Lots of people will be of lesser intellect than yourself. Lots of people are going to be a waste of your time. It's easy enough to handle these kind of people; you just grit your teeth and deal with it. Why? Because they aren't going anywhere. You will deal with these people for the rest of your life. These people will be your family, friends, co-workers, colleagues, bosses, underlings, and everything in between. This is life. Congratulations. you are the smartest kid in your class. This means that if your teacher was teaching you at your pace, everyone else would be left behind. The burden is on you to challenge yourself. You are not entitled to personal education. Read some books on your own, learn your own skills, and ace every test in class since it takes you half the effort to study for them. You suffer from being a big fish in small pond. At my high school, 1930 was about the score the "bad" students would get. Lets just say our goal was to get at least 300 points higher than that. Guess what? you're completely correct. Everyone, me, you, and everyone else included, is stupid. And each one of us should constantly try to get less stupid. Also, the SAT is such a shit indicator of a student's actual intelligence. I don't know why anyone ever pulls out those numbers. I got a 1400 in the seventh grade (back before the writing section was introduced), and, let me tell you, I was dumb as fuck in seventh grade. Though I guess the one thing I did have going for me in seventh grade was that I didn't think everyone else around me was stupid. All the SAT measures is a student's ability to take one type of standardized test. That's it. | ||

Putting effort into things is one of the best skills/assets to develop, and getting sub par grades into things you put no effort into is nothing to be proud about. I was in high bronze league last time I laddered, which was probably a month ago. I found it boring because everyone not in like top 10 bronze was so unbelievably bad I could do what ever the hell I wanted to and still win, like only make marines until I'm maxed out and a-move them to their death or go like 15 or even 16 gate as toss (mainly because I forgot to make it lol) and get away with it. There is such a huge difference between someone in top 8-25 bronze and people not in top bronze that it is stupid. And that's why I barley play sc2 anymore, it's too easy. I also can relate to some of my teachers legitimately being less intelligent than me. My chemistry teacher literally doesn't know what converting something to a fraction means. She is kind of like the teacher described in the OP, she just hands out worksheets with directions on them that tell you how to do stuff, reads off a powerpoint, or shows us a movie. It's a good thing that I'm only in level 3, the normal level in my school, and everything is easy enough that I don't have to ask any questions. | ||

Bad - yeah, you probably aren't as smart as you think. If you were really smart your guidance counselor wouldn't have been so eager to steer you towards Earth Science (hint, don't put that on your resume). You might actually be smarter than your teachers, but sadly you'd be surprised how many smart people weren't enticed into the glamorous world of teaching high school. If you find any gems at your high school, then they are awesome and they are actually sacrificing a lot in the hopes of making a difference in your life TL;DR - keep writing, stay away from science, gl hf. | ||

Here's some news for you. For the problems that you describe, university/colleges are worse. Most of your teachers don't give a crap about you and are only teaching because it's a requirement to keep the grant money to further their research. The highly regarded teachers are highly regarded because of their publications & research, not because they know what the heck they're doing in a classroom. The ones with the doctorates are usually worse teachers than the ones without it. The ones that do care about teaching don't last long because they're putting their efforts towards that instead of publishing and so they wind up getting sacked after a couple of years. One of the first things you realize when you get out into the "real world" is that you really don't know much of anything and that what little I do know is pretty specialized with a very narrow scope. Looking back, school feels like it's just there to make you learn how to learn and to give you the foundation on which you'll build a career. To put it metaphorically, the entirety of kindergarten through college is a microcosm in which they're teaching you the basics like writing & counting so that you're ready to learn what you'll actually need for the rest of your education As Socrates once said... "If I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know.". | ||

Jokes aside, reading through this thread has made me realize that my high school really sucked in comparison with standard education it seems, ha! I made a 1920 on my SAT and the average score for my school is like 1200... I thought my score was pretty good but now I am just angry that my High School education was so sparse in comparison. To the OP, the SAT is just a number on a sheet of paper, it does not in any way signify intelligence. At best, it is a representation of what you remember from your English/Lit and Math classes. I guarantee you that there are geniuses that collect garbage and never graduated High School. Regardless, you are just an average individual who is slightly more competent than your peers (according to your perspective.) Relax and learn some humility | ||

I would contend that you suffer from illusions of grandeur, or you would not be taking a course because you hear it is easy and then getting a B in it. I sincerely doubt that you are unable to challenge yourself. It would be possible for you to skip a grade or challenge exams if you were truly capable and willing. Also, high school is easy. Come back and talk to me once you get a 4.0 in an engineering program while overloading on courses if you still feel like wagging your e-penis around. | ||

