What's your opinion on folks that refuse to "gg?"

I've seen quite a few people who go, "It's not over until every last building is destroyed."

I can kinda see both sides of this. I think of GalaxyQuest, "Never give up! Never surrender!" Make your opponent burn every building to the ground to earn their victory. Concede nothing, surrender nothing.

(I do have a fun story involving PFs in a TvT that lasted like 2 hours, when my opponent finally said, "I don't have enough time for this %@!%@!" and quit on me. But I was definitely still doing some damage to him then too.)

On the other side of it, honestly, if you have no chance anymore, why waste both players time?

Never surrender is a fine mantra in life. SC2 is a game, it should not be an exercise in frustration, which is why we GG when all is lost.

It depends entirely on your motivation for playing. If you get more satisfaction trying to eek a win by infuriating your opponent then by simply playing another game, do that.

Just don't expect your opponents to feel the same way.

I personally tab out of a game with a "gg" as soon as I see no point in drawing it out any longer. But (But!) it can be a nice practice to play out crazy games where you are far behind, because there could be a situation where your knowledge gained in those moments could give you the edge.

An easy example would be that I play out every base trade even when I don't have a chance because its rare to be able to practice such situations and it can be valuable knowledge for tournaments or games where you actually have a chance ^^

But the OP is Terran so what should s/he do? XD

IMO if all is lost and you know you can't win, be a grown up about it, gg and don't waste your time or theirs

I'm a random, so far. Although, considering headed to the zerg side, since that seems to be where most of my random wins come from.

tbh I don't mind people who stay in the game even after they have obviously lost. if you float into corners then ok yeah you are wasting my time a little bit but... I'm already playing a game and nothing makes me happier than leaving a CC in the red and watching it slowly burn down with an observer

However in your case I always get a little bit nervous and think theres something I've missed on the map xD

As long as you don't have a problem with getting BMed on ladder, there's no harm in waiting for your opponent to literally kill every building. The game technically isn't over until you have zero structures left, so you have the right to stay in the game as long as you have a single building left.

Out of respect for moving the game along (and to keep a slightly more positive mindset), most players recognize when their games have reached a point of no return (when they have absolutely lost) and gg and leave the game. It's generally viewed as better sportsmanship (Fantasy's gg timings from BW were notoriously late, which made him a whipping boy for ridicule and manner rituals), but you do what you want- it's your game.

Heh. ~chuckles~ I've had people try that one on me, when I had a hidden base they didn't know about.

I usually wait a few seconds and say, "Hey, you forgot to surrender after you said GG."

If my opponent does not leave the game when I've won. I bust out the bm. Fighting in desperate and lost positions is ok, not leaving the game and watching your buildings get destroyed is pathetic and stupid.

If you want to be a dick, go ahead but personally I don't see the need to pointlessly prolong a game and piss off my opponent (and waste my own time).

bm = bad manner.

If your opponent bms you (or if you're being *bmed* by your opponent), then he's telling you you're terrible, or dancing his units in front of your base, or otherwise ridiculing you. That often happens if you stay in the game too long, because your opponent considers it disrespectful that you don't type gg and leave the game when the game is pretty much over.

Of course, you might run into people who are bm for no reason at all too. They might be having a bad day, or might just feel like being a douche bag for no reason at all.

Don't waste people's time. If you're dead, you're dead, and there's nothing much else to do other than tap out.

I'm glad that at least one person got it :D

Yeah, pretty much if you've lost and it's to the point where you're lifting your buildings and trying to relocate to a new base- you might want to consider leaving the game. You could 'theoretically' win with a massive amount of luck (opponents power fails)
but really you're just wasting your own time. Find somewhere between (Z)IdrA and (T)Fantasy that suits you and go with it.

I don't care if my opponent GG's or not. But for god's sake, leave the game when you are dead.

"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, doubting dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before."

Eagerly I sought the 'morrow, vainly I had hoped to borrow, from my souls unending sorrow, sorrow for the lost Lenore. For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore, nameless here for evermore.

Back in SC1, getting your base destroyed just seemed like the last act of humiliation. So it seemed manly to watch stalwartly as they murders your innocent peons and raze your home (buildings) as your last warriors try to take as many enemies as they can.

Plus part of playing campaigns was destroy their last unit or their last building. If that's the mission, that's what you have to do. I never asked myself, why doesn't blizzard make the computer give up once it loses all it's fighting units? If you have to kill the last zeppelin, you have to kill the zeppelin.

Interestingly related, I just saw Nerchio vs HayprO game 2 at Dreamhack. Jeebus, heh, I'm definitely leaning towards waiting longer after watching that one.
