Sooo I've been playing starcraft 2 a long time, and I like to play it and watch it (mostly GSL and MLG ) however a couple days ago I played broodwar with my older cousin (he suggested it over sc2) and I enjoyed playing broodwar alot with him. But now my cousin went away to college and im looking for a good place to broodwar games.. Is battle.net a good place? I heard of something called Iccup but thats probably too difficult opponents. . Also i've tried watching broodwar but I can't seem to find any English streams... Like I want to watch the coming up OSL finals is there streams in English??

Thanks for any help, <3 TL

youtube : nevake (korean), nukethestars (engl.)

finals: dont know

You can try Bnet and look for noob games but people will trick you from time to time which can kill the fun factor a bit in the beginning. I suggest Iccup for good games on your level.

iccup.com is your place then. You can forget the official Bnet servers because they are more or less empty (since a couple of years alrdy because blizz failed to add a good, working ladder).
There are korean server too, but the skill there is a lot higher. Dont go there.
But ICCup is different to the SC2 AMM system. You will go through a lot of loss, before you feel a little less noobish. So you better look for a mate at about your skilllevel and play with him on ICCup. So you have competition, fun and you wont feel like your massively failing.

ICCup is your best bet. Bnet servers would be easier but yeah, they're pretty much empty.

Iccup is the best server to start or noob around. But after some level (C-/C that is) fish is better.

For VODs, use TL VOD Tracker and TLPD.

As for streams, Kiante and Sayle stream on a regular basis(Protoss that is), however you should just look at the side bar, and show non-featured to see the others.

Ow yeah Sayle has Disney music, if you are into that.

As for english commentary, the old gang has dissapeared however their vods are still there, including

Moletrap
Klazart(personally my favorite)
Diggity
Cholera

one who still does it and keeps up with the times is Nukethestars.

If you have any questions , feel free to ask in the General section, the irc channel #teamliquidbw or whenever there is Korean BW on(MSL,OSL, PL, although there won't be for a while except for OSL finals) feel free to ask questions in the chat, in general there are less people there, however the upcoming match is OSL final so questions are nogo there(whenever Jangbi storms, your question will be drowned in a psi storm of lines)

Liquipedia is also a great resource.

I haven't played BW in a very long time and if you wanna get started grab ICCUP and I'll play some games/watch replays with you. I can help you out and I'm at a place where I know a bit about BroodWar but am at a low enough skill level that playing against me won't just be getting murdered for months.

iccup is filled with noobs really. lets be honest the level isnt that great there. so if you have decent mechanics at all from playing other rts games and can follow and utilize build orders, its a good start, but youll soon be looking to advance to fish to play with the real challenge

This is a thing with older games and windows vista or 7. The reason most new games keep stuff like save files in *My games" is because programs aren't allowed to change stuff in "My programs" by default. Since most pre vista keep save files in their "my programs" folder, you usually need to run them as an administrator.

Concerning the OP - i don't play BW, i just watch it. If you're up when the final starts airing, look on the right side of the web page and streams will be listed there.

LOL this is such nonsense. Other RTS games dont require mechanics the same way BW does so no player is gonna be able to apply there "skills" from other rts to bw and instantly be half decent.

ICCUP is best place to start. If you search for a bit you might be able to find some other players that just recently switched over from sc2 since there is a minor surge of these sorts of people.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

DeJaVu has some decent VODs in English.

http://www.youtube.com/user/DejaVu119

Artosis had a few VODs and the earlier Day9 Dailies were really well done.

And of course TSL 1 VODs http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=72586

TSL 2 VODs http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=111470

To address your want for an english stream, I recommend just watching with the korean commentators (They really hype things up; I don't know how sc2 players can watch with english commentators) and then just open up the stream chat. You can most likely ask questions about the game in there, since the mods are (decently) nice.

Iccup is the best place to learn. You'll play against better players in competitive maps than on bnet ladder, which is pretty much broken. Don't be discouraged if you lose your first 20 games or so though. I went 0-16 a few a years ago before I got my first win, but it was well worth it

Once you improve, you should probably try fish server. I haven't played on it, but the skill level is much higher and it's way more active because of Koreans.

This is not true. BGH is still very much alive on US EAST. I recently started playing there again because its getting very difficult to get games on ICCUP. There is still a fuckton of people playing BGH on US EAST.

iCCup is pretty tricky, I recommend

1. playing the campaign. It's not only awesome but it'll cover basic mechanics
2. Play a few games on b.net. It's emptier than iccup in terms of 1v1 games but the overall level is lower.

Even D level iccup players generally have a sense of builds and mechanics. Watch some progames too!
