It's not the computations that slow you down its things like cache misses, which will load from your 1333MHz memory. On second thought, this kind of intuitively doesn't seem that wrong. It's just that the reality is that for most tasks, there are apparently many cache hits, proper out-of-order execution and branch prediction, and so on, so the limiting factor generally is the computations rather than the memory access speeds. If it weren't for those clever tricks in the CPU, we probably would all be wanting that 2000 MHz RAM or whatever, complete with RAM coolers and the whole deal.
Making sense or not doesn't change the fact that 10 seconds on Google would have showed him that the performance increase is anything but negligible.

I've seen some of the strangest descriptions about what hyper-threading is on Intel CPUs that support it, but it's somehow a common mistake. e.g. this, but I already responded to the below so no need to harp on it too much: Show nested quote +The i3-2100 has hyperthreading, so it technically utilizes 4 cores, but its not as good as a true 4 core like an i5
lol, wasnt there a recent thread where someone thought that was a serious link?
also threading joke

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=232687¤tpage=2#24 The thread is asking advice about Filco Keyboards and switches... the genius advice?
just get a razer laycosa or arctosa, theyre really good, or you could get blackwidow, they will go pretty well with youre deathadder, filco keyboards look very hard to press, believe me its easier to play on more flat buttons that push freeley!

Everything was fine until three days ago, when connection to Europe, then USWest and then Asia, failed to start, with no messages returned, but the gateway list window back again. Only working gateway is US East. I have no problems with my ISP or firewall setings, because one gateway is still working. Need help, pls.

This happens once every millenia or so, they randomly select a person they think is noble of spirit and true of heart, they issue a challenge that will take the said person on a long and dangerous adventure that will lead to great personal growth within the protagonist. The protagonist being you!
Good luck my friend...may your unlocking of the sacred gateways be successful...I know it will be tough, but if anyone can do it...it's you...Goku.

Added a new genius to the OP.

People are lining up for the honor of being added. Got a new one.

I think all the topics made by Veg in the tech support forum should bear honorable mention.

Jingle Hell deserves an award!

I'm not even a computer/tech genius and I know half the shit these people are spouting is just horrible and/or non related to the problem.
|
I know i am an idiot becuase i only understood about 1/3 of these. I know that i know nothing about computer so that satisfies me!

I do not really agree with this thread, but nonetheless it scared me quite a few times. I thought I was the composer of some of those comments in the OP lol.

Between the closed forums section and the Tech support you really can find some golden posts
I enjoyed it and hope to see some more posts up there soon
|
I've very disappointed in myself that I only understood half of them if that. My computer knowledge is highly lacking

The only reason I hope to be able to add to it is because that means I saw them and had the chance to make sure the person receiving the bad advice knew it was just that...
Funny as it may be, bear in mind, people's PC's are in mortal peril every time someone self-nominates for a place of honor in this thread.

Some real gems there. My favorite is the one about the HDD speed vs RAM speed :D

Hmm, anyone have other posts that are censored for our protection? I want to find each and every one of them hats off to r1ch again for making that hehe

Yeah, wish I'd known HDD's were so fast before I wasted money on an SSD... oh wait, that thing's still slower than my RAM? And how much faster than my HDD?

Hmm, that one seems relatively benign on the bad advice scale of Zero to Electrical fire.
Would be annoying to have it not work, but time consumption > Wasted money.
