It happens a lot. Some people want to put their opinion more than get a response from it and don't entirely read.

There's also the issue of reading something and assuming you understand the basis of it to formulate something coherent.

This also happens when you see the same shit 50 times in a week.

I think the reader should be expected to read everything. But on the other hand, some people write really, really poor posts with no coherency whatsoever that even the most prudent readers can misunderstand.

If you're having trouble properly reading the thread your computer resolution might be too low, it should be more than 800x600. The reason is that if you have the resolution too low there aren't enough pixels to display the entire thread on the screen.

Your screen might need to be replaced. I suggest something new, like a 3DTV.

Listening is harder than talking.

Well I think its just that people are reading into things too much. I mean I would think a typical psychological response of someone who hasn't had sex would be to defend why they haven't had it, and to do so they may try to question the importance of it in society in general. Therefore people aren't responding precisely to your argument, but are rather reading "between the lines" and trying to understand your thoughts behind why you posted it, rather than the post itself.

It happens in many other situations, and its a very natural human thing to do. People often infer further meaning from other people's sentences, understanding implications and reasonings/biases behind certain statements. Its essential for human communication, its the huge emotional/psychological aspects that underlie a lot of our thoughts. Its just sometimes people use it in the wrong circumstances, like when making precise logical arguments.

If you want to avoid this, I think you should be extra clear and just say "I personally do not have a problem being a virgin, and the focus of this thread isn't about me personally being uncomfortable with other people's labels. But I would like to understand how sex in general should be valued in society"

If you instead start off with "I'm a virgin, and to most idiots out there that means I'm a loser". Can you see how this could be seen as a somewhat vindictive, emotionally damaged response? If you want to have a more clear-headed debate on the value of sex in society, it would be better to word it differently. Anyways its getting kind of late for me, maybe I didn't type everything perfectly but I hope you get my message.

I agree though, in general a lot of people make assumptions and don't read threads completely. But for your one thread on sex in particular I believe there are some important reasons behind why things turned out the way they did that you should acknowledge for the future
