My name is Patrick, and I have a problem with alcohol. No, it's not a joke or anything, I actually do and it's nothing like "my problem is I'm not drinking some right now HAR HAR HAR". It's a legit problem and I'm just glad I'm seeing some of the signs early on. You see, alcoholism is a disease that is present in my family. We drink, and we like to do it, which is fine. But I've begun to hide my drinking.
That's not fine. In fact that's bad. I've had the urge to drink and the need to drink on some occasions and fell into them. I have even had to consider hard on whether or not to get alcohol with food when going out, or even based my decision on what time of day it was. ugh! I brought the subject up to my wife about my drinking and apparently she noticed I have a problem too. Which means I exhibit other signs that I'm not aware of.
So where does the title come in? I'm quitting drinking for the month of December, and during this time I will be taking any money gained from streaming, and donating it to a local AA so it can help out other people and their families that may not have seen the signs early enough. I will also be going to meeting myself and giving updates of my own progress on stream.
So, I'm asking everyone that reads this and has a friend or family member that has (or had) a problem with alcohol, help me out by tuning in to stream at http://www.twitch.tv/nesc2league and follow me on twitter. I stream only about 2 hours a night and will be doing SC2, SC2 campaign, LoL, and some other games. Even if you just mute the stream in the background, any revenue from the commercials will be a big help. And by the way, December is just the month that I will be doing the charity, I plan on abstaining from drinking for longer.

This total baller started up his own sc2 lan league and has put on some fun events in New England and thats no simple task. You've earned my respect as I can't imagine how hard that is for one person to setup, I'll be tuning in tonight as I write my english paper, and everyone else should too.
edit: and by tonight i mean thursday

i just randomly clicked on this to read something while the gf was getting ready.
i personally grew up with an alcoholic mother for most of my teen years. it also runs throughout my family on my moms side. it is great that you are noticing the signs early and are willing to do something about it. my mother always blamed her drinking on the house we lived in and financial problems, yet once she moved out it continued. good luck with your time abstaining time through december and beyond. i will leave your stream on as much as i can.

I have a friend who drinks more and more since the girl he loved moved away :-/
He just doesn't recognise how much he changed since he started drinking so much.
Me and my friends thought about something like holding an intervention on his problem but till now we didn't made exact plans.

Well, just like JCON, I've had an alcoholic relative that has caused major problems in their life. So I know what damage it can cause and how it can hurt a family. The part about talking, well, I am an Iraqi war vet and found that by talking about my problems with others, it helped me get better quicker, do to the open dialog. I still have a few friends that won't open up and you can see the stress on them wear them out on a daily basis. But thank you guys for the support. I can only hope that me getting help for myself let's others get help themselves.

If it truly is serious and you drink a lot, be careful as seizures and DT's can occur during the withdrawal phases

I went to my first meeting tonight. It feels good. There was a speaker and he was telling his story at the start of the meeting and talked about how alcohol had actually effected his early behavior due to interactions with his father. And it got me thinking about some things. Does my behavior, now, even though I never reached the point that the speaker or his father did, effect my daughter's behavior? I'm strict and loving all the time. Always playing with my daughter and giving her high-fives and encouraging, but still letting her know when something was only a little bad or okay or so she's knows that hitting is not acceptable by sending her to her room. My fuse is shorter on drinking days...
