So my AP Lit class has this thing where if we finish a unit on a Thursday, we have an "independent reading and writing day" the next day during which time we can read or write anything as the name implies (excluding textbooks from other classes). This way we don't have to start something on a Friday. So generally I have nothing to do during these days cause I don't bring books to school in case they get ruined so I end up doing something random. One time I just kept multiplying by 2 by hand and by the end of the class I reached 2^68 which was pretty funny. I'm not sure how I didn't make a mistake that whole time because I was going pretty quickly. So today was another one of those days and I decided to write about starcraft in iambic pentameter. This didn't really work well because I'm apparently not very good at iambic pentameter so I don't really believe half the stuff I said in this "poem," but it was fun to write. So here it is:
My probes are mining minerals for me
So I can make a lot of infantry
When I say infantry, I mean dt's
Because they are some useful guys to have
And when they clock my rival rages hard
He thinks that I have cheesed him but he's wrong
Because I have expanded in my nat
A pressure build that sometimes wins the game
I wonder why my rival sucks so much
And then I realize that I am in gold
And not a pro or even master's league
I guess that's why my dt's win the game
Detection is a useful skill to have
Because you will not die to one dt
If you could only have the mind to put
A missle turret and a raven too
You will not die to one but maybe two
If I split my guys then you might lose
When one does die, the other will avenge
The SCV's will die a death by blade
Psyonic templar crushing everything
You cannot help but push out with marines
Because when you try macroing with me
I hae a clear advantage from the start
I cannot lose as long as I can play
And a-move with my army with corsairs
Oh, wait! There are no more corsairs for me
Instead I have to deal with pheonix ships
Which can't dish out the damage that I need
To combat multitudes of mutalisks
Which normally would die to splash attacks
If I could only have corsairs (whoops, just realized this one is tetrameter haha corrections anyone?)
The thing I think is weirrd about this game
Is when I try to see it as a sport
But balance in a sport does not exist
Because they aren't contained by engines that
Force inherent differences between (whoops again, this doesn't start with an unstressed)
The players that could otherwise be equal
This cannot happen in another sport
Once again, I want to make sure that people know that this is fictitious. I was just trying to fit iambic pentameter. I've actually never done a dt expand, I'm not actually in gold league, I don't have trouble against muta's and I don't have trouble thinking of starcraft as a sport. Hope you enjoyed my amateur efforts

AP lit was a bitch. Literally went through a novel every 2 weeks and no one got above a B+ on essays.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your approximate location? A teacher having a 'read/write' day sounds totally unacceptable in any school I've had anything to do with in this climate (don't worry, I won't report your school lol).

No, this is actually decently normal in AP classes (where I come from) when I was in high school. We would have a chunk of study and work, and when we got it all done we were allowed free time to do things within the topic that interested us, projects or extra credit or whatever it might be.

Yeah I took AP english lit, we frequently had days where we didn't do anything but read the book we were assigned for homework or work on an assignment that was upcoming if the teacher didn't feel like teaching.
Also had friends in AP classes where once the test was done, the class did nothing but watch movies the rest of the year (approximately 1 month), with the reasoning generally being that the reason you were taking the class was over, so most of the teachers knew nobody would give a fuck.

Letting students work on an upcoming assignment isn't really what I was talking about... I'm talking about just general directionless things like "read/write whatever you want."
Also for those of you saying this is normal based on your experience, keep in mind that if you took these classes more then like 7 years ago then things were a bit different back then.

If only corsairs had not been removed.

Na, corsair has the stress on the second syllable so that doesn't work.
And our ap lang class did the same thing on some fridays too so I don't think it's too uncommon
