Basically it's a pain in the ass b/c it's very hard to drop out of GM. p.s. You gave away too much info in your post so I found your profile :D (you're pretty red or otherwise one of a small few). | ||

But for a more "empirical" answer, there's a smurf account that a number of pretty well ranked people on known teams have played on, which started on in masters before becoming a communal smurf. Shit's still not in GM after something like 300-400 games even though everyone who plays on the account is ranked pretty high in GM. System's just retarded, so just practice without giving a shit about GM. If you're lucky you'll get in one day. | ||

All else equal, grinding to the highest possible mmr and trying to get a spot held for you at the beginning of the season is much better than trying to pass the number of players that still have spots available before they take them, meanwhile the players that have spots are already getting in after one game. | ||
