Hello TL.
So yesterday I wrote a big wall of text in a sudden inspiration. It was a melancholic night, away from my sweetheart and friends, in my decaying homeland where I have little to no social life at all. But I got logged off TL so I tried to copy-paste the book I had just written, for safety purposes.
Little did I know that CTRL+W (right next to CTRL+A, the "select all" shortcut)... closes the tab without warning. F you, Google Chrome. F you. I guess that as a consequence you will not see my useless, self-centered rant about how becoming an adult feels, dreams, expectations, fears. But damn, it was such an incredible irony, I mean, you pour your heart in this little window, try to share your emotions through all this wire, this LCD screen and this half-broken keyboard... and your web browser just erases it. Back to the realities of the virtual world! Useless to say that the mood changed quite a bit, I turned off the music and went to bed.
(You know, it was similar to those drunken moments when you sit by yourself at a party, outside, enjoying the beauty of the night, thinking about your life and your loved ones, night-dreaming... when an annoying acquaintance appears shouting that you're a pussy, shoves a vodka bottle in your face and proceeds to throw up next to the chair you were sitting on. This guy is Google Chrome.)
Well this is quite a lame first post for my blog but everyone knows that the first time isn't exactly the best time, right? And I really need to vent. I'm so angry that I'm going to use Yahoo search today. Maybe even Bing if I have a bad day.
Ps: you thought I wasn't going to talk about Huk, but there, I said it, "Huk". Bye Huk.

You know if you reload the tab through the recently closed part you text comes back with it right?

CTRL+W also closes the current tab in Firefox. I'm not sure about IE or Safari though.
|
Wait... how do you do that? Does it still work if you have a billion tabs opened (I browse the web like a baller so I watch ten things at once.)?

um also, that feature of ctrl+w is also used on firefox and IE. I think opera as well. Not sure at work can't check. I know for opera though there's a handy ctrl+z option :D but i think the other browsers also have a recentl yclosed option as well as the poster above me mentioned.

It's usually in History --> Recently closed tabs
It brings up a list of the 10 most recently closed tabs; so as long as you don't close an additional 10 more tabs after your accidental closure, you should be fine and be able to recover your work.

Nice aim, bro... All I can really say. Unless you're using an odd layout?

Shift-Ctrl-T will also do the trick.

I love Ctrl-W feature, makes browsing so much easier. Also I like Ctrl-Shift-T which will reopen your last closed tab (if you pressed this when you closed your tab, you would have your text back).
Though once I lost a loooong post because instead of pressing Ctrl-Shift-T to reopen my last closed tab, I pressed Ctrl-Shift-R which got interpreted as Ctrl-R and refreshed my current page .

If you reopen the tab, doesn't it still have the data? It does for me.
|
lol me too. you can right click on the tab bar -> reopen closed tab. it doesnt make google a bitch to have a short cut for that ;p

Recently closed limit is more than 10, but if there is a limit and you want to save all of them, then just split them into two separate windows and then close them. Then your two most recently closed with show 15 tabs and 11 tabs for example and you will get them all back in two windows.
|
Oh man, I've been there. I wasn't able to recover my tab either.

ctrl w closes many applications bro
I used to scam people in runescape back in the day by saying "double your gold by dropping your inventory, click out of the applet, and press ctrl-w rapidly"

Well you could say so, because I'm usually on an AZERTY so I often hit Q on the QWERTY keyboards by mistake. So the first mistake was to go for the Q which is my usual A, and then to miss by a few millimeters.
But yeah I'm facepalming pretty hard right now. And about CTRL W in other browsers, don't they show a popup which asks you if you really want to leave your current work?
Oh well I hope that my fail at least made your brain smile a little.

All browsers with tabs have this feature...
|
ctrl+shift+t reopens closed tabs

They taught you in school/elsewhere to save your progress when writing papers
atleast mine did ;O
|
But it wasn't a paper, I never write blogs or anything, I was just browsing TL with a weird mood and started writing this off the top of my head. I'd never write a paper on a web browser!
Also, I skipped all "technology" classes because they were lame as hell. : )
