100% of the music I listen to. (excluding classical, which is not really for my entertainment anyway)

Destroyer - Kaputt. GREAT. Check out some of his older stuff too (if you haven't done so already).

Oh, and just came across this Tom Waits 'pic':

I recommend Steven Wilson's latest solo album, Grace for Drowning.

Everything from Max Richter works very well as background music. I`m pretty much writing my whole doctoral thesis while listening to his stuff.

This is actually hilarious.

After reading your OP, I came on here to suggest you go to Grooveshark and search 'Dario Wunsch'. When I'm playing SC2 or studying, I just put his name in the searchbar and click whatever playlist he listened to most recently.

Admittedly, I'm a huge fanboy. But the man has some good taste in music.
