A while ago (back before Spanishiwa was just breaking out), I left SC2 for LoL. This was mostly caused by a lot of pressure from my friends to come over to it. I tried convincing them for quite a long time that Starcraft 2 was still awesome, we had been playing it since release. This went on for a month, where I would get to play 3 games of SC2, then my friends dragged me on to LoL once again. Over time, I played less and less of SC2, because I had less and less time, and my friends were getting more and more persistent. Finally, I just stopped playing after a very frustrating game.
I was mid-diamond at the time, and my match history tells me it was 14 weeks ago. It was on Tal’darim Altar, and I was excited for a good macro match, nonetheless, I went my standard 2 gate + robo in to expand that’s quite reactive anyway, just in case he was trying something funky. Anyway, I scout and find that my Terran opponent was 2 raxing, and then I realised, I was screwed. Why? I just had to look at the choke of my base to see that a forcefield delay (1 -> another -> big enough force to hold), would not work, as the choke to my base was 2 forcefields wide. Nonetheless, I attempt to press on, with a rushed 2 sentries, using all my chronoboosts on them, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get that last sentry out in time for the 2 forcefields and the dude demolished my base over with the scvs and marines. I was pissed to say the least, as I was expecting a good solid macro match typical to the map, and this dude gets a 33% chance that he got me right there and I was still 2 seconds from holding. Yet, the most frustrating thing was that he said: “Sorry, it’s the only thing I can do.” I was furious that someone could get to the same level as me, working for ~8 months on this game (casually and hardcore mode), yet he could just scv marine all-in every single game and win in diamond from sheer luck. So I never came back, and just focused on playing LoL so I could get better then my friends.
Well, LoL is not fun anymore, mostly because retards are retards and a loss doesn’t feel the same way in LoL as it does in SC2. You can do things the best out of anyone in the game, but realise your bottom lane is feeding 0/8/0, and you know it’s GG from there. Mostly I’m just playing through the motions trying to get better so it’s more enjoyable to play, but it’s not working. I want to come back to SC2, where losing can only be your fault and improvement is always in reach, without any outside factors, no luck of the draw, just you against your opponent.
Finally, what’s changed in the world of SC2 since I’ve been gone. It appears that the 1/1/1 is doing well against ‘Toss in PvT, who popularized it, what does it look like? I just want to get back in to the game that I know I’ll love as soon as possible, so I can get to loving it again, so if Tl can help me get in to it that much quicker, I’ll be very grateful.
