I haven't listened to radio music in many years. I assume you're driving so just burn some CDs or if you have the gadgets for it, hook up your mp3 player or phone to your car stereo. Or perhaps the problem is that you're reliant upon other people to tell you what music to like. If you want truly good music, you gotta put in the effort to find it.

He wrote that he is riding the train Me personally I just get bored of listening to the same stuff... burning cd's or such things, too much effort, when I can listen to some radio station and discover new music I like that way. Why I use pandora, just write in a song I like, and it starts playing similar stuff.

Heh, I think you read over the part that I'm going by train xD... Sadly I cannot do this ... It's not that I don't know what music to like, I have plenty of bands, songs etc it's just that I don't want to download them(it's Germany after all) and rather listen to streams on grooveshark etc since this is legal in Germany. So I pretty much have to rely on radio when I'm going to work/back home. Buying that many songs is too expensive. I have a few songs on my phone, though(Legally). But they get boring pretty fast if you listen to them for a few weeks. @aebriol: Yea, especially since I found this english station I heard a couple new songs that I'd never have found on my own. So this is a big plus, too!

Many of the radio stations where I am from are the same although we have a few really good public radio stations that more than make up for it. Try to find some local public or volunteer run stations usually they play interesting stuff. Oh yeah in Australia we also have a station that plays K-Pop and even a K-Pop music video TV show that is played on weekends. I am pretty sure they have an online stream here http://www.sbs.com.au/chinese/program/popasia/?siteLanguage=en_AU and an IPhone app http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/sbs-popasia/id449563028?mt=8#

It's even easier to deal with when you have an MP3 player to supplement the Satellite Radio. IF you're looking for excellent music though you have to avoid public FM radio unless you're one of the lucky freaks that get stations like X89 and the like. San Antonio for instance is beyond awful.

If you don't like classical music, then BBC 6 music can be pretty good too.

So this is a big plus, too! Sounds like you just need a good mp3 player + a nice pair of headphones, if you can manage it (NOT EARBUDS, earbuds are just trash). Sorry for my god awful reading comprehension. Do you have a decent internet connection? Just go online, find some groups that are interesting and download all their albums. Listen through them, and keep the ones you really like. Rinse and repeat. You'll soon end up with a monumental collection of really good stuff. Once you have enough good music it doesn't matter if its new or not. While new stuff is nice, having a large collection of top notch stuff is much better than being fed a stream of mediocre crap. Oh also: Books on tape. Sounds boring but trust me once you start doing it you'll never stop.

Last.fm, Pandora, Spotify, or something along those lines should make your music search more interesting and enjoyable.

grooveshark.com just put every song you like(you will probably find 95% of the songs on grooveshark) in one playlist and put shuffle on trust me its worth the time and you dont have to deal with all the radio nonsense

You're right the independent stations are better usually. CIUT 89.5 is University of Toronto radio, and they have some great indie playlists, as well as cutely happy sounding girl DJs . Recently I found a nice radio station that plays over iTunes...its called "Space Station Soma" from SomaFM. Its relaxing, spacey, electronic music. I'm so glad I stopped listening to radio. If I hadn't I might have become severely depressed by now
