Today I finally decided to sit down and watch the day9 daily #100. So after driving home from work I sat down in front of my computer with my slice of toast to see what all of the emotional fuss was about.

I got to around the 50 minute mark and he started talking about how Artosis was just beaming as he played the game vs him and I felt my eyes start to water and I had no idea what was happening. I'm a guy that's seen close friends and family members die without shedding a single tear but here I am just listening about Artosis being happy and I'm about to cry.

This isn't the only time that Artosis has done this to me either. In the video of the 2005 WCG USA, in that section where Artosis had just lost to day9 and he talks about quitting his job again just to practise for the WCG, even just watching him try to keep himself together...it had me in tears. Why does Artosis do this to me?

After a few days of thinking about this I realised why it happened. When I saw that WCG video, I saw a guy who was willing to give up anything for something he loved. I admired that so much that it brought me to tears. I have so much respect for someone that can do that because I know I can't. I let my fear of failure hold me back and it's something that I'm not sure I can ever outgrow. Artosis however loves the game so much that despite his losses he was still willing to do the same thing the next year and the year after and i'm sure he would've for another 50 years if he hadn't moved to Korea.

And that is why Artosis is the only person that can make me cry.

and why i heart-voted for him in liquibet for every single match he played in the NASL

Gained respect for Artosis when I read that GosuTrolling interview he did about when he first went to Korea. People are complaining about how tough it is to come to korea stay at the gom house and practice for code A.

Guy came to Korea for a BW media job, no salary, lived in a team house as a friend of a friend and he'd always have to jump the subway thing as he could never afford it.

Yeah. It's not by chance that Artosis is one of the most loved personalities of SC community.

About the D9D#100 - It seems that it was Day9 and not Artosis that made you cry?

I kid you not, the rest of it I had a straight face. Enjoyed it but felt nothing like I did when day9 mentioned how he peaked around the side of his monitor and saw Artosis beaming as he played.

It's people like him that make this community amazing.

I have posted this before, but if you watch the entirety of that WCG video, you see the reigning champion "Froz" lose, and when he gets interviewed after his loss, he pulls out the "I'm too old, I don't care, I'm quitting the game anyway" card. Contrast that to artosis' interview where he was obviously choked with tears, yet instead of brushing it aside with excuses and defense mechanisms, he says he will go home and practice more, come back next time... That is what really touched me.

Wow, I just watched that video.

That was awesome. So great to see them all so young and playing Brood War, really makes me wish I'd been involved in the Starcraft scene for longer. =(

Makes me want to watch Daily #100 again as well.

Idd, artosis has always been my favourite bw/sc2 personality.. The passion that guy has for this game is really something else.

Wish he'd come to sweden to commentate some day just so that I could shake his hand.

Also wish he was still doing starcraft weekly's

Just as a warning, the following post is probably unnecessary, but I've got a lot of spare time at work, I'm was/am a huge FroZ fanboy and don't want people thinking he'd try to make lousy and bm excuses for his loss.

FroZ isn't really playing a card if what he said is completely true.

BW wasn't his passion, he really didn't have an obsessive attitude toward the game that was and is all the rage in online gaming. His fellow players weren't his best friends in the world like what seems to happen now. FroZ was known for being naturally incredible at the game and hardly practiced. He would often take breaks for many months, practice for a couple weeks and decimate everyone who'd been playing their asses off during his absence. This is the American that was taking multiple games off Boxer at WCG and that shit just did not happen. I always found this to be a huge deal. The FroZ archetype is found in Nony during the later portion of his Brood War career when he would just appear after months of inactivity and destroy foreigner players who were pro or trying to go pro.

To compare Artosis' attitude to FroZ's as being the superior one is understandable but ill informed of the context. The fact is that FroZ really hadn't the heart to play for a long time before that but for years was almost always the USA's best hope of any success at WCG, just by being FroZ. And that is simply badass.

Maybe I'll just write my own blog post about FroZ and explain him... sorry for the long winded reply! Just want the knowledge to spread.

Is that interview still up somewhere?

I would really like that! I played Warcraft II back then and have essentially no idea who FroZ is. Liquipedia has virtually no information on him that I was able to dig up!
