The GSL is awesome, and i have been a subscriber for all events (except Team Ace Invitational) since Open Season 1. But 3 things are still missing:
1) First person footage I want to see these guys play, not to just move their armies around. I am actually baffled why they don't include it. It shouldn't be that hard to implement, right?
2) League Intros featuring the players A big part of the hype i had for the old BW leagues was because of their intros which were not only awesome, but also featured the players. Gom's intros might not be good, but i can live with that. But I need the best 8 players from the last season to appear in them. I know this is probably not possible now due to the tight schedule, But in the meantime they could at least take 2-3 of the good players of each race and feature them in a intro that runs for 3-4 months. The faces are so important since you barely see them during the games.
3) Commercials The pauses without commercials really bug me. I would be content to watch the Korean commercials rather than have a silent pause. Commercials are a (albeit small) party why i like to watch the NFL stream. They just add to the flavor of the program. And to be perfectly clear: I am fine with paying AND watching commercials at the same time.

What I miss when watching GSL: 4 hours of sleep. But I did the same for BW and loved it <3
I do miss the korean commercials too. I always had fun watching those. Titty Sambo anyone? And the random music videos. Last week, while browsing youtube for korean pop music, I realized I knew most of the musics because of pauses between game back in Broodwar. But I think this is mostly konadora's fault.

So pay for commercials, but if you don't want commercials watch the free stream? Doesn't make sense.
I actually kinda agree about the commercials. Since I live in USA seening the koreans commercials is a funny novelty. And i remember watching BW on OGN and MBC and everyone quoting some korean word over and over like its some kind of inside joke meme for weeks. Like that one ice cream commercial that didnt make sense and said something like SAMBO
Definitely needs more dramatic camera zooms on players during matches (and switches to FP view).

I mean watch the free stream to not have to pay. Mixing 2 streams (one with and one without commercials) is probably not feasable

exactly what i miss too. like artosis said they are doing it because thats the only way to have so many players playing sc2 ( no salarys...). but i hope they will change it up in the future
I really loved the intros in the OSL and MSL etc and still get chills to this day when I watch them. I think having an intro with players like Nestea, Mvp, MC, HuK etc would be really cool especially something like this:
Yeah, I really miss not having any sort of footage of the players while they're playing, I also wouldn't mind any sort of commercial during their break, preferably a music video or something to tide you over until the next game. Something else that could be really neat could be highlights of the previous round (i.e. in between ro16 games show highlights from the ro32).
And your point on league intros is definitely my favorite. GOMTV definitely has enough money to be able to afford such a production, and it would be awesome to see. It would hype the games up so much more for me, even if none of the players in the intro are playing it still gets you more into it.
Really nice ideas, OP. I would also like the top 8 players to be presented as some kind of Elite. Maybe Code S should be smaller alltogether. Also i think the seasons follow each other too closely. In the beginning you were looking really forward to it. Nowadays you kinda look forward to a break. Rare things are just more epic, and in the downtime they can do GSTLs and AOLs and whatnot. Also i would be interesting in a tournament phase where we really find out who is the best, a small number of small groups which Bo3 maybe even with rematches. You may argue rightfully that for something like the GSL its important that each match feels really important but it wuold be ok if only the top players would play cause everybody like to see lots of their games. At least id like to see how it would out cause i always feel success depends a bit too much on preparation/day-to-day shape and cheeses. Some korean commercials i would also enjoy them cause it helps immerging in the culture.
I miss John and Artosis interviews the most out of anything. Those were the best. If they were worried about PoopFeast420 asking more questions--That was hilarious! Or just don't say the names. ♥ Artosis ♥ John ♥
I'm really big on showing faces. We need to give a face to our stars. I know like, nesteas face in my head, and i know like marinekings, idras, and incontrols. But alot of the koreans, I don't know. But BW, shit, i know storks, bisus, flashs, kal, jangbis, fantasys, jaedongs. I know there faces perfectly in my head. But we really need intros with players. These motherfuckers are badass, they need badass intros.
For the intros, they could use the 8-12 best ranked players, regardless if they are in code S or A. I don't think that would upset anyone and if they make new Intros every 4 months, it's reasonable accurate.
I agree with all of what the OP is saying, but first there needs to be a bigger focus on the team league and fewer starleagues. Winning three in a year just feels weird. The major wins are too oversaturated. It seems to only mean something if you win multiple times.
I think I agree with pretty much all of this, and with the recently introduced playback feature (at least in Code A) it looks like they're moving in the right direction
Somewhat irrelevant, but at the last GSL final, they had 3 screens: 2 for the player's screen and the biggest for the observer's screen. I found myself watching Jjakji's screen just as often as the obs screen.
