Ugh... I'm feeling pretty shit right now. Almost through the one of the most boring hoildays of my life. I did some pretty cool stuff. (Saw the blue mountains in NSW, holy fuck are they amazing), but really I spent most of my time inside, trying to get myself to study. The only thing I have done socially is go to Karoke with my friends, but it just reminded me of how little I do. And its this lack of being social that pisses me off. All my friends are pretty damn smart, so they're on another level of study then me. They're pretty much doing 200% more work then me at school. Also have some girl problems (Lol not mentioning that in this, should really just tell her about it, but of course im a pussy)
I guess my life is pretty good considering that im born into a first world country and I have internet and what not, but since I'm human, and sheltered from the truely terrible things that happen, I have to bitch and moan about my life.

But I want to change that. Throughout the entire time I have been at school, I haven't truely applied myself, EVER. I want to see just how far I can push myself, not just in study, but also phsycially. Theres a mountain near my house, and I wanna see the sunrise from it. I wanna get a job and spend some time each day working there. I wanna try and learn korean (Started two days ago and I'm enjoying it). I wanna beat a grandmaster that isn't offracing and playing with lag. I wanna get somewhat decent at the piano. I wanna meet more people and just generally enjoy these teenage years that I have left, rather than waiting for something good to happen.

I wanna live.

Write your dreams down. Who you want to meet, what books you want to read, where you want to go, where you want to be.

Put them in a box and draw inspiration from it. Whenever you're feeling the blues, reach inside the box and pull out one of your dreams. Powerful dreams pull you into the future. Negative thoughts pull you back into the past.

Have a vision of a future. What you do today is going to bring you into the future. If you don't know what you're going to miss, you're going to make the wrong decisions.

Don't think "I would if I could."
Say "If I can, I will."

IF you truly want to have a life, leave the computer off for a week. You'll find yourself doing a lot of I don't have the time for this things. Enjoying being a teenager is hard, because most teens think the world is against them (well in the US at least, sit all day in school and learn practically nothing). The truth is, if you stop caring about what others think about you will be happier; instead of "OH NOES this girl/guy thinks I look stupid" and slipping back to the shadows (not literally, well maybe) to dwell on your assumption, you can hang out with friends while making more and not give a fuck.

i'm just going to say that you should try to become the person you truly are instead of trying to become someone else who you want to be. if you enjoy being one way don't think it's wrong just because other people are doing it differently. don't be ashamed if you don't do a lot of shit with people etc because if you really look inside yourself and see you enjoy it that way then don't try to change it.

only live for yourself and no one else, don't let other people influence your decisions either if you want it to be how you have outlined it in your head. you also don't want to put too much shit on your plate at once to achieve because you're only going to feel shittier when you realize you can't do all that shit at once.

take things one at a time and just enjoy the life you were given in whatever way that YOU actually enjoy it.

What you want seems to be mostly long term. Proficiency requires a lot of time and effort for skills such as piano and learning another language. You want to work daily but you may have neither the skills for a desirable job, nor the knowledge of what sort of job you desire. Everyone wants the ideal career, but few find it; fewer still find it without time and sacrifice. A part time job is great, but try to make it one day after school or one day in the weekend. You'll grow to hate something that is, in all probability, less interesting than your other hobbies, as well as less significant than the time spent on your studies, if you have to do it on a daily or near-daily basis.

Also, just climb a mountain. Leave in the morning, finish in the afternoon and see how far you can go. Do something spontaneous. Don't think or plan or fret, just do. All this worrying and fantasising is highly unproductive. Even if you feel slightly better for listing all the things you want, you'll feel worse when you fail (as everyone would) to make your desired progress for such long term and demanding goals.

Go out and do it, because life waits for no one. Looking back in regret is one of the most horrible emotions to experience, and there's nothing you can do once you've missed your chances.

Do. That. Shit.

I kinda felt this way at one point in HS. If you have some sort of club or a sport you even want to slightly try out then just go for it. First step is taking the first step, then afterwards it just kind of goes on its own course. You'll meet a lot of people doing something fun and you'll gain a lot from it.

This thread recently popped up:

Speeches Thread

Go and watch some of the inspirational speeches, find your favourite and save it. When you're feeling low or like you can't be bothered, watch one.

I hope that helps

Nah, I dont want the job because i'll love it (For gods sake, I want to work at mc donalds) I want it because then I can some control over the money in my life, rather than relying on my parents.
I also want the long term goals because, short term ones are somewhat unrewarding, and long term ones require more discipline and effort (two things I need to teach myself)

Do. That. Shit.

Yup, learnt that the hard way. Its why I want to change my life

I honestly dont know what I would do if I didnt use the computer for a week. IDK might try it after I've just generally found shit to do outside.
Also I hang out with a pretty judgemental group of friends at school (They are pretty cool, but they don't allow you to get away with doing/saying odd shit, making it kinda unfortable to talk, especially since the subjects they talk they have lots of background knowledge on and I dont)

Thanks for all the replies, the tl community IS amazing

For me its the other way around^^

Don´t wanna have a social life in this world full of hypocrisy in disguise. Humans are the worst thing earth (or call it God) ever greated...

Therefore I embrace my misanthropy and feed upon there anger.... ^^

Make sure your goals are attainable!

Beating a GM may take a while depending on how good you are
Learning a language is one of the most difficult things you could possibly hope to do.
Getting "somewhat" good at the piano is too vague

Climbing the mountain would be good!
Best of luck.

For you, I would just recommend to do what YOU want to do. Just because your friends are doing better in school doesn't mean you have to unless you truly want to do well, and even then it's never a good idea to compare your own accomplishments to those of others. And as for getting a job, that will undoubtedly interfere with how well you can do in school, so I don't think that would be the best option, but hey, if you can handle it (and you really want to do it), more power to you. As for climbing that mountain and learning korean, just do it. GL HF

Meh, the fact that i'm a caucasian male, and therefore part of the group of people that have the second highest life expectancy (first one being caucasian female, of course) in the entire world, is enough to keep me happy most of the time.

Just don't worry so much, the vast majority of the time worrying does very little to help you, it only makes it worse.

You seem to be aiming too much at the end-goals. Being good at this, and that, getting this, and that, and this and that and this and that and WHATTT dude ok the first step towards doing any of those is learning to appreciate the process. Want to beat a GM in a legit match? Well, play and practice, appreciate how much skill, dedication, and talent is required for each step up, and when you finally get there, you'll be proud of the achievement and that you worked hard for it. Want to be a decent pianist? Then you better appreciate both your own and others' music, and acknowledge that those at the higher levels worked hard for it.

Stay thirsty my friend.
