So last year i finished my 1st year of college, going for 2nd year now when school starts back up pretty soon. During this time, i couldn't help notice all the people that have put on so much weight after their first year. I feel like if i can notice THEIR weight gains, they definitly put on at least 10lbs+

During high school, i never really gave a crap about what I ate, i ate whenever i want, and whatever i wanted all the time and never put on any pounds at all. However, during college, my habits would come and bite me in the ass.

In the beginning of the school year, i'd be fascinated with the amount/variety of food offered at the school. (My school's cafeteria is apparently much better than others). As a result my old home diet of

-Cereal for breakfast
-Cheeseburger/fries or a sandwhich for lunch
-Rice and home made food

Snack:fruits, and some chips

Turned into
-Breakfast: 2 boxes of cereal + milk + 1 cheese bagel with cream cheese
-Lunch: A quesedilla with chip/soda
-Dinner pasta with white sauce with chips/soda

Snacks include: cookies, chocolate/yogourt flavored pretzles, gummie worms...etc.

In addition with these high calorie fat foods i ate during college, i also attended quite a few parties 1st semester, and drinking tons of alcohol. Almost drinking hard 1-2 times a weak every weak for like a good month before i cut back...lol.

Needless to say, it didn't take long for me to notice my weight gains.

The most i think i've ever put on was an increase of about 10-15lbs(how stereotypical ._.)., and thats WITH me running cross country. On a side note though, even though i gained lbs in college, it was also the first time i started lifting.

However, as soon as i notice such a gain in weight, and a protrusion in my belly i quickly cut back and started watching what i eat. I also stopped going to all parties 2nd semester because i realized that wasn't really my thing, plus i lost my 5k scholarship by .01 GPA -_-....

So now i'm back at home, and after 1st year college, i've put on a total of 5lbs, but i believe its mostly muscle cuz it' also when i started lifting, and i lost my small developing gut that i had from college.

I'm trying to keep my good habits of running 5-6days a week, and lifting 3-4times a week when school starts back up, with eating healthy as well. I also began looking at nutrition information as much as possible now, i try to avoid processed foods as much as possible, i also try not eating high fructose corn syrup if it's labled 1st or 2nd in the ingredients, unless its ketchup or steaksauce. I hope to keep my good habits..

How much weight have u put on after high school?

Since I've left highschool, I've gained about 15 kilos. It's been almost 5 years though.
I attribute it to alcohol and my love for junk food!

Maybe one day I'll care enough to trim down a bit lol

I've put on about 30 pounds since graduation (15 months ago). Thankfully, it's mostly muscle. There's so much time to go to the gym in college! Take advantage of it while you can, working 50+ hours a week this summer has shown me just how little time there's going to be after school.

I have plans.

When I'm stressed out, go play some ITG or Pump it Up.

That'll control my fat for a while =P

(During highschool senior year, I think I gained about 10 pounds... and lost most of them during Summer when I played over 150+ rounds of Pump it Up, mostly lvl 17+)

Funny how I lost weight my freshman year of college.
Combination of stress, bad eating habit, sleeping habit, etc.
I hope I gain them through weight lifting though

I weighed about 135 lbs in high school, then probably 120-125 during university, then back up to 135 now. Always been a lean/skinny guy, but man during university never had a "regular eating habit." Didn't really have the time or energy to hit the gym (~35 hours classes a week + ~35 hours off-campus studying time + part time job). Now that I'm done university though, back into regular hours and I think I'll aim to go up to 140-145 to be in the healthy range for my height.

im about to enter my 1st year of college and im on my school's meal plan. ive started to weightlifting and dieting (1 month into it) and im pretty scared about the school food heh.
make sure you're eating good (complex) carbs and staying away from bad (simple carbs). bad carbs like white bread, white rice, sugars, white potatoes, are fast digesting and cause an insulin spike and put your body in a fat-storing mode. also conflicts with hgh production i think, but im not too sure on that. a time when it's ok to eat bad carbs is after your workout though.

I didn't gain any noticeable weight as an undergrad... the dining hall closed at 7pm on weekends and I wasn't close to any food alternatives... also I tended to eat the same as I did at home.

When I and my peers first got to university in 2006 a great many of them ballooned. One girl I know gained probably 15-20 lbs. in the first 4 months. When I saw her in January I basically bluntly told her that she'd gained weight - I'm kind of honest like that. By second year she'd [green]lost it all[/greed], and she said my comments were an influencing factor. She's finished school now and back living at home, and she's never looked better.

For me personally I had trouble gaining weight in high school. I played hockey 20 hours per week. Come university I stopped hockey and only worked out sparingly, so I went from about 185 lbs. to 205-210 lbs. by about the same time, although at 6' 2" it distributes pretty well. In the same January that I saw that girl, I started going to the YMCA 3 times per week, doing a full body circuit. I went down to about 189 lbs, my ideal weight ever since, and I looked darn good. One of my old hockey mates saw me in February of 2008 at the gym, and I overheard him say I looked really fit.

Since then I've fluctuated between 190 lbs. to about 205 lbs, always cutting back whenever I broke the 200 barrier. I seem to lose a bit of weight whenever I live at school and gain it when I'm at home. Food costs money, and I'm a poor student.

