I'm going to try to attend/play the next Code A qualifiers, which I believe is in November?
I will be in Korea until December, so it should be ok.
However, this means... I actually have to start practicing seriously...
Right now, as all of you will ask, I am a Masters Protoss player on the NA server... I don't have a Korean account yet, as I don't have my alien registration card yet. (I will get it after the 19th of Sept...) However, I do know some Koreans that have accounts, one is diamond, maybe I'll ask to use his.
I am here for university, so studies will come first. Also, I don't want to spend my study abroad time only playing Starcraft, so I will go drinking and hang out with pretty Korean girls. Essentially, I will practice, but I'm not going to do a grueling practice regimen. If I am good enough to compete with only a few hours of practice a day, so be it. But, as I've heard on SOTG and the "countless" other progamer threads, if you can't do it with a few hours a day, you can't do it at all.
That being said, I will absolutely need to streamline my practice and maximize my efficiency. I'm not sure if I know how to practice yet... I don't have any concrete practice partners yet... So. TL.
If any of you are serious, and want to help me (possibly) qualify for Code A, PM me. I'll add you on Skype, and hopefully we can rock out games and strategy. High Masters/GM would be awesome. I don't care if I lose EVERY game. I need to get better.
Things to do:
Buy a keyboard (T.T I've been playing on my laptop as long as I can remember, and I'm used to my F keys being REALLY close. Right above the numbers. So I'll go shopping this weekend perhaps for a slim keyboard with close F keys. I use a wireless mouse, and I don't think I need a new one.)
I'm at about rank 50 in my division... I want to get top 16 by the end of the month. I'm hovering pretty high on my bonus pool I believe, since I didn't play during Chuseok and the weekend before...
If I get a Korean account... I don't know, I'll plan a new agenda, as that changes things.
After chatting with my friend about trying to qualify for Code A, he told me that I either have to execute the metagame better than anyone else, or break the metagame. I'm planning on breaking it, since i know most of the Koreans will have cleaner, crisper, more refined execution and mechanics. I need to practice new strategies, while being prepared to counter the current metagame. This is my goal.
I'm already experimenting with heavy warp prism use vs Z with varied success depending on how I execute my opener T.T I REALLY need help with PvP. TvP is essentially if I can defend a 1-1-1. And... I don't quite have a grasp on defending the 1-1-1.
Well anyway, study, socialize, practice.
I'll try to be posting in the SC2 Strategy to get help on things I absolutely need help with, but is there a better way to go about refining my play without actually paying for coaching?
Thanks TL~~
(Also, help pick the new TeSPA shirt design!) http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/tespa/shirtcontestvote.html You don't have to vote for my design, but if you think it's sexy, go ahead. ^^

I would recommend getting a korean account (or taiwanese 42$ and its same server as korea now) as soon as possible imo so that you can see how the koreans play. You may have latency but it would be good if you knew how to deal with their all ins and stuff and you'll see how much more solid they are. I would recommend it anyway but good luck hope you do well!

Uh.. I'm in Korea. I'm waiting on my Alien Registration card... As in the OP.

Yea start playing on the Kr server as soon as you can. I was a rank 1 masters toss on Na and was getting destroyed @ diamond from all the timings and pressure they put on.
Try to read into as many replays or streams from guys like Hero/Mc/Huk/Puzzle when they stream to pick up on good habits/responses. Kr server for a toss is hell and the zergs and masters ZvP there makes Na zergs look terrible.
Also ghost timings are really good.
|
Kind of shocked you play on a laptop keyboard and a wireless mouse and can actually do well - I guess it's just whatever you are used to. If you are really serious, you might consider a proper gaming mouse (wired) and a decent keyboard, mech if you can afford it. It won't make you instantly GM level or anything but every little bit of control will help.
edit - Good luck man, I would suggest LOTS of KR ladder practice!
|
Why don't you just buy a Taiwan accout? same server. GL
Keyboard: Get DT-35? Cost 30$??
|
If you have that little time to prepare, I'd recommend getting a few cheese builds set up. Something like a void-ray 4 gate or some sort of fast tech play would be good. Or even the fake 3 gate expo into 5 warpgate allin.
|
I use this cherry keyboard which has really close f1 keys and is mechanical, however the key spacing gets taking used too.

Ah i misread the beginning thought you were going there in october until december :D.

Wish you the best of luck, at the minimum I hope you really enjoy yourself. Also you will prolly improve

try out histors pvt build, it helps stop the 1-1-1 greatly

Hopefully there will be some gimmicky way for you to take advantage of the upcoming patch. Not saying its impossible for you to make it on skill alone but just wishing you the best of luck! glhf

Tyler's 1 gate 3 zealot timing vs Zerg + Show Spoiler + with a follow-up attack to take out the Z natural.

Link link?
I'm gonna try polish my overall gameplay on KR ladder, then work out strategies on NA ladder, I think.

Met you on ladder last night. Good luck in Code A!
Here's two builds you should know in PvT for breaking gasless FEs
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=264470 (Hister's Immortal style) http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=233968 (Alej's Warp Prism 4 gate)
Both of these builds will be buffed in the next patch and are "breaking" the metagame in a sense, which is what I see you are looking for.
Since the Koreans you'll meet in Code A will most likely have better mechanics, strong early timing pushes will suit your style best as you most likely won't be able to compete with the micro/macro in the late game.

