Hello lovely's, So obviously this has nothing to do with Starcraft, but I honestly know nothing about the insides of computers..so what better place to ask about it then here with all the lovely people at TL.
So here’s my little ramble, for Christmas this year I was stumped on what to get my lil bf, so I creeped his facebook to see if I could get any ideas. And sure enough he has pictures of the insides of his computer and I was like sweet! Ideas!! And what was even more awesome was that I found a list of all the things as well. So I journeyed to our nearby Memory Express and gave one of the guys the list and said I wanted to maybe upgrade his video card..and I basically took his word that what I purchased was pretty good for what I wanted to spend. This is what my bf has currently Nvidia's GeForce GTS 250 and this is what I purchased:

Good idea for a Christmas present? Yay or Nay? I tried to be super thoughtful, he also needs a new hoodie, so this and new hoodie? Good enough or is it a tacky gift? I also hope the bf does not read my blogs on TL..lol he doesn't have time for my other blog page so let's hope he has no idea I'm also blogging on TL. Haha.
Thanks lovley's Love, ohsotedious

Hopefully he doesn't forget to buy you a gift.
|
yeah that'll definitely do
|
lol graphics card or hoodie. HMM yes that's fine lol
|
He'll be super happy with that
and whoo Memory Express
|
Graphics card and a hoodie...that'll do just fine!

get him a membership to a pornsite kakakaka

Well, that's a pretty big present . I'm sure he'll be really, really happy as a 560ti is a massive step up from a GTS 250.
Not to make you worry for nothing as his computer may be just fine, but some power supplies can't handle a 560ti. Maybe before buying the hoodie make sure his power supply is at least 500W. I don't know if you can be subtle about it!
Note: girls are harder to shop for, don't be ridiculous!

Jealous, I want a new gfx card
Time to start dropping hints to my gf in hopes she's this awesome.
|
|
wtf all my gf got me was a ps3, you should date me instead you have much better taste..
|

/foreveralone
but yes. that'll do! do you need my shipping address?
|
My wife always tells me she does not know what to buy me...every time she says that I tell her that I have an Amazon wish list with over 12 pages of stuff...it cracks me up. Every gift giving occasion this comes up. =)
|
That present Sucks! with a capital "S"
+ Show Spoiler +jk, I'm actually jealous of your man for having a girlfriend that is this thoughtful and awesome, as well as for the fact that this graphics card is sick. If he doesn't like it, feel free to dump him and date me
|
mmm, memory express <3
that is. a damn good present :D
|
wish my gf would buy me that... hoodie here i come...
|
I'm starting to think this is a brag blog lol. I mean, how could he not nergasm over a new top of the line graphics card?

You are almost correct. The best thing a girl can buy her boy is some really sexy clothing for herself. Or even better, just burn her clothes and live at home naked

Can't wait till it fries his mobo or PSU gives up MERRY CHRISTMAS!

He'll totally crap himself. Awesome gift. Well done.
|
How does one shop for boys anyways?
|
On the contrary it should be easier because guys are usually more direct. Just ask.
|
ur bf is so lucky to have u..

What kinds of gifts has he gotten you in the past? If you are getting him a graphics card and a hoodie, and he ends up getting you a $20 gift, he'll end up feeling like shit, despite the awesome gift.

Guys are easier, as along as we receive the gift we hoped for. TOTAL SATISFACTION! Albeit being materialistic or just some intimacy...

If you don't know what to get a guy, buy him a nice tie. Any guy who doesn't appreciate it is not worth dating.

The best thing my gf can get me is a new gf, or at least a few free nights with one of her friends. Screw a graphics card. I deal with my own computer.

There are two kinds of guys I've been friends/in relationships with: those who are big on material things, and those who are not. Obviously the latter is harder to shop for--but on the plus side finding a good gift is a lot sweeter. The thing about non-materialistic guys is that they tend to have a lot of unfulfilled vague, half-desires for luxury goods, that can be filled. For example! my one friend is a nerdy gamer type. He never even considered upgrading his mouse. I bought him a mouse and he's used it every day, and seems to really like it. I got another friend headphones as an upgrade over his old pair--which were pretty much ipod headphones. They never really considered these wants, but both were happy to receive a (free) upgrade, and were pleased I put thought into the gift.

Sex related. I guess it only counts if in a relationship. I know a lot of guys who are just fine with their girl buying some lingerie and and putting that "wrapping paper" on the "present."

boys dont require shopping for

lol... This blog is just luring in all the creepers from all over TL... Hilarious.

Here has been my experience with gifting (and I love the concept of gifting):
for the Ladies, you have to think of something from the heart-- you can't just buy a necklace and expect a girl to go "ooh shiny, me like!" -- you have to consider things about her-- her likes, her dislikes, her fears and fantasies, you need to cater to her soul.
for the Fellas, you have to think practically-- does he need a new mouse? Get him a new mouse. Find a need, and fix it.

