It is funny how life works.
One year ago, I finially created my own TL account. As with most people, I am generally a lurker, and so I didn't see any reason why to create an account. I cannot actually remember what my first post was, or why I made it, but I do know that it felt great. I used to have a fear of what people will think whenever I posted, but before long, I realized nobody cares what you you say unless 1.) you are known, 2.) you have over 1k posts (even then it doesnt help to much) or (most importnantly) 3.) you say something so radical/stupid people have to tell you how they feel. That being said, I don't mind that so much. People will say stupid things more so online than anywhere else, but in the end, it is just people being people.
For me though, TL has just been one of the only constants in my life. Girls and friends seem to come and go, members of families are added and taken away, life in general changes. With all that though, I have come to TL everyday that I have had internet. Everyday, I can learn about something new. TL is not only the home of starcraft for me, it is where I learn about world news as well. If it isnt on TL, it probably doesn't matter that much on a global scale.
I had thought about doing something for my 1 year with TL, but my life hasn't allowed me to think more than a few hours into the future for the past few weeks. I am living in China, just starting going to school, just moved into an apartment, have an ex-gf who claims she might be pregnant but won't take a test without me there (she is chinese, and I am willing to go, but our schedules have been busy/conflicting and she lives nearly 2 hours from my apartment,) as well as just daiy life keeping me busy. That being said, yesterday was my TL birthday. I was sick and couldn't make the trip to go somewhere to get internet, so today when I got on and saw my report button, I was simultaniously happy and sad.
So, here I am, writing a day late about how much I love TL. It is because of TL that I was able to go to my first SC2 LAN, which was in Missouri, where i got to meet CatsPajamas, DOA, Antimage, and Destiny, who ended up going to iHop with myself and a bunch of other nerds. It has been one of the cooliest things to happen in my time with TL. It is also nice to know that, in general the people of TL are quite friendly, at least the veterans are. I had a crazy dream about Jinro a little bit ago, and decided to tell him, to my surprise, he responded. It probably didn't mean much to him, but knowing that he responded to me just ade me feel all the more welcome here.
All in all, no matter what happens in my life, I have TL. On that note, this is about TeamLiquid, not Starcraft. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Starcraft, but I have been involved with other games and other communities. TeamLiquid is an amazing place to say the least. There are days when I don't want to play Starcraft, but there has yet to be a day when I don't want to get on TL. Thanks for reading, if you have any cool stories about TL, I would love to hear them.

Is pretty true for a lot of people <3 tl!

I feel the same way. Came for the Starcraft (Brood War; SC2 didn't come out yet), and stayed for the community.

Assuming I did it correctly, I believe this is your first post.
-See if you can get 1 ghost to over 50 kills (no nuking) -Make only thors after 10min -FE into your opponents nat then make it a PF -Tell your opponent everytime you expand or are about to attack (see if he believes you or not) -scan your opponent then scout with mules dropped there
I think a lot of these things would be fun to do

I disagree with this. Granted there are people on TL who clearly don't read past the first 3 replies on a post before making their own. I think that is mostly confined to SC2 general though, where long threads make this endemic. But if you actually have an interesting opinion or point of view that you share in a coherent and intelligent manor, many people will care. Keep in mind that just because someone doesn't quote you or reply directly to you doesn't mean they didn't read your post or care about your opinion.
After all, you don't meet any of the criteria you listed out, and here I am replying to you. So myth debunked.
Oh, and happy post reporting!

Yo dude where in China you at?

Oh wow I joined TL a day after you! Didn't even notice the report button 'til you mentioned it, and only then realised I must have hit 1 year too!

Since sc2 started up the whole post count mattering thing went completely down the toilet. Though to be fair I usually only skim posts unless i recognize the poster.
I can't even remember what it was like when I'd first been here for a year

TheToast, how can I argue with such a good sounding name? While I do see your point, and you are right that is is generally located in SC2 general (and LR threads,) I actually meant that that as more of a liberating thing to an extent. I should not have said "nobody cares" but in general, you don't have to worry to much about what you say unless it falls into that criteria (starting to wonder why I even but #2 in there as I write this) because you won't be scrutinized or judged by what you say. Much of that is due to how big TL is (and even more so that the growth has been more explosive than linear) so coming from a cs1.6 clan of hand full of people I knew pretty damn well where if you called something wrong, you would hear about it at the next practice (not flamming as much as just being like "look who was wrong again" type thing), it is kinda cool. I really do miss that at the same time though.
