Yesterday was my high school graduation ceremony. Everyone rented a gown except me(I didnt get one because I was defiantly lazy, I was also under the impression that I had the freedom to make the least of my life.). I walked in late and had to scootch between alphabetically ordered rows. I stepped on many a toe on the way to my seat in the centre of the T row. Friends and fellows alike gave me that all to familiar accusing stare as I arrived at my seat.
Despite the fact that I was late the ceremony seemed poised to drag on for at least an eternity, but the students redeemed the evening with MLG Columbus level enthusiasm, every time the name of a fellow student's name was called out they shrieked like animals. It was heart warming to say the least.
I had only a single regret ragarding my graduation. At the end of the ceremony everyone tossed their pointed velvet hats into the air. In that tight space between the ceiling and the floor the hats pieced together a vast, fluttering, light blue ,gold laden sky that hung in the air for an instant before coming apart and crashing down into the clumsy arms of oddly garbed peacocks.
Later on I grabbed my friends hat and tossed it like a Frisbee onto the stage, it wasn’t the same. That hat toss is a reminder of all the great and terrible opportunities I chose not to take advantage of throughout my life so far, tossing that hat would have meant something although Im not sure what. So heres to past present and future hat tosses, they maybe ridicules but somehow they seem important, next time I wont miss out

I ditched my HS graduation. I initially thought it was a stupid idea to ditch but now that I've matured more, i'm actually happy with my decision. I don't like conforming and I stood up for that.

We didn't throw our hats at my high school graduation on Monday. We're hipster for that.

Yeah, if you saved money, then I don't blame you for not going. If I can save money on it, I don't plan to go next year either. Not planning to go on senior trip or to prom either, or get a yearbook. Should get about $600, and I don't really care for such memories. So don't worry about it, the memories that matter, in my opinion, are real and not symbolic. You graduated whether or not you threw a hat, and you stood among your friends as it happened, remember it that way.

I refused to buy one and saved 200 dollars. They ended up giving me one for free to not make graduation look retarded.

I didn't even attend my masters degree graduation ceremony. These kind of ceremonies are always very hypocritical. I didn't want the teachers who were almost insulting me all the year (because I had good grades without attending their classes) to congratulate me with a big fake smile. I don't want to shake university president's hand, that bastard didn't support us at all when lecturers were on strike.
Paying for that ? Lemme laugh.
Please send my degree certificate by mail. kkthxbye.

You're going places, aren't you? People with your attitude in life always do.
I don't understand though because I've always been top of my class. My two younger brothers were valedictorians in their respective graduations and also had top marks. I like events like these because people are actually proud of me, and they wish me the best. I would never miss the chance to feel that way even for a couple of hours, nor would I insult the people putting on this fanfare. I also respect other people, which is why I patiently sit through these kinds of presentations.
When I graduate from university next year I'm going there with fucking bells on. I've killed myself for this degree, and I'll be dammed if I don't get the chance to be up on that stage and hold it in my own two hands. Fuck everyone who hated me, or doubted me, or disrespected me - I'm going to enjoy that moment.

Its personal choice, I wen tto HS graduation because it was required lol, I don't give a shit about the ceremony itslef I just want the diploma and thats it. My GF ended up getting a bad case of the swine flu in the Week leading up to Senior Prom, wasn't allowed to go, so I ended up skipping out instead of going by myself or with another girl.
If I graduate from college, I'll skip the graduation, have the diploma mailed to me. I'm not going to stick around in college for an extra week for the weekend of graduation to sit in the humid heat in a black gown, listen to speeches and walk through a stage that I don't care about. I'm getting the hell out of that city ASAP.
