So, I guess this is weird, I had originally planned my first blog post here to be something about finding more practice partners, but I guess this subject itself is very worthy of a first post. I want to know who in their right minds talks sh*t in bronze league? Even if they're in the top 20 or something in their division, where the hell do these people get this sort of confidence from? I recently started playing starcraft 2 again, after 5 months of never opening the game because of school, and a terrible first placement match in 1v1's where I got cannon rushed like a mofo, but somehow placed in gold after playing again. (Mostly because the two people I did win against, were really really terrible. Like so bad, that they were easier than the "very easy" a.i.") Anyway, after a terrible time in gold league, I reached out to other people for practice partners on Team Liquid, thank god for you guys. Anyway, as of recently, I've been able to get some wins off of top level bronze players, which really isn't saying much, but it makes me happy. Anyways, main reason why I wanted to talk about this is because in my recent ladder match, I started off with the whole "glhf" and he responds with "prepare yourself for my cck" (he can't spell I guess) "coolstorybro" (nospaces, too busy spamming hotkeys) "oh it will be a story when it penetrates ur throat" (this guy isn't very intelligent) That was the end of that, I was like, okay, he's a protoss, if he's gonna do something, he's going to cannon rush, which I was kind of afraid of because I'm not used to dealing with cheese yet. Turns out, all he did was waste his probe, because by the time he got to my base, I had already walled off, and had marines out to kill the probe. As I went to scout him, I noticed the usual pylon, gateway, and cybernetics core, with only one gas... I'm not sure how protoss builds work, but I'm pretty sure you need atleast two gas by four minutes right? (I also did a late scout, only scouted till after my second supply depot was done) Throughout the match, I lay down harassment to his mineral line with my banshees and kill his eco, but not once does he expand into a two base, or three. (The match was 27 minutes) All he amassed were three Colussus, a few immortals, a few stalkers, and a couple zealots. No sentries, no tech, no nothing. I ended the game on three bases, a maxed army, and still a lot of minerals left. I probably could have ended it earlier, because I maxed my army out at 18, but I like lengthening matches, because it allows me to practice a bit more. In the end, I did clear him out, and without a gg, he leaves. So, what's the point of being cocky if you're still learning to play?

Young kids with low self-esteem like to take out their anger online. It's why it's a pain in the ass to play counterstrike or halo with kids. I just laugh it off. Once they enter puberty they start growing up and stop acting in immature ways.

That guy's just an ass. It happens.

I sent him a chat message, asking what happened, and his only reply was, "you're not that good for gold" -_- no shit, I've only been playing for a week

Learn to laugh at it. The Awesome/Confusing BM thread is great. I love getting BMed. My other favorite (should have saved this and posted it) was getting told that the guy I was playing worked for blizzard and was sure I was using vtfm, and he was going to ban me. (Which I guess is a hack, because he wouldn't tell me what it meant.) The funny thing was that he was a portrait farmer, and when I said that was bannable, he said, "Go ahead and report me. Won't do much when I see my name on my desk on monday."
Great things about this. 1) Implies that Blizzard bans once per week and you get a list of names, which is just horribly wrong. 2) It was monday.
Other favorite that I did save:

Don't sweat it, man. Learn to enjoy it. Don't be BM though, but laugh when others are.

guess the cck was in the other throat

BM is fun to get.. I beat this terran and before he leaves, he is considerate enough to tell me that "he is drunk and if he were sober, he would destroy me so hard that it wouldn't be funny" I just look at BM as you beat the other guy in such a one-sided manner that his only option is to rage at you.
And if I goad a person after he BM's me, is that BM on my part?
|
The best BM I gotten so far was from a guy in bronze who tried to proxy 2rax me. I didn't actually know he was going to do this at all until I noticed a blue dot on the mini-map at the edge of my base. Unfortunately for him, I had learnt how to macro literally the weekend before and was able to defend it easily. I then proceeded to contain him and not let him expo as punishment, He tried to expo to the far base on the edge of Xel Naga. I spotted this again and instantly had marines there, forcing him to retreat. This is when he dropped the f-bomb. He then left the game after I took out his army of 0/0 riens and cloaked banshees.Vs my 200/200 army After the game he messages me with stuff like ''I did ur mom''. I just told him to learn the game and dropped a destiny line on him, blocked and reported him for sexual threats and harrassment. I must say that was one of the most entertaining BM experience I've had so far
We have to be fair though, everyone rages and Bm's at some-point. I do try my very best to be mannered on ladder, and I always say glhf, and even when getting cheesed I try to gg After all, some of the best quotes from this game have been from BM and raging moments.

