Do they close out each ladder season? I've been playing for a while and getting matched up v. GMs occasionally. I'd like to get ranked in that ladder. I only really started playing after it was established. Do you have to play a ton the first few weeks of ladder or something? Is it impossible for me to realistically get playing ~10 games a week?

At your current point level it requires about 250 more visible points (as gm promotion appears to be visible point related unless you've been in GM before or have absurdly high mmr).

Basically it's a pain in the ass b/c it's very hard to drop out of GM.

p.s. You gave away too much info in your post so I found your profile :D (you're pretty red or otherwise one of a small few).

you just have to be in the top 200 right when they put people in gm and after that you can only get gm after someone drops out from lack of playing

1050 points seems kind of low to be matched up with GM, but if your MMR is gm level you just need to wait until someone else drops out of GM and try and finish a game before someone else who is in GM mmr range does so you can get promoted.

it takes a lot of time, it's extremely hard if it's not the beginning of the season, even with a 70% win rate vs GMs
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Yes, the system makes no sense. You can win 100 games in a row and never get promoted to GM. Someone in GM has to not play for about 2 weeks (0 games played) for you to get promomted (after winning nonstop for 100 games)

Its not like logical other ladders where if you win a lot you get more points.

But for a more "empirical" answer, there's a smurf account that a number of pretty well ranked people on known teams have played on, which started on in masters before becoming a communal smurf. Shit's still not in GM after something like 300-400 games even though everyone who plays on the account is ranked pretty high in GM.

System's just retarded, so just practice without giving a shit about GM. If you're lucky you'll get in one day.

Did you seriously edit out your name? That's a tad pretentious. This isn't a poker forum, lol.

As to your question, just keep playing a lot(and winning) and next season you might get in.

Visible points does not relate at all to facing GM. It's 100% mmr. But if you completely burned through your bonus pool and were playing actively, I'd say right now, 1300 points and higher master players are pretty indistinguishable from low GM players.

Nothing wrong with wanting to keep his anonymity

Getting into GM you just have to ladder hard at the start of the season, and because of what it takes to drop out once the top 200 are placed, you're going to have a hard time to get in afterwards :<

Laddering hard at the end of the season is actually better. All else equal, grinding to the highest possible mmr and trying to get a spot held for you at the beginning of the season is much better than trying to pass the number of players that still have spots available before they take them, meanwhile the players that have spots are already getting in after one game.

Try to secure top5 in masters league or have 70-80% win rate don't get me wrong it's freaking hard =P

my mmr is quite good i play people like idra sheth etc but u still need to secure that top5 in masters league overall and then wait for someone to get demoted but again someone with 70-80% win ratio might be ahead of you

Not true. Both myself and a friend were in the top150 when GM rolled over this season and neither of us got GM. Meanwhile GM fills up with low rank players and not so great players.

So for the OP, it takes some luck, and high mmr =)

Unless you mean top 200 MMR at the time, which theres no way to tell what your position is so /shrug.

Lol you don't need a top5 in masters overall at all.. either you have the MMR or you don't. And there's no way you can discern this based on win/loss, points, or even current league. You should know this by now desrow ^^

I'm gm, RevPinky. It was sad to say, but i think i only had to play 15-20 games to get promoted back into gm from last season. My MMR is high, but I agree, high masters is indistinguishable from 100-200 ranking...I think I'm at 130. GL on your quest for GM; just remember once you're there its pretty much for good

yeah I feel players who've played consistently since season 1 have such a huge advantage in terms of getting into GM. I'm top 50 GM and there are tons of high masters players way better than me but I've just been playing consistently since release so my MMR got high enough and stays high enough that I stay in GM easily.

Would be nice to have a GM revamp tbh. What we have nice is kind of bleh, there is enough under deserving GM's of this "top200" position.

Maybe if GM were to be re-evaluated every 2-3 weeks or something, allowing for the non-gm's to still have motive to get in beyond "Man I hope some GM goes inactive and booted so I can get in because on day X I wasn't top 200 in blizzards eyes".

Just my opinion. It seems pretty random to me in all honesty, and I can't say I'm too happy with it.

What a brag blog. Not because of the GM stuff, but because every Maynard blog is by definition a brag blog.

Stream for us old war2/vanilla sc players! I never imagined 10+ years ago it would be possible to see someone like Maynard play.
