Hey guys and gals!
Got home from work and I finally got a chance to play Dark Messiah of Might and Magic all because that game came for free on Steam if you got Heroes V, though it does not exactly say in the pack information that the game is supposed to come with the game for free. Then again, this game is basically a Source game so it's no big surprise Valve released it like that.
I heard from a tweet from a guy I follow that Dark Messiah is trying to be Oblivion but it failed at doing so and it's not worth the money. I have yet to actually play Oblivion myself (I started with Fallout 3) but for what it is, it gave me a really good first impression. I have yet to play the game in full, but I will tell you that I like the combat mechanics in the game so far in terms of melee. I will eventually write more of my thoughts on the game, but I have to say this now: in my opinion, this game is underrated as hell. I might be wrong on that, though since most PC gamers are fond of the Might and Magic franchise.

Oh neat! This is an RPG based on heroes of might and magic. I would be really interested in trying this. Hadn't heard about it till now actually so thanks.

No Dark Messiah tries not to be an Oblivion (Open World RPG). It is a pretty fun FPS like game. maybe a FPC(First person Caster ) You run though corridors and kill stuff get some items and kill more stuff. Killing stuff looks very nice because of ragdoll and physics. It has no open world and not much stuff to level up.
I would say it's a very entertaining short game. On it's release it was pretty impressive duo to phyiscs and graphics. Maybe thats not the case in comparison to todays games.

I loved dark messiah back when it came out in 2006. It would've done better but it seemed to have some driver incompatibilities at launch which caused reviewers to give it a really low score =[ fortunately for me at the time, it was just install and go.
dark messiah was a lot faster paced than oblivion which i liked, and the combat felt more responsive. You should search up some dark messiah mods, theres a physics mod so that its not super broken to kick the guy halfway across the room into the spikes and another mod that makes bow and arrow viable. Vanilla arrows were too weak =[
On a side note, arkane finally announced their next game yesterday and i'm pretty excited. I see another first person with a katana in the screenshot <3 http://kotaku.com/5820130/first-look-at-dishonored-the-new-game-from-arkane-and-deus-ex-designer-harvey-smith

No, it's nothing like Oblivion, because it's a structured story and a controlled progression, rather than an open-world RPG where you can just do whatever the fuck. That's like comparing Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty.
The story was kind of derp, but the game was really fun. It's got a good atmosphere, fun, challenging combat; akin to the Unreal series, where rather than facing tons of weak enemies, you face a small number of enemies that are tough to kill in their own right.
I loved the multiplayer when it came out, but sadly there's very, very few people playing it anymore. You'd be lucky to find a server with 8 people on it at peak time.

The one thing that I thought was really awesome about the game was the melee combat system. At higher levels of difficulty, you had to actually plan out your swordplay in order to land successful hits (reminiscent of jedi knight II saber fighting).
The voice acting/dialogue however... oh god, beyond terrible in my opinion (i'm very finicky when it comes to voice acting tho so take it as you will), it's like WoL dialogue, campy at best, writhingly awful cliche's at worst. It reminded me of the last D&D movie, full of awful tropes that failed to make an impact (again dialogue/story).
All in all I had a ok time with it though.
