Hey everyone, it's that time again! That's right, another MLG is upon us and here I sit once again in a dirty airport, waiting to board my connecting flight. MLG Raleigh has received notably less hype than the other events this year. The Korean novelty may be wearing off now that North American teams are forced to consider the following: "Do we really want to send six people across the country to get slaughtered?" Considering first prize is still only $5,000 and is nigh unattainable, I'd wager that most teams will either get with the program and spend even more money filling their rosters with Korean outliers, send their existing mediocre players to Korea to train, or just stop attending events altogether.
This MLG has special significance for me. Remember a year ago when I packed up my car and blogged my trip? Probably not because I was nobody then, just a dude with a camera that lucked into a press pass. I didn't know what I was doing, I just hoped for the best. Many of my fondest SC2 memories occured at Raleigh 2010, meeting all these awesome people in the flesh and discovering a new recurring event that I knew I'd never want to miss.
Last time it was a 6 hour drive, this time it's a full day of flying on three separate airplanes across the country. This is the farthest I've ever traveled to an event, thanks to mt coincidental timing of moving to the west coast and starting work at IGN. I make the trip with a huge grin on my face, knowing that soon I'll be right there in the action once again, surrounded by friends and colleagues, watching history (irrelevant history to the masses, but important to us) unfold once again. The storylines make the event, not the games themselves. If two AI scripts fought a 50-minute epic on Xel'Naga Caverns 100 times, would anybody watch it? Hell no.
It's the people. IdrA. HuK. Tyler. Geoff. "The Koreans" that we learn to love or hate. They are all magnificent, a wealth of intellect, resolve, humor, and sometimes anger, disappointment, and despair. I can't keep myself from watching it all like an interactive soap opera.
Even though I do expect this MLG to be perhaps less exciting than the other season stops, I am still very excited to participate. League of Legends has really turned my head recently, and I'm very curious about how they represent themselves in person. I'm also really excited for Chick-Fil-A. I lived in walking distance of one in South Carolina, but since I've moved to San Francisco I've forgotten what Heaven tastes like and need a reminder.
I could keep writing but I need to save some of it for the memoirs.
if you're attending the event this weekend, please don't hesitate to come say hi. I like meeting new people! I'll try to get an update in tonight and stick with it every time I hit the media room.

Chick-Fil-A over In n' Out? What blasphemy is this...

I remember meeting you josh at MLG Raleigh 2010, you were simply just a guy with a camera at the time. Looking just to produce content and networking. A guy who was easy to approach and talk to , even at the last mlg i went to (anaheim) I find my self fortunate to have met you when you were just starting out, and then to meet you again when you have found success in following your passion. I think, of most media related people i've met while at MLG, you are the one i look forward to see succeeding and rising above the rest. You are definitively not ruining esports
Hopefully i'll see you in orlando!

Mother fucking Joshy!!!!!
I land tomorrow bro, we need to hang out like usual! I don't remember, do you have my #?

Wish I could go, but the only person I can stay with is going to be out of town this weekend.
Have fun, Chic-fil-A is amazing. Also consider trying Zaxby's if you don't have that where you live, someone else suggested it too, it's really good.

I'm here now at the media room at Raleigh sitting with Waxangel and Vincere, uploading videos and discussing the event. Earlier this morning I got to interview Noblesse and DongRaeGu from coL.MVP and also one Jedi-robe-clad FXO.qxc. Those videos will be coming just as soon as the uploads can finish! (Which may be a while...)
The SC2 stage seems to have less chairs than previous iterations of MLG, but I can see why with less competitors making it out as well. Sixjax sent zero of their players, mOoNan and qxc are the only FXO reps, and they will be headed back to school after MLG. I'm curious to see how the Mortal Kombat, League of Legends, and Gears of War 3 exhibitions are received.
Right now warmups are going on but the action still won't begin for a couple more hours so I'll sit here uploading what I can!