Right now I'm sitting at 204, but I've been working out around 3 times per week all summer long. I'm more muscular than I ever was, and I've upped my weights. I wish I was a bit leaner (I was leaner and 190 lbs. in May, but I was pretty scrawny then - I hardly ate for about a week because I had an acute depressive episode.) I'm adding cardio to my in-between days to compensate - I biked 100km in two days just this week.

It's been a roller coaster for me... I actually lost weight in my first year because I was so stressed with dealing with work and commuting to school. TBH my diet in high school wasn't so great either, so I guess when my first year of college came around I was able to cut back completely on all the unhealthy snacks i would have, and instead opt for the nice tasty avocado smoothies in the area as a snack. But then I also did a daily ritual of cardio while watching anime so that really helped as well... if only I knew the importance of lifting back then..

Then I took a semester off and my body literally went to shit. I didn't want to take a semester off so I was pretty depressed and drank a lot on my own and abandoned my usual running routine. As much as you guys say cardio sucks, it's still beneficial to people who don't do any exercise at all. I must've gained like 15 lbs over those few months, and felt horrible. When I got back to school, I thought I would get back to my usual routine but I didn't and stagnated in my weight for the entire semester.

Only now, after a good visit to the TL health and fitness thread have I fixed the way I eat and exercise. I think I've lost about 2-3 good healthy pounds so far, and excitingly enough I think I've put on more muscle as well, especially in the core area which is awesome.

I know more people that have lost weight than gained weight. I dunno how people gain weight here, you gotta walk everywhere and it's pretty far from the residential colleges to main campus, it's a lot of walking. You gotta really over eat to put on pounds, I dunno, not really a problem I guess, everyone I see in classes aren't really over weight either.

I gained nearly 35 pounds last year. First semester this was due in part to muscle mass, but after Christmas I got lazy and stopped exercising. Also eating five or six meals a day probably didn't help. 125 to 160 for 5'8'' is pretty silly.

Thankfully summer helped. Back to muscle!

I went from 147 when I graduated high school to 147 three years later. Pretty drastic change, I know. I attribute it to the fact that I don't stuff my face when I eat and that I rock climb and/or run 3 times a week when it isn't freezing cold or raining.

I've been eating more healthy on my meal plan at school, and more protein especially, so I've lost weight. I've always run a lot, usually every other day, and I play a lot of soccer whenever I can. I'm 6' 3" and I went from 160 down to 155 (I'm way skinny ) I was really concerned at first because I feel like I'm scary skinny in the first place and I had been eating more (and expecting the "Freshman 15") but I look more muscular than I did before (as much as I can being a twig) and my abs look a lot nicer.

I blame the altitude change and the fact that there are hills that I have to walk up and down everywhere here in Utah, compared to the flatlands of Florida. When you have to walk everywhere, the slope of the terrain really makes a difference. Also, it helps that I am dating a girl who likes to play soccer with me--keeps me motivated :D

I've lost 30 pounds since entering college (mostly this past 6 months or so). Eating a super healthy diet and running 60-80 mpw will have that effect though.

I went from ~140 to 165 after my 1st year. In the summer I worked out/ran a lot and got down to 145.

I went from 145 to 160 after my 2nd year. So far this summer I've worked out/ran a lot and got down to 143 or so.

My goal is to not get over 150 after the school year =p.

lol it was sorta competitive, we compete in NAIA. I run like 5-6times a week, and lifted 3-4times a week back in 1st semester. Still gained fat... go figure :\

~25 lbs but my waist size is the same

Cut the soda/cookies, drink hard liquor instead of beer, cook your own food, and read up on nutrition (start here).

About to start my second year of university--during the first year/this summer I gained about 10 lbs from inactivity. I needed to gain that weight though, as I was right on the border of being "underweight" on the bmi chart for my height (I was 6' and about 138 lbs, aka ~1.82m and ~62.5 kilos). haven't ran in college (did cross country/track in high school).

Lost a few pounds (down to 125 from 130), though I'm trying to gain weight atm. Classes is ~1.5 hours of walking per day, plus more freedom means I'd rather study/play video games than eat.

Regular all-nighters also make you lose weight.

Bah, I went from 6'1" 180 pounds when I graduated high school to 6'3" 175 pounds my first year in college (the 5 pounds loss is most likely muscle as in high school I worked out fairly religiously for tennis but stopped while in college). But when I went off the school's meal plan I gained about 40 pounds over the next 1.5 years. I've only recently returned to regular exercise and clean eating (no more Chinese buffet every day for lunch also I think the excess alcohol may have contributed somewhat).

I'm 6'0 and I weighed about 165 at the start of college. (Third year now)
Last year (second year) I weighed 187 at my peak and I said this is enough and joined a jogging class / started watching what I ate.
I went back down to 172 and stopped running, and now I feel like I'm back to 178

So pretty much I have gained close to 15 lbs, but I plan on changing that at the start of the school year. I'll be hitting the gym after classes and picking up my daily runs again.
It's crazy how much weight you can lose when you're dedicated.

