So I just heard a somewhat loud noise ouside of a car. I decided to check to see what it was, I figured it was probably someone stopping by to visit. I look outside and some people are stopped outside my driveway and they drive off. I figured they might have it a deer or something (or maybe the neighbors dog) and drove off so they didn't have to deal with it. I went outside to see if there was a dead animal in the road, and I found...
My goddamn mailbox was gone. Who the fuck steals someone's mailbox? I've heard of people getting drunk and smashing boxes, but there weren't pieces broke off or anything. and it wasn't nearby in the road. I don't know what to do about this...I mean, should I report it to the police? what if they stole something with personal info on it? I would have to think if you were trying to steal someone's personal info, there has to be a lot more discreet ways that stealing someone's maibox. I'm so confused.
Anyone ever had this happen to them before? What should I do? Should I be worried about anyone trying to break into the house, or was it probably just drunk teenagers?
man if i found out who stole my mail box i'd be breaking necks. i can't imagine how pissed off you are right now. well maybe you can turn this into a positive. get an esports mailbox with sad zealot on the side. or a lurker O_O

lolol. My mail will be so esports. Everyone else will be so jelly.
On the internet, there is not a lot that actually gets me laughing nowadays. Sure, I crack the occasional smile to funny pictures, silly stories and what not. But this premise, the title alone - got me laughing out loud.

I would be careful about getting an awesome mailbox like that, someone might be tempted to steal it.
Edit:

based on nothing, i'd say 5 years. maybe i'll pull a google search apparently, it's only a federal offense if there was mail in it. but since i assume it was in the evening, after you probably had gotten your mail, it is not. suck. i'd love to see mailbox stealing bitches rot not. idk where that came from sry

Uh...a green one? Idk, just some middle of the road one from meijer's; not like it was a really costly one or important to me, but you know, it's just fucking weird when your mailbo is gone, you know?
Man, and I thought I was badass for opening up a shaken soda inside a mailbox and leaving it inside when i was 13 and trick-or-treating (serves the asshole right for giving out soda instead of candy)...
Crazy shit. If I had to guess the cause: gang initiation, quite obviously the only logical explanation + Show Spoiler +
lol
Sorry about your box though Maybe keep a look out for them coming back to another house? Perhaps it's a master plot to take your entire neighborhood off the postal route...for good!
Ugh, I really do feel bad you lost your mailbox, but you've gotta admit it's pretty damn funny.
You know the only solution is to steal someone elses mailbox with the same number, in fact maybe that is the reason they were stealing yours in the first place!
Since it isn't actually a federal offence and we were like 14 when we did it, my friends and I took a random mailbox from a summer cottage during the winter while we were drunk and stuck it in the snow at my friend's house while he was out on vacation.
The mailbox was like anchored into the ground, so it was really hard to get out, but we thought we were hilarious. There was nothing in it, being that it was at a summer house, and it was winter.
There's mailboxes everywhere what the fuck did you do to make them steal yours? was it made of diamonds? edit: also lol thanks for sharing i hope everything turns out well!
I'd feel pretty angry if someone did that to me, I mean why? It's such a random thing to do. Although they'd have a hard time stealing or bashing my letter box, and everyone else in my street since it's in the brick fence and everyone on my street has a brick fence with their mail box encased. I probably wouldn't report it the first time, only because I feel the police won't be able to do anything about it except file a report. If it happens again though definitely report it. I guess it doesn't hurt to report it the first time though.
That reminds me, about 5 years ago my friend who lived next to a park use to have his mail box blown up, his dad went and bought 3 other mail boxes (nice ones) before he got sick of them blowing up. Now it's just a tin box with his number on it and it hasn't been touched since.

No. Dont be silly its actually important. Alot of stolen mail is used in identity fraud. If they know who you are, know your place of address and can collect a few routine letters its easy to do identity fraud.

If you want to steal mail for identity fraud, why take the mailbox?

New Berlin - Police have busted up a high school student theft ring that has been snatching bass-shaped mailboxes from residences.
Ten New Berlin West students who called themselves the "Bass Hunters" were involved in the thefts, and seven of the bass mailboxes have been recovered, Lt. Mike Glider said Monday.
The oversized fish mailboxes began disappearing from the north side of New Berlin in August, Glider said, and a couple of the mailboxes were stolen during the second week of November.
The thieves were netted after a "good, thorough investigation by the school resource officer at New Berlin West," Glider said.
He declined to provide specifics of how the theft ring was broken up or what led authorities to suspect New Berlin West students were involved.
"That's all we can say at this time since we are still in the process of talking to all those involved," Glider said. "We are still determining who the principal players were and who was a party to the crimes."
Glider said those involved will receive municipal summonses in connection with the thefts.
Police said they plan to return the boxes to their owners.
The department also is contacting other police departments in the area to see whether they have had similar thefts in recent months.
I use to go around at night with my friends stealing mailbox's, random lawn ornaments, and then even blocked an intersection with a castle of benches. (like fifteen benches all from random porches)