Brofist!
Of course in the modern age of feminism, I have no problem with clothes as long as they are for work. I can stay at home naked if that is preferable. Of course house rules state no clothes allowed when inside one's domicile. Equal rights = Equal responsibility, no clothes for anyone when at home. No guests either...

Yeah, I actually upgraded from GTS250 to a GTX550Ti.
Good buy, decent mid range graphics card that doesn't blow any budget. Your pretty generous considering its like a $150 (Australian dollar) gift.

I respectfully disagree. I live with my lady and the more time we spend naked the better. Of course that may have something to do with the weather. I guess for generalisability's sake, house rules should be changed to either lingerie or nothing. I can live with that...

It actually doesn't matter what parts you put in that computer, 850W power supply will run it easily. I'm not sure about the motherboard, but I've never heard of a graphics card frying a motherboard. Also, you talked to a guy at Best Buy or whatever about it, AND your boyfriend built his computer right? Just tell him you weren't sure if it was the right one and he can do a little research before he puts it in his computer.

The GTS 250 had a "minimum requirement" of 450 watts and 25 amps on the 12+ rail. The PSU should be fine if the bf bought a PSU at or above the GTS 250's power requirement.

Ok. Yeah I don't buy a whole lot of equipment too often, so I'm not sure how seriously to take the reviews. People usually just write reviews when something goes wrong, so it can go either way.

No it's graphics card AND hoodie. Now that's a keeper.

That's not even the same model or even from the same manufacturer... I looked at the 1star review and laughed when he said the card was running too hot at 63c.
The model she bought was an EVGA DS Superclocked -AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130657 EVGA arguably has the best support in the industry and this model has a lifetime warranty upon registration so make sure you register it at www.evga.com within 30 days of purchase or else you default to the three year warranty.

You are an amazing girlfriend. My ex-girlfriend would get me the most thoughtless stupid gifts. She didn't put any effort into them, except for my one birthday, sorta. She even knew that a nice gesture was all I wanted on my birthday, and she didn't do it.
Keep that up. You're great.

Imho it's way to expensive and he'll feel bad because of that because he will never have something that expensive ( not if he's not some rich guy that just buys jewelry on a daily basis)
|
He has a Corsair HX850 and an ASUS ROG, I'm pretty sure he's rich? A GTX 560 Ti is actually nothing in comparison to how much he spent on those two components.
|
He'll love it, good job! Thoughtful too honestly..
|
OP is a gold-digger
But then again, why didn't he have a better graphics to begin with? Inconsistency right there. Or does his rig consist of expensive b-day gifts from different gfs? Omgosh!
|
Can I be your boyfriend too?
|
Buy him a chain for his pocket watch.
Most guys won't care that much about clothes, or at least won't be emotionally attached to it. Unless it's a jersey for their favorite sports team. Guys are happy with most things that are pretty cool.
|
Now every single TL guy to read this post is going to make "buys me a graphics card for Xmas" an essential quality for future relationships. I look forward to the million girl blogs angry at their girlfriends who buy them crappy cards and other gifts.
TL:DR, that's an amazing gift. count me very jealous.

DAMN THIS GUY IS LUCKY TO HAVE A GF LIKE YOU

You have my internet tech nerd stamp of approval.

|
He dosent read your blog?
I would dump him.
|
when i was still with my ex i got her a box of things she always used. sounds boring yes? error. that symbolic gesture with like bodybutter, hairspray and other random little things she enjoyed, was the best gift i ever got for someone :> seing her feel so guilty when i got my tshirt and some other random clothing was pretty priceless haha

|
if my girlfriend got me that, i would definitely be surprised lol..
its all about the surprise most of the times.. =)
great pick!
|
Your title is misleading. We're incredibly easy to shop for and thank God you checked out his graphics card prior. That is a huge upgrade.
|
Pretty thoughtful, I think he'll be very impressed.
|
I'm too stupid to buy computer components for my boyfriend... So I'm buying him an iPhone 4S instead. e-z.

Oh my, Birthday and Valentine's? Do you guys like getting massages? You should get a giftcard for a couples massage? Quality time and relaxation! And some places also add in complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries, yumm. Only if you two are into that kind of stuff..and if not ,more techy stuff lol.

I've never had a professional massage. :0 But I'll pass on the strawberries.
We're both super health conscious... Okay, me, not so much, but he's pretty cautious about what he eats.
We are big fans of Formula 1. We went to Montreal last year for the Grand Prix; but I don't think we're gonna go again this year... Too expensive right now haha.
We are boring. qq

Excellent gift. I'm always wishing I had a better graphics card, especially when I'm installing new games.
