I'm sick and tired of seeing a new drama every week on TL. This week it's Naniwa, past months it's been Puma, Milkis or whoever or whatever the next month. It just doesn't matter anymore. I just can't stand it seeing 50 page threads that offer nothing but more controversy and chaos.

I'm going to suggest this: Drama threads should be locked and limited to 10 pages. These pages would have 10 pages of discussion When there is a piece of news featured in Community News for example that has the potential to cause drama, it would be limited to 10 pages. (again this should be determined case by case) When it hits 10 pages, the mod locks the thread but the thread is still kept in Community News so that people can read it and check it for updates, and also if they want, read about what the members have commented on. I think 10 pages should be enough to offer a general perspective on the particular topic while not allowing for extended back and forth drama leeching. I honestly think even 5 would be enough.

There is still some good in discussing the recent news and events, but really, beyond the first 5 or so pages, all the rest is just people arguing with each other, people trolling, others taking the issue way too far and spewing their hatred or their negativity. What's the point? What do threads like this accomplish?

Remember PuMa to EG transfer? Remember how much shitstorm it caused for what, 3 days? The people were saying " Puma will suck in EG house, his skill will detoriate after practicing with Incontrol and Strifecro" well guess what, he's been on fire consistently ever since he won NASL for the first time. The discussion and these types of claims have done nothing but cause more shitstorm, chaos and controversy. It hurt Puma, EG, all the parties involved and the rest. It made nothing good at all for noone.

Some might say that not many people care what some guy types on TL. Perhaps it is true to some extent, but when you think about how many people visit this site and how it's become sort of a Mecca for Starcraft 2 right now, the things discussed in this site, whether in forums by members or by the staff (Elephant in the Room) has consequences way above the intended scale. Your post about how much you hate Naniwa wouldn't matter that much maybe, but when there is 50 pages of people hating, arguing and basically beating a dead horse for over and over and over again...it really accomplishes nothing but being a pain in the back for the subjects of the piece of news.

I'm not saying my particular suggestion is the best to fix this issue, as we're on Internet and it has its own dynamics compared to other forms of media, but still, something must be done. The issue isn't that there shouldn't be a discussion, the issue is that the 'discussion" is nothing but people beating a dead horse for pages and pages while not accomplishing anything.

I think the best way would be to have news articles featured in community newscreated by TL staff, and edited if the need arises to update the OP, but I'm not sure how practical this would be. In any case, I very strongly think something should be done to contain and put out these ridiculous and uncalled for drama volcanoes each week, it is one of the things that really make me feel bad about "eSports" and the "Community".

I'm sorry to answer a long post with such a small one, but...do like me and don't read them ?
I'm not interested in drama either, so I don't read it and I don't get angry at strangers, it's good for my mental health. And besides, you can't prevent people from talking about the hot topics, that's kind of the purpose of a forum.
You say it can have consequences...well yes, that's the part that would make me agree with you. Pages and pages of hate are a terrible thing.

I don't see anything wrong with discussion drama if people are respectful and on topic. You argue that it does nothing, but 99% of things of a forum accomplish nothing. I see respectfully discussing drama no differently than talking about the GOM finals or asking whether mech is the next trend in TvP.

I understand what your saying sorta but remember that this in the end is a forum where people can speak their mind about anything. If people want to argue about these topics for 200pages let them, no one is forced to read them. In the end thats what makes TL such a great place lol!

Drama keeps things interesting now and again. Every sport has its drama and people naturally get consumed by it and love to talk about it. Nothing wrong with that. If you're not a fan don't read those posts but let everyone else enjoy their daily dose of gossip and drama.

You just add the OP that there is an update and the discussion so far should be taken while keeping that in mind. That's it. If people jump into reading the comments without checking the OP for once, it's their problem.

Believe me, I avoid them as much as I can. But when I see people making ridiculous statements about even the slightest topic it just makes me cry out loud "WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD?". It feels to me that the people comment for the sake of jumping on the bandwagon and are in it for just finding something to make a big deal out of anything.

I love drama, it's entertaining which is why I watch starcraft in the first place. Just adds to it.

Drama threads get lame really fast though. It's interesting for the first few pages, but then by page 50 everything that is said has already been argued and recycled 10 times already, and it becomes meaningless to track it any further. People just post to get their 2 cents in without regard for anything else.
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

Healthy drama keeps the community alive. And brings out the true colors in people. As long as it doesn't get too out of hand I usually enjoy drama.

Problem is it can quickly get out of hand or get ridiculously overblown way too fast.

So you think censoring discussions by locking threads is better than drama.
Why not just ignore the drama threads if they bother you? They serve a purpose, if only for people to blow off steam, but they also have an entertainment value. And they don't hurt the players either, just look at Idra's streamviews....

I find you pretty dramatic yourself btw

I'm sick and tired of seeing a new drama every week on TL

I very strongly think something should be done

it just makes me cry out loud "WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD?

People love drama. Hell I do too. I'm sorry it's just entertaining to watch a bunch of people go at it on an internet forum.

The term discussion doesn't apply to the vast majority of posts in real drama threads the op is talking about. They are mostly one liners consisting of abuse, denouncements, random unfounded conclusions and general shit stirring. Discussion implies that people care or are at least taking into account what others have said and responding.

Then you have to trust our veterans and moderators to report and punish bad posts. I don't think the argument that drama threads leading to bad replies means we should ban discussion on drama is a good one. I think it means after a few big drama threads, the moderation should be to guide people towards respectful discussion and away from emotional or useles replies.

Again, I am not in favour of banning drama threads. All I'm saying is to keep them limited to a certain number of pages which would give enough of a perspective about the issue to the viewer. Because after a while the threads get out of hand as he said.

I have the feeling that most people like drama. They also read tabloid journalism because they like drama. Yep Nanis strategy was a little weird but I'm not gonna go bitch over it on and argue what a bad person he is.

just dont read the "drama threads" then if you dont like it, why limit them to 10 pages?

Setting a limit is pointless. When people have thoughts or opinions to share they should share them wether it's the 1st reply or the 1000th.

If pages of nonsense bother you just don't read.

There is something to consider, it's the fact that the scene is international, as well as the TL forum. Stuff happen 24/7. Today I woke up and I saw a 40 page thread on Naniwa/Nestea. 40 pages and I didn't even know why until I read it. Call me selfish but I like to give my opinion on some topics, and limiting / locking threads would be unfortunate for people like me who are oftentimes late to the party.

There shouldn't be a limit but TL should have a Zero Tolerance policy that can be applied to certain thread. So if anyone posts anything even slightly off topic or offensive should result in an instant ban. But the main goal is to get these thread to die asap so the best thing would be to just manually move them down from the top 5 or 6.
