Because the site is Teamliquid and not EG.

The name of this website has become somewhat of a misnomer at this point. I'm pretty sure most EG fans tune into TL to get their SC2 fix.

And TL hardly gets players from other teams. Sheth is the only one whom I know was on another team before, and that was only an announcement.

Nony was on eSTRO previously. So funny to see so many fanboys up set right now. FXO has been throwing around money in this scene for awhile, getting fou and running all these tournaments, making a team house etc., yet no mention of them throwing money around. EG signs a high profile player and now it's "OMFG EG JUST THROWING MONEY AT EVERYYYYTHING ARWRSDFLLL"

Seems like everyone is just out to troll EG for doing whats best for EG. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

1) Tyler on eSTRO was how long ago? Check your calender bro.
2) FXO partnering up with fOu is a partnership like TL-oGs. Can't tell how that relates to this situation.
3) If EG announced they were setting up a team house without all this hype, I doubt people are going to be angry.
4) EG did spend a crapload of money to sign Huk. And I mean a lot.

1) Most players were on previous clans teams prior to TL.
2) fou is recognized as FXO now. Doesn't seem like TL-ogs to me. Relates because everyone is screaming about EG just throwing money at stuff. Basically everyone loves to hate EG for no fucking reason.
3) i don't know wtf your talking about
4) Yes they probably did. I don't doubt that. I could careless how much they paid him. This is my point. No one should care. Contracts expire. Players move to other teams. Part of life. "Change" suppose to be good fyi.

1) Clan, not team bro. And not a cornerstone of that team.
2) fOu is not FXO. fOu is still fOu. They are just fOu-FXO for foreign tournaments I think. No one bought anyone else.
3) "So funny to see so many fanboys up set right now. FXO has been throwing around money in this scene for awhile, getting fou and running all these tournaments, making a team house etc" I'm just saying setting up a team house vs. a major player signing is not the same.
4) Change should be good. Huk will get more money. But training partners/environment will be a lot worse.
2) is incorrect. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/FOu

They have lots of sponsors, most notably Intel. They sponsor lots of progamers besides sc2 ones and they have been around for awhile.

Don't forget that while you hear Kingston HyperX, Kingston overall as a brand isn't exactly small either. Monster Energy, who also do various forms of offroad racing and extreme sports...

Big name sponsors and good business sense. High visibility, tons of content produced, these are the things that matter to sponsors.

In retrospect this whole publicity stunt I thought was quite stupid. This was clearly a sensitive issue for TL, there was no need to blow out this situation like that and create so much hype.

Yah, let's hope TL gets some more sponsors or run more ads. I mean, it's a pretty established community with great traffic flow.

EG made this shit exciting, not depressing or heart-wrenching.

You mean they made a countdown timer that told you how long you had to wait until your favourite SC2 team's star player leaves the team to chase the bucks, hunkering down with teenage guy who betrayed his mentor, friends and team and premature ejac-GG IdrA?

So exciting yo.

I figured it was Huk halfway through. But then I had to wait another 15 hours for the actual truth.

Seems like everyone is just out to troll EG for doing whats best for EG. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I was on Liquid while I was at eSTRO. In SC:BW, there were teams and clans. Teams were sponsored and clans were groups of friends. Most SC:BW progamers have a clan and even use their clan tag when playing. It's a part of their ID. Shield, By, fOu, Sea, Nal, gm, etc. These clans are exclusive to each other, but not exclusive to the pro teams. With the release of SC2, Liquid changed from clan to team. I had left eSTRO long ago and started playing an entirely different game.

