Columbus had 28,621 posts and 2,369,688 views while Anaheim had 15,307 posts and 962,046 views, though you can add a few thousand to views and posts to Anaheim post-tournament. I liked this MLG more and thought it had a similar amount of hype as last, so such a huge difference is surprising and an interesting topic of discussion. Obviously we have no way to know the stream numbers, which is the actual important statistic, but about half the interest in the most popular of the three LR thread's is a pretty big indicator of something. Hopefully I'm way off or am missing something but based on the numbers it seems the viewers interest has died down some. Anyone have any other reasons to explain the disparity?

I was at this MLG. Watched all the games avidly. But once we saw that the finals were going to be all Koreans, we left at 2 instead of staying until 7 to watch the games and saved a night at the hotel and drove home instead.
Well i think that people realized that the LR threads are pretty much people telling you what your watching with a few !!! added in. I also find them pretty annoying because they move so fast.

LR threads are a pretty essential part of TL if I'm not mistaken. Personally I love sharing my enthusiasm for the games with other people when I can't have friends over in RL to watch the games.
Wow at those tweets, sick, forget all I said. Forgot about EVO and didn't think about the TvT's affecting things since I play Terran. Thinking about it now I'm sure if the finals had been better and no evo I'd think it'd be a pretty negligible difference in the LR. Pretty sick to think that we broke records this weekend with some pretty big factors taking away a lot of viewers. Gogo ESPORTS.

The finals weren't very good at the last MLG either. Back then, Losira had no clue how to play ZvT, and MMA just rolled him.
Meh, as a terran who loves TvT, I enjoyed most of the games, except the boxer game on meta where they just mirrored their armies until the map ran dry ~_~ Got kind of old seeing everyone go BF hellions every single game though.
They just didn't have the matchups I think that columbus had. It grew well which is really nice all the same but it just wasn't as good of an event as before.
Still Steady great MLG though a lot of other ESPORTS.
It wasn't a badly run event, it was smooth as silk for me apart from my suspicion that something with the stream causes it to leak bandwidth if you changed some stuff. It's probably because it was just koreans smashing every single foreigner into the ground, and a lot of blue flame hellions. Even huge worker BBQ's can only do so much for TvTvTvTvTvZ =/

I watched the whole Colombus event but this week end I only watched a handful of games. To be honest I prefer watching kr vs. kr matches like the ones in GSL and Korean Weekly. Koreans own white dudes and it's getting old.
People leaving because there were no foreigners left sounds pretty god damn stupid to me. I mean, you have boxer rolling face in the groups, and then you have MVP vs. DRG, then MMA vs. DRG rematch which was amazing, and then Ganzi vs. MMA, then Boxer vs. MMA in master vs. disciple showdown which was a fucking incredible series, and then MMA vs. MVP rematch of the two best terrans at MLG.
Sc2 fans should like all the games regardless of country and just leaving because some guy who works less than someone else didn't make it doesn't sound like someone who's a real fan of the game. Just my criticism.
there were more problems at Columbus which generated the higher number of views & posts
Losira's keyboard screwing up
constant lag due to people on bnet messaging players
inconsistent and unknown schedule
MLG Anaheim practically went 100% smoothly. people can complain about downtime but MLG Anaheim operated on a specified schedule and mostly stuck to it.

Too much TvT, I couldn't care less about the amount of foreigners in this MLG. But there was just too many TvT's for me.
Not MLG's fault Definetly not the players fault.
I absolutely loved every SlayerS TvZ though, thats BFH style with rine drop and the +1 timing stim followup was just fun to watch and I would stay up if DRG was in the finals, but he got knocked out.
Needed some more korean zergs/Protoss imo but ow well can't have it all.
Ow yeah, the stream problems over at columbus and the keyboard problems were reasons for spamming.
This Anaheim don't have that big "incident" that caused the LR thread to jump though.
Colombus we had the IdrA-MMA gg moment that must have caused everyone who heard it to check the LR thread to see people's reaction. The thread jumped about a 100 pages in a few minutes ( maybe 10) because of that. Also, the thread got split between Red and Blue which further discourage discussion.
And it is just the way it is with LR thread. People get used to it and don't bother participating in the LR anymore because F5-ing distract you from the actual experience. GSL thread views and posts also decrease a lot since the early days. The smoother the viewing experience is, the lesser the need to participate in the LR threads unless something mindblowing happens.

Agreed, less drama during this MLG. The IdrA/MMA games combined with IdrA/MC games instantly added 50-100 pages worth of comments on the LR thread. This MLG lacked such drama.

only reason why MLG Dallas 2011 had such higher numbers was because the event was such utter shit
MLG Anaheim was better than MLG Columbus no matter what kinds of theories people want to make up about people not wanting to watch Koreans dominate
Yep, people are just crazy if they don't think this MLG was better, and I don't know why you'd go to the amount of posts in the LR thread over just the amount of viewers this MLG received. Not much "drama" but there was a lot of fun stuff going on throughout, and the storylines of the matchups were 10x better. Boxer and Rain chatting about how they couldn't attack each other, then also Boxer telling MMA to win it all into a gg. The games were a lot of fun.
I thought it was obvious that there was more "drama" or hype from columbus that people talked about
-People discussed pages and pages of idrA beating MC on the opening games, followed by MC saying he would never lose to idrA if he was at 100% (jetlagged). Then he did the throat slash and idrA flicked him off. Even fate had it so that MC would face idrA again and even with extended series MC beat him.
-idrA premature gg after MMA destroyed his own command center when he was probably going to win.
-MC just being the best entertainer and hyping up every game he's in, like announcing that naniwa was the best protoss foreigner and their matches would determine who the best protoss in the world is. Naniwa dancing the zealots but ended up losing...
So I don't think the size of the LR thread reflects the amount of viewers.
Not sure if thats true I went to mlg today and a man came on stage and told us that the bar had been set higher for mlg from 22million unique views at Columbus to over 30million in anaheim
On August 01 2011 12:51 red4ce wrote: In Columbus people still honestly believed foreigners could beat Koreans.
I think that's partially responsible. I didn't really watch much of this MLG because the results seemed more certain and the games definitely felt more one-sided and lacked the suspense of games from past tournaments for sure.
Also, I think SC2's fandom has diminished slightly, though it is still very big.
I'm surprised the MLG (Dallas?) with the eagles and stream cats doesn't have the highest number of views - an event where the forum content actually rivaled the tournament (what we got to see of it) in terms of entertainment.

Very good point. I mostly only came to the LR threads and refreshed like mad if something went wrong or something crazy amazing happened. There was much less of the former this time around, and slightly less of the latter, I suppose.

It's funny how people say they love SC2, then complain about Koreans winning. What, you like watching games that are anything other than the best in the world? Pretty lame if you ask me.
And LR threads have been useless for the longest time, maybe some people finally caught on. I only check the front page for results. I tried to check the thread for a bit, laughed at all the "omg koreans" replies then didn't bother going past the front page afterwards.

I would rather watch players that I'm familiar with. That I love watching. I don't feel like I can relate with Koreans at all, as compared to foreigners. It's not that I don't enjoy their skill- it's that I like to watch the people I watch. If it were strictly about pure gameplay content, then of course I would love watching the Koreans.
And yah I got kind of bored with this MLG, way too many TvT. It can be fun to watch it, but seeing it endlessly for 10 hours straight is not appealing at all.

EVO is the world championship for fighting games. This was going on at the same time as MLG Anaheim.

The quality of the games were great, I don't see how being Korean or a foreigner really makes a difference as long as the games are really good. I wonder where the scene's priorities really lie