First off, I'd like to take a moment to say "thank you". Because you all were dicks. This morning when I woke up, I sat in bed thinking about how much of a dick I am sometimes. I wondered what it must feel like for people who everyone is a massive dick to all the time. So after thinking for a few hours at school, I came home and wrote this blog. Now, because I wasn't serious about much of what I said in this blog, I obviously wasn't stung full force by any of these comments. Some of them were actually hilarious. Like the guy that made a "tribute" to my post, not even twelve hours old at the time. What a supreme doucher. Now, for a long time, I've been thinking to myself that I should make an effort to be nicer to people, but I couldn't find the right reason, because to be quite frank, nearly everyone around me is shitty. But you guys got me to thinking, the best way to say "fuck you all for the rest of forever" is to be one hundred percent unadulterated nice to everyone I speak with. Kill 'em with kindness and all that. So I would like to say to all of you, have a very happy Nicember (Nye-cem-burr), a holiday dedicated to being nice to everyone. It starts on December second, because I was already a dick to people today. Mark your calendars folks, cause it's gonna be an awesome, love-filled ride. Its not hard to be the smartest kid in class in high school, its pretty much a joke, I was the smartest kid in my science / maths classes but I dont have shit on guys like my flat mate, or the ones like him who actually apply themselves. I suppose I should mention that im doing a masters degree in physics at one of the UK's top universities so I set the bar high, higher than this kid will ever achieve, regardless of what he thinks. I guess I also take issue with peoples definition of intelligence, they see intelligence as the all encompassing unit of brain power. Utter tripe, intelligence is just an arbitrary word used to describe your ability to solve problems, think abstractly, reason etc etc, there are so many different ways to describe it that saying 'im intelligent' doesnt really mean much and if you want a good example, just look at a savant, they are immensely talented in one very specific area of 'intelligence', but they are so mentally handicapped you cant really look at them and say they can solve all your problems when they cant even tie their own shoes. So if you really want to consider yourself intelligent, go read some philosophy (I would suggest you start with Seneca, he deals with anger quite well in my opinion), ponder your own intelligence, not the intelligence of others, self reflection is one of the most important tools for those who believe they are more intelligent, for one it will stop you being a dick to other people, and second it will keep you occupied (something that you can struggle with in school if you find it too easy). Then go to a good university and discover you're not as smart as you think, and finally be humbled. | ||

If you read my last blog entry, you'd notice that getting places in life comes from having a good rapport with people and being a genuinely good person. It will give you breaks and allow you to make progress when the unappreciative or the undeserving would receive none. I was once a stuck up kid who was smart as a whip in elementary and high school too. I was identified as "gifted" and all that jazz. Very early on in school I realized that being a know-it-all gets you treated like an asshole. Then, when I got to university I realized that being a genius doesn't mean you have the ability to learn without any effort. You are different in that you're keeping this attitude at a much older age, plus you're bitter as fuck about it. Well, guess what? The world does not give a fuck and you are going to get raped up the ass if you don't change it. I know plenty of people who wasted their potential on some stupid whim. You will not get anything if you don't shut the fuck up and work and stop complaining about it. If you think you're so smart and so much better then be smarter and be better than everyone else. If you don't have something to show for your intelligence - some measure of proof - then you're no better than anyone else. Don't talk about it, just be nice and let other people see it and realize it and lament their failures to themselves. That's the best you can ask for without being thought of as an asshole. The best revenge is living well. | ||

I'm really smart. I hesitate to say i'm a genius, partly because i don't know my IQ, and partly because I know there's always someone who's going to be smarter than me. But i'm really smart. I got a 2400 on the SAT. I only know one other person at my school who got a higher score, and she did better on the writing (she got a 12 on the essay, I got 11), but on the ACT, I beat her by a mile. I got a 1600 without writing. But I'm not bragging, I'm simply saying that so that you know I swear because i enjoy it, not because my vocabulary is weak. That's it about me. Now about everyone else. As you may have read in the title, everyone is stupid. I'm sick of people. They are shitty, oftentimes just to be shitty. I've been in classes before where I'll give an answer and everyone including the teacher will tell me i'm wrong. But i'm not. This is kind of a setup for my big rant, I hate school. Don't say "You should drop out ololol". Escpecially don't say "You should drop out trolololol" I hate fucking hipster faggots that use the word troll to apply to everything. The college I go to is shitty. Think CMU/USC/Rice. We have about two hundred janitors and the campus is pretty small, yet there are drunkards fucking EVERYWHERE. The janitors drive around in golf carts all day not accomplishing shit. Like, what the fuck. I hate it when I take a class and I'm smarter than my professor. Like I'm legitimately more intelligent than the person that teaches the class. My guidance counselor (1350?) told me to take advanced fundamentals of mechanics and thermodynamics, because he said that shit was "harder than me in your mother". Yes, my guidance counselor is a baller. So I took the class. What I didn't know is that when he said hard, he actually meant advanced brick tossing. Like, fucking instead of defining entropy, we talk about heat. Instead of her lecturing at any length, she reads off a shitty powerpoint she downloaded off the internet or shows a video. She doesn't teach. She's a fucking moron. And to make it even worse, people complain about how hard the class is. It's fucking easy. I don't ever do anything that takes me more than five minutes, and I have a 96 in the class. I mean, I hate how "honors" doesn't even mean anything any more. I may have taken the class because it was hard, so I expected to LEARN in it. But apparently gaining knowledge is an unreasonable expectation from my teacher. Honestly, I could go on, but I'll leave it at that for now. Who got accepted into the better colleges, who got scholarships? Those idiots who studied hard every night and did the extra credit work. Joke was on me I guess. I apply myself in school now and maintain a 95 average in my law course. Is that better than nearly everyone else in the class? Yeah- a lot better. That doesn't make me a more worthwhile person though. I don't have any illusions that just because I can do well academically that I have any more value than other people. I already got burned by thinking that way- I'm the one in a mediocre first year of college that I'm paying for. Smarten up man. I'm sure school feels like the entire universe right now- that will change a lot once you start working (assuming you don't hold a job now). Look at some other areas of your life to judge your real place. You're a bronze SC2 player... I think that right there is pretty indicative that you're not the smartest person you know. Maybe you do okay in school without trying, but not-trying hasn't gotten you very far in SC2 has it? I look at my 95 average in school, then compare it other parts of my life I'm putting effort in to. Love life? Sort of a joke really! Music? I'm always improving, but haven't jumped any real hurdles (getting an album down, playing to more than 100 people) in a long time. Money? What money? School is a measure of almost nothing.