No one really developed me as a player except myself. I was already a really good player when I joined Liquid and eSTRO. But that's not to say Liquid picked me up like EG is picking HuK up, or even like how Liquid picked up HuK a year ago. When I joined it for SC:BW, Liquid was inactive as a clan and had never really been a team. I wanted to make Liquid my social home, and have allegiances to a non-Korean clan while I was in Korea, so I was happy to be on Liquid while at eSTRO. I got offered to join the best (imo) and my favorite Korean clan, Shield, but I was like nahhh I'ma represent Liquid. I quit SC:BW and eSTRO, but you don't ever really quit a clan unless you join another one, so I remained Liquid as an inactive member. Then I came back to SC:BW for TSL2, right before SC2 beta came out, and of course I wore a Liquid tag again since I never left it. But that's nothing like sponsored teams like we have now. After TSL2, lots of SC2 teams were forming, and I knew I needed a sponsor to compete in SC2, and Nazgul did an excellent job of elevating Liquid from a mostly inactive clan to one of the best sponsored teams on the scene, so of course I stayed on board.
"Fucking up is part of it. If you can't fail, you have to always win. And I don't think you can always win." Elliott Smith ---------- Yet no sudden rage darkened his face, and his eyes were calm as they studied her. Then he smiled. 'Witness.'

how does this change anything for you as a spectator watching huk play? I don't understand. The only league this actually affects from a spectator POV is like the GCPL. As for whether this affects Huk's performance we'll all have to wait and see. Starcraft isn't a team sport, I have no idea why this trade would evoke any feelings from spectators.

EG is a very business oriented team they put a lot of effort into cultivating sponsors and promoting their sponsors and getting them a lot of views. While this leads to some discontent with some members in the esports community feeling that they are too ruthless and overly focused on cash it has the upside of giving them the resources needed to aquire players, form team houses, run multiple leagues and so on.

Sure there was it got them a ton of hype and views which is what they want as it pleases their sponsors. They aren't in this to take care of the sensitivity of TLs fans, they are in it to get themselves tons of brand recognition and views so that they can keep their sponsors happy and acquire new ones.

I don't think it's just that EG is throwing money around. If anything, FXO has been doing that even more; buying a whole Korean team? They just handle themselves differently.
It's not like I'll boycott anything they do, I'm just not a fan (of the players or the organization).

EG ran a very outrageously successful viral marketing campaign. One that is unprecedented in esports history. Regardless of what you feel about it, you have to hand it to their business/marketing savvy.

Just as I said when the whole Incontrol - SotG - EG drama came out, it really makes me sad when something I love starts shifting into a strictly business direction, and it seems to me it wont bring anything good to the scene.

Sure It's nice to know that the top players can sustain them selves and fly around the world, but when you start caring only for who's the highest bidder and start displacing glory/fame whit money as your motivation to improve, in my opinion it loses It's charm.

I wish all the best to HuK, he was first players I really looked up to, ever since I first saw him take down MLG 1 year ago, but what I saw than in that kid is now tainted, because from now on, when I look in his eyes, I don't think I'l see passion and fire, just rolling dollar bills, but hey, that's just me.

I'l still cheer for him in Korea, he's still the best forigner but if he find's him self across the monitor of any liquid or oGs member (well even SlyerS or TSL) I'm going to cheer for the other guy, because he is part of an corporation, not a team.

GL GG and HF EG.HuK, and Liquid'Huk you will be missed.
So, are you a pessimist? - On my better days. Are you a nihilist? - Not as much as I should be.

Precisely the reason I'm more inclined towards TL than EG. Philosophies are different. EG is a company, a very profitable and marketable company for sure. But TL still has more swaying power.

One point that seemly everyone overlooked is the very distressing fact that another team outbid TeamLiquid (especially when Huk is willing to accept a lower offer). There's no logical reason why TL should be financially weaker than ANY starcraft pro team.

I hope TeamLiquid start chasing sponsors and take their business side more seriously, or this kind of event will reoccur.
Thank God and gunrun.

I would actually be quite disappointed in Nazgul and whoever else is running the TL team if that happened, to be honest.

As for the EG mystery thing, it wasn't handle in the best way. To make such a big fanfare about such a little thing comes off as just rubbing it in our collective face that they got one of TL's players. I know they've got to be proud of their acquisition but you've also got to be cognizant of your reputation and the effect that your announcement will have...
