For all you impulse posters out there...

We have all been there, we see a thread title saying something exciting or controversial and we click the link as fast as we can ready to read and respond. But then the page opens and we see it, the dreaded wall of text, we know we should read it before giving our opinion but this is just to important. We read that first few lines get a feel for what the post is saying, or scroll to the bottom for the TLDR, then jump down to the bottom of the page and give our “awesome” response. We tell ourselves we will post real fast then read the thread later and edit our post afterwords or post again, but that never comes.

I have done it, you have done it everyone at some point has, its not always bad. But sometimes it dose prevent deeper conversations that can lead to some really good threads. Now for me the problem is sometimes i want to read something but its really long, i had a hard day of classes and my eyes hurt a bit. I just can not bring myself to sit and read an entire thread, it sounds bad i know and often times it prevents me from posting at all and that bothers me. I like to contribute and see what others have to say and i know many other people do as well.

With that in mind i am offer a simple suggestion, something that i have only recently started doing myself. I use an extension called Announcify, it will pull an article from a web-page open the text and images in a new tab and reads the article one paragraph at a time. In order to help the reader follow along if they wish it blurs out the other paragraphs to help you focus on the one being read. It has the ability to change the voice reading and the speed and pitch of the reading voice. I originally used this for reading articles on the Internet, you can load the article and move onto something else or another page and listen as the article is read out loud to you. I decided to give it a shot on TL threads the other day and for the most part it is able to pull the OP out and read it. Now to be fair there is no way to pause or jump to another point in the reading and i hope that feature will be added soon.

Imagine this you come across a really interesting thread, but you just can not stand to sit and read the whole thing, not while Liquid'Tyler is streaming. So you click on the extension and open the stream in a new tab. Now just sit back relax and listen to the lovely computer voice read you that thread while you watch the stream of your choice. When its over you can jump back to the thread and post your response knowing that you “read” the entire OP before posting. Please don’t get me wrong i am not saying it is a problem that needs to be fixed or anything but if your like me and want to be able to read longer threads or more threads without straining your eyes i suggest you give this a shot.

Being read to while you're paying attention to a stream isn't nearly as effective as actually reading. You will take in barely any information. There's no workaround to understanding - the more you put in, the more you get out. Sit down, relax, and take the time to read the whole thing.

I think one could say one should think of it as a reply button not a post button.

I agree with what you are saying and i was simply using the watching stream thing as an example. I often start the program and sit and close my eyes to listen. Your right that people need to understand and focus on what is being said and for some people reading is not always the best way for this to be accomplished. For me listening is by far the best way for me to take in information, but when it comes to people not reading things at all and just posting i think this provides another option, a different way for people to focus.

I downloaded the extension, and it is pretty cool. My only problem is I only get one very annoying monotone voice. Where woud I be able to get different voices?

I think I'm quite good about not doing that, If I want to partake in a thread I'll read the whole OP. This is also why I don't post in the political/financial threads etc. There's nothing wrong with not posting, and If you don't have the time to read the OP I don't see why one should... this of course greatly depends upon the nature of the subject, and is pretty forgivable on some occasions.

Yeah i found this one that i use, should have posted the link earlier but i think its the best sounding one out there. Just make sure in settings to select it as the voice and save.

I don't think so, considering the poster two above you literally posted the EXACT app that the OP posted. At least you looked at the post, not just the title.

OP: I don't see how this would change any "impulse poster"'s habits... They post without reading anyways, why should they listen instead? :/ Hopefully it works for some people though, that would most certainly be nice. ^_^

Each time I answer in a compulsive fashion so people can know about my amazing view on things, it happen that multiple people posted the exact same thing. And yeah, this is why a lot of threads will have still be blocked in the same page 2 argument loop in page 200.
Since I noticed that, I try to stop doing that (and mostly succeed)
It's like the urge to answer to trolls. Everyone wants to do it, but it's when people learn not to do it that the place becomes better. Nothing better than to be in a thread where a troll posts a big shit and where no one answer to him. Each time I imagine how miserable that person is at that moment xD Troll responding and compulsive posting, a modern disease.

Actually, I don't blame the impulse posters but blame it more on the writer. As a writer, it is your responsibility to convey your message that can be read through easily by structuring it well. For example, many posters will make their point randomly in the middle of the wall of text and then blame people for not reading the post.

The key to a good post:
- Good title (although, I sometimes like to take advantage to stir people by using an inflammatory title).
- Main point in the first paragraph.
- Supporting evidence.
- Conclusion at the end.

I did that trick I know, where you just look at the entire post, and just focus real hard, then you kinda feel what it's about.