My favorite people who BM me are when they tell me how lucky I am that they are bad.
"You're lucky I scouted your third so late." "You're lucky I forgot to build overlords" "You're lucky my micro sucks".
It's so fun when I hear that!
|
It's kind of in us to act aggressively, at least do it once in a while. In this society it's unacceptable or illegal to do most of those things (like walk up to some dude and saying what he said), therefore, we don't, but there's nothing stopping BM with the veil of anonymity.

It's so fun when I hear that! this makes me laugh, because this game is built on doing things efficiently and mechanically

Benjamin Franklin once said, "but in the world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes." he forgot BM.

well, that logic excludes anyone who isn't a pro from BM'ing which kinda takes out the fun of it right? I guess the reason is that people are emotionally invested in this game, and if it doesn't play out the way you want it to, it's really easy to get tilted. Don't be bothered by it too much, get a standard response, type it out (block communication at this point if you feel your getting tilted yourself) and hit find match again
Also congrats on not making a Blog to find practice Partners, theres a whole world of Threads for that on this Board (like this one)
One gas protoss usually means either Zealot/Stalker 4gate or 1 gate expand, can't really do much else on 1 gas. This may not apply to all lower league players.
|
lol. A few things I can tell you just to give you something to take out of all this is that if P has 1 gate expanded into more gates ect. they might not have 2 gas yet and collo's / immortals are tech units but other than that gj beating him I hate kids like that =/

...I'm in college, and people STILL had bad manners, in some cases more immature than kids. Forgive and forget, but in the case you can't forgive, just forget :X. The internet is fully ego mostly these days, that or a thrown meme in the face. If I hear one more arrow in the ANYWHERE, God today's just a blisteringly stupid day gah!

Kids. The internet is a good venue to vent some steam. Just let it go it happens

In general, if someone is talking to me on ladder, I assume they're trying to distract me from the cheese they are performing.
I prefer not to speak on ladder, at all, even glhf. It avoids these types of situations.

Customary? Yes. Are you a douchebag if you don't do it? Yes.
As for gg'ing out, I feel that that is something you only do if you feel they deserve it, or you're in a tournament where the vods are being recorded. If they do something totally cheesy that was impossible to stop, even after scouting, then you don't GG. For regular games, you say a normal gg, because all games are good unless they were MHing, cheating, or abusing a broken tactic. If you felt a game was really good, then you say GFG. It's just being polite, and if someone is BM to you, just ignore it or troll them to the ground for giggles.

I hope you read this, because in higher leagues no gas with one gate and core means fast expand. so next time you see that, keep the possibility of a one gate fe in mind
|
I don't think he is cocky but he is just joking around. He probably just wants to see how you will react.

I've run into a bunch of shittalking and BM in bronze also. In BRONZE!
It's kinda funny when a bronzer calls you a 'noob' or says you suck.
We're in bronze dude, we all suck. lol
One game, I said 'glhf' and the response was 'fuck you.' I almost quit right there, not wanting to deal with that kind of stuff, but I didn't want to let him win like that.
I try not to BM or trash talk, but the offensive gg really pisses me off. It usually happens RIGHT as I'm about to say gg and leave, but then, since I'm mad, I'll take all my drones and make extractors at every expansion on the map, and then go afk for a while. It's my silent BM revenge.
I do like to compliment people though. It usually totally catches people off-guard, If someone does some good drops or a nice harass or something, then I like to tell 'em. Compliments usually disarm BM but not always, sometimes the response is like, 'yea, you suck!'
Most of the time, if they're a BM-douche in-game, then they're probably a BM-douche IRL too. oh well.
Actually, the most BM I get is from my roommate, lol, he has like the worst sportsmanship ever. When he's losing, he won't even leave the game, he'll just come into my room talking shit about mutas and lings, haha. Even after he's dead, he'll harass with his only 2 units till I hunt down every last pylon. He placed into silver in season 1 and only plays MAYBE 10 games each season. He hasn't played enough games for the ladder to demote him! So he outranks me, eventhough he uses NO hotkeys or control groups (save for 1A, which hardly counts) and has like 13 apm. Sometimes I let him win so he wont rage at me, but then he gloats about how good he played, I'm not sure which is worse. Yea, dude, your mass-cannon build was great. Haha.

I dont think so, I think "GG" and "gl hf" is like a handshake before and after match like in every other sport (soccer, boxing, golf and so on) and if ur not doing handshake after or before game (even if u lose) u will look like kid or douchebag or both.
edit: i know from my own experience that it is really hard sometimes to gg after shitty school/work day or week when enemy is going for 8minute match but I feel you just should do it (because those habits has been long time in starcraft scene)
EDIT2: OK... one exceptation! I did read one post above me and there was text about offensive gg so if I meet that im gonna make damn sure that the game is being played longest possible and i will not type gg no matter what.
|
There's also the "Fake GG into motherfucking carriers!" bronze mainstay
|
usually on ladder games, i try to talk to them if they are nice, and if they arent i just do an early push and murder them, as they are so distracted from their typing
