This blog is about something which is a very rare occasion for me, growing up as a very T-shirt + Jeans person. That something was a shopping trip with my Brother and his Girlfriend, and a piece of clothing I bought that day.
The garment that I purchased was a light jacket with faded green colour, from a Canadian big box store called The Bay. It was originally priced at $150 which is a bit steep for me, but it was on a 50% off spring wear rack so I decided to grab it after much deliberation. I brought it up to the till and the total came out to $150-the first fail. The cashier wasn't to keen on my protests of not paying the full price, but she changed her mind after I showed her the five other jackets of the same kind on the 50% off rack. We went home after about 45 minutes of hopping between stores, and eventually I took a look on my new jacket.
That's when I saw this:

For those who don't now, that is a security tag which is intended to prevent theft. From what I've seen, they normally just set off an alarm as you exit/enter a store, and you have to get an employee to use a device they have for removing it. It happens all the time in malls due to incompetence/absent mindedness of employees.
I was really surprised to see that on there, as I had to have gone through at least 10 security sensors in and out of stores after I bought the thing, and nothing was set off.I figure I'd just try and use some gosu micro to remove it, but then I read the words on the front. That's when I realized the true intent of this device. From what can see it wasn't meant to set off the sensors at all.

In the back of this infernal contraption is a pair of glass tubes filled with yellow and blue dye. On the front of it reads "This tag will burst by use of force. Permanent Dye sprays out." Along with a disclaimer.
Anyway, it isn't really a big deal. I kept the receipt, and the store that I bought it from is only a 40 minute walk from my place, and so I shall hie hence to said shoppe, and politely ask the nearest employee to remove it for me.
Keep this tale in mind next time you go out shopping, or you too will have to live with a minor inconvenience such as this, and please don't take it out on the other employees if it does happen to you.
Edit: WOW MORE FAIL! Yes I now know it's merchandise, not merchandice.
