Right now i'm doing a Alien marathon. I recently bought the anthology on blue-ray (the cheap version) and after watching Alien(1) and Aliens(2) man i am missing the old ways of how they made movies. These long shots where you could actually se what is happening is what i miss the most in todays action movies. I hate when they have these 1/2 second shots of something and have like 20 of these in a row so you feel like you're having a seizure. It feels like you are getting one of those if you ever heard of it hidden commercials that you couldn't se but made you want something, for example if you watching a movie and they cut in a 1 millisecond (i dont know exact) shot of a for example bottle of coke you wouldn't notice but you would feel a need for coke.
You have like no time to think about the stuff that are happening in the movies. I like to be able to reflect what is happening when i watch a movie but when they try to rape you with this fast paced cutting, like they hired some zelot to go crazy on the tape, you have no time.
I dont know if i'm the only one that feels this way, but i am so tiered of this fast-paced editing that seems to be todays standard.
Is it just my brain that's slow or are anyone feeling the same way?

modern day editing / camerawork is pretty terrible.

You are not alone!
I think of such quick-cut scenes as a cheap way of avoiding work for the film-maker. You don't have to have as good quality acting and effects when switching angles mid-punch.

I also get annoyed by it whenever I notice it (too often).

Go watch Children of Men. Recent film, and that has literally 6 minute continuous shots (though you don't realize it at the time).

Realistically, this has to do with logistics. When special effects are hard, expensive, and complicated, you have to make the portions of the film without them longer. When they are cheaper, and easier than real actors' time, you're going to fill as much as the movie with them as you can.

yeah eluvs got a point. there are a few good directors out there, just the majority are bad.

God I hate quick cut scenes. THey are the bane of my existence. Ruin good films beyond rescue.