Thanks for the builds~~ I'm kind of praying that the new patch goes through before qualifiers, so it'll be a little bit of an edge I guess?

Don't forget 'an owl, 'Arry!
On a serious note though, best of luck to your in the Code A qualifiers, go tear shit up and win Code S for us k?
|
You should buy a noppoo choc mini. It's a really compact mechanical keyboard.
|
I'm trying to get a keyboard that is easily accessible from Korea, since I don't want to pay millions of dollars in shipping. There's a tech store on campus, I'll have to look to see if they have slim keyboards there... :o

How did your qualifiers run go by the way? Play/beat any notables?
|
The qualifiers will be after GSL October is over.

I didn't play them yet!~~ Next next month I think. ~~

Good luck, I'm sure it'd be a fun experience either way.

Apparently you have to be born in 1991 to play SC2 online. T.T I think Blizzard Support said I could buy it in a Lotte Mart though, but I'll have to wait till I go to Seoul again... And from what I hear it's near impossible to find retail box sets. T.T
Good news though, I just got xsplit and streaming will be possible... not sure if I should do it or not though. :o
|
If your computer can handle it, streaming is a great way to interact with community members who might be able to positively critique your play. If anything, it won't hurt and you'll get to be more social with TL members ^^
That's such an obnoxious situation to be in in terms of getting SC2 over there >_< Hope you get it soon so you can practice hard!

Regarding streaming, I've done some practice recording and the quality is pretty good, but... audio wise.
I'm wondering if I should talk, or if I should just play music.

Yayyy finally got a Korean account with the help of my roommate. However, it'll be a 2 hour wait to download... But I'm so excited!! Korean ladder!!~~

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I'm definitely going to play some warm up games on NA before I jump into my placements ^^
Thank you for your support haha<3

Maybe it's just me, but Korean ladder is fcking hard. I just played placements, won 4, lost 1. I lost to a Silver player in a PvP. He went 3-gate robo and defended my 4-gate with some amazing micro...
Yay Gold league. T.T

I have faith in yoooouuuuuu! Platinum is just around the corner
GLHF

So far I'm 8-1 and just beat a diamond. Promotion soon? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
The one loss from the placements.

I'm in Platinum now. :o
14-4 on ladder right now. Diamonds aren't that scary ^^
|
platinum already what the hell :o gogo code A, you could present the community team "TL.net blog-section" you would be the first sc player next to the pro-posting team :D
gl with sc
how are the other things going, what about girls?

I just lost two games I shouldn't have, so I'm kinda disappointed with myself. Hopefully losing against Diamonds doesn't affect my MMR too much. Girls... I met a Korean girl here. We're kinda together but not officially? So yeah.
It would be amazing if I could make it into Code A, but I doubt it. My goal is to not get 0-2ed or... 0-1? in the prelims. ^^

yeah I wouldn't expect to much when going for code A, competition is so tough by now. but you seem to be pretty good so it would be fun to participate in the prelims. just remember the mistakes you made and you won't make them again too often, but I guess I don't need to tell you this you're obviously better than me :D
great to keep hearing from you btw

Well... she liked me from around the first day, or was attracted to me rather, but I didn't know that until maybe a few weeks in. I always thought she was cute. We started hanging out, and formed a kind of group (my roommate, me, her, her roommate, and a few other people)... and then we hung out more, drank together etc. Talked a lot, then she took me out to a movie after she lost a bet we had. Then a few nights after we were outside on a bench just talking. Then I told her 좋아합니다 and we were already like hugging because it was damn cold, and then I pulled her in and we kissed. But we're not officially together yet.

I wouldn't recommend getting a new mouse it will take some time to re-adjust, a new keyboard might be a good idea though.

I'm not getting a new mouse, my wireless laser is fine. I have yet to go keybaord shopping, but it's kind of hard to find a keyboard with close F-keys that doesn't cost a million dollars to ship here. I guess I'll try to get a DT-35 and see if I get used to it?

I hope you do realise, that you can't just "break" the metagame?

I'm not banking on it, but it's a better mindset than trying to beat the Koreans at "their own game" per se. It's more to force me to think outside of the box and try and get some fresh strategies that possibly haven't been seen much. Make sense?

Mizu check your pms, i linked you to a pretty sweet mechanical gaming keyboard that might just be the perfect fit for your needs. Good luck in code a!

Player... of SCII!~ ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
So far I've been impressing myself on ladder, which is a good thing. Haha. I just defended a cannon rush, and he went into a turtle plus hidden expo with mass VR. But, I went blink stalker. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Then, TvP, close pos on Shattered, my probe killed 2 scvs, both building the rax, so I didn't have to worry about any kind of 2 rax, so I went for a 1-gate-robo nexus, scouted with my obs, pushed with 4 zeals, 4 sentries, a stalker and 4 immortals. He GGd when I threw down perfect forcefields. ^^
(They were in diamond)
Currently: 20-7 :o
