When you write from 1st person perspective I guess people will always feel empathy with the writer, and i guess a lot of people reading this will think his mindset was good, and alot of people probably will think that i am dick for "critizing" a player sharing his throughts, but really this guys mindset is pretty bad. So he cant win with marien/tank --> he doesn't want to do that build and wants to rely on other builds. This is just a bad midnset (unless you have no plan to become good long-termish). I guess a lot of people will say that the time was different back then and that all terrans did gimmick stuff. This isn't true, at january terrans were learnign to play solid. Back at summer 2010 (and beta), yeh all terrans did stupid shit, like opening cloack banshee vs toss every game and hoping their builds were unsafe and that they could not multitask, or they would take late expansions vs zerg and allin every other game. But in january 2011 most terran players were trying to learn a solid approach, yet carn did stuff that was so allinsh / harassbased --> relying on opponents mistakes. I think what carn wanted to try and do, was do get really good at executing his weird gimmicky builds, and hence getting an advantage over opponents who were not used to deal with them. This can obv. be a fine strategy, as long as you admit that this is your gameplan, and realize that you are relying on opponents mistakes. I think you are incorrect. Sure if you don't use and practice marine tank you won't improve at playing marine tank but you can get a better player playing other styles too just because it isn't standard doesn't mean that it is more gimmicky or a worse style in general. It's not like his mindset was going cloak every game and if it doesn't work he just ggs out or pulls all scvs and a moves. He had refined game plans even though they weren't aiming at playing a 30 minute macro game. If you go for a 1 rax expand you are also hoping your opponent makes some kind of mistake at some point in the game because otherwise you won't win so trying to force a mistake early is a fine strategy and often times better than playing completely standard.

Not everyone is able to remember and capture their experiences over such a long stretch of time. This is really quite a treat.