I'm 5'10.5

I lived in a suite with a kitchen (on campus) with a minimum meal plan during my freshman year, so I cooked a lot. I think I was pretty much always 165 throughout college, maybe 170 during my senior year, but that's because I was getting more serious with working out.

During grad school, I lifted a lot more seriously, and I hit 178 from bulking, then cut back to 165 in three months for spring break.

I'm 167 now. Waist went from 32 to 30.

I went to community college after high school so I think that allowed me to focus more on myself and my life path as opposed to getting swept up in traditional college experiences(for better or for worse.)

I went into college at 200 and was at 150 before I bulked up a little to 170, I'm 5'9". I've lived on my own though so I've kept a strict budget/I manage a grocery store so I've kept my wits about me when it comes to bad foods. But of course I used to get the munchies like every night post-weed or whatever so maybe I'm just lucky.

Was slightly overweight in high school from not doing any sports (math team lololol).

Ate anything I wanted to in college (2 Chipotle burritos per sitting being roughly the norm) and lost 5 lbs because I stayed active in a dance group.

Worked 50-60 hrs a week at a software company for 8 months and gained 20 lbs sitting at a desk during the day and drinking my sorrows away at night.

Quit job, back in school now (except dieting this time) and have lost 18 lbs in 3 months.

After high school I gained about 20 pounds, surprisingly most of it during summer when my parents just shove food down my throat. I've lost about 15 of that after working out over the last year, but probably also gained maybe 5 pounds of muscle so its all working out nicely. Still, I've got some more work ahead of me.

I lost about 10 pounds in the first year at college, due to the fact that I wasn't running track and field any more, so most of that was muscle mass. That and I also started dancing a lot so that helped considerably.

I'm now where I was at the end of high school, though unfortunately most of it isn't muscle mass anymore, so I've tried to start biking ~17miles 3-4 times a week to counteract my sedentary lifestyle, maybe it's working? Too early to tell yet.

I gained 10lbs my first year which I've been attributing to birth control pills. This year, I'm making my own food and buying my own food instead of letting my mother do my grocery shopping (I was an hour away from home). I'm back down to what I was at before I started university and I'm hoping I'll lose some this year. I've started going to the gym this summer and it's helping a bit but my problem is that I've had no appetite so my body's not been enjoying that.

I'm actually amazed I didn't gain more weight through college, especially after I stopped practicing tea kwon do after my sophomore year. Now a year after graduating, I've got about 20 extra pounds that I wouldn't mind getting rid of to bring me back to my natural weight. I really need to get back in the gym.

I was at 115 before and I was looking to pack on the pounds in the 6 weeks I could eat (I got a swipe card for the dining commons) at a uni. I came back and found that I dropped to 112 wtf. I was eating SOOO much in an attempt to build some muscle or even fat that I could cut.

In HS you probably played a sport (or two or four) and you probably ate at least decently every now and due to home cooking. You probably also didn't drink (or at least not as much as you might in college).

If you're playing a sport in college chances are you probably don't eat the shitty food like most other college students do (or at least not as much) because you've got to maintain your body for your sport.

It goes downhill from there...

I did all my own cooking in college but then again I had my own townhouse to myself. Considering the amount of pot I was smoking my first year I'm a little shocked I didn't gain any weight.

I thought Frosh 15 would happen to me but it didn't and even though I eat burgers and drink shakes every day I don't think I'm getting any fatter.

40 mins of biking weekdays, 30 minutes or less each day weekends this summer. My legs kill (the pain). But they look fine. If I had the choice though, I'd go with swimming.

I lost somewhere just shy of 50 pounds since graduation, and in the same position as you (just finished my first year). Best thing to do is drink alcohol fast and drink spirits, that way u get drunk quickly without having to take all the calories of beer ect. Eating healthy is just down to discipline, tell yourself what it makes you look like, and think about it's effects on your health and love life, just motivate yourself to keep to a sensible diet, i think the most important 2 things are not to snack (use fruit if you do) and to eat as small an evening meal as possible, as most people tend to consume half or more of their daily calories in their evening meal, out of culture it seems, which is really stupid. Also no having the attitude that it's not OK to be hungry, that helps too. And lastly doing as much exercise as you can, i went for a 2 hour walk every day during the summer before uni, did some weights too, then at uni i went to the gym as often as possible(mainly the running machines for an hour or just over), and did jogging with my friends. Lastly. drink lots of freaking water, literally all the time. Hope this helps

I went up to 120 kilo's.

Then i stuck around 120 kilo's for a few years.

Then i ran off 35 kilo's wich given my length is a healthy spot to be at.

Now whenever i put on my clothes it feels like i am wearing pyjama's, so a win all around.

i gained like 30 lbs over the course of college (graduated may 2010) but i've been working out daily for the past 4 weeks or so and i've lost about 10 lbs now.

hopefully i can lose another 10 lbs by the end of the month

i'm actually kind of worried because i'm going back to school so i need to make sure i eat right and exercise at least 4 or 5 times a week.

If you play a sport in college, your coaches (especially D1 programs) will hound you night and day over what you eat...

Therefore...

Gained 5lbs.
