So that "elephant in the room" article on the front page is amazing!

Besides some custom games and losing horribly on the first single player mission in BW, I have zero RTS experience. I love SC2 though, and already am in high Diamond. I really want to know the 'roots' of SC2, and I hear a lot of hype about how awesome some of these players are. I have no idea who or what race Flash, Jaedong, bisu even play, I've just heard their names tossed around as 'epic'.

So I was wondering if anyone could link me or tell me where to watch the most epic SC:BW games that are recent - yea this thread has been done before, but they are outdated, old, and a bit different (ie usually a different audience). Just wanted to see a good game that someone who has played the game and could follow what was going on, would enjoy, that has some legend from today, not some old game where they do silly micro mistakes no one would make today. I don't know who the best player right now, but I would like to see a game of THEM vs someone in a close game that's awesome (they don't have to win ofc).

Thanks

Given that he's new to BW, commentary might be helpful.

I'd recommend

Good game from both players, with decent commentary, that really illustrates modern TvZ well. Keep an eye on the channel, games 2 and 3 of this series were amazing, and I expect there to be commentaries out soon.

I cheer for underdogs and Flash

Thanks everyone, thanks Harem imma check it out!

immediately it seems crazy its not some all-in that decides the game and that there's so many skirmishes

I would have to go with this one because it fit the theme S2 of the GSL so well. It was executed very well and was not done every single TvZ. In all honesty there is so many that it is hard to come up with a solid top5.

Brood War forever!

If you want to see a decent example of that check out

It's a TvT, so it's pretty long, but there's almost constant action. Also, commentated by the man who i feel is the best active commentator, though since he mainly does OSL he's been quiet lately.

Although it's back from late 2010, this is still one of my favorite examples of Flash's general godliness.

EDIT - Updated link to skip the recap.

I really recommend this one, it's a really intense game AND you get to see sexy sweaty Jaedong. Doesn't get much better than that.

I love this kind of blogs -.-

There could be 10 of them a day, and still you'd get recommendation in each one, from a lot of people. BW is just awesome like that!

BY FAR MY FAV GAME RIGHT HERE:

http://www.gomtv.net/classic/vod/237

Jaedong vs Lomo Game 3. Oh my god this is such an epic game, never seen a better game. Tasteless commentary too so SC2 players can relate more

Agreed, and i can't help but feel a little smug thinking about how a similar thread about recent sc2 games would go.

You should try watching a live game, join the chat.

It's a different experience than watching VODs. I guess you could start with MSL Ro8 when it comes on next, I find PL boring unless it's a big match like SKT vs KT or unless it's a key match. But I do like WL...

I miss this enthusiasm in Tasteless' SC2 commentary hehe:

Great game because of Tasteless' commentary if you watch to the end.

^Agreed, if you watch a game with no commentary and no BW experience you will miss out on a lot of the awesomeness. Also check out the pimpest plays.

edit: sorry this isn't recent.
And commentary on the above game is rather lackluster. It's nothing compared to husky commentary.

2 straight up amazing games... I'll link versions with commentary
Upmagic vs Luxury on Outsider

Bisu vs Flash on Heartbreak Ridge (Klaz style!)

these are two of my favorite games for sure
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

This one may not have the star power but people don't stick with SK Terran much anymore like FBH did in this game and I remember being really entertained watching this one live.

This game is less then a week old, yet has become one of my favorite TvTs I have ever watched, which contrary to popular belief, can be very exciting.

Also

My battle report if you don't fully underestand whats going on in the game(Omg shameless self promoting)
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=221496

However if you want to know the basics of Starcraft Brood War, watch the GomTV classics, the ones with Tastless commentating or search for Moletrap, Diggity, Cholera or Klazart(my personal favorite of the ''old'''people). They have enough games to last you......well a very long time.

Once you get the idea of whats going on, watch some with korean commentary, feel the passion.

And if you have time, make your way into a livechat of a live Brood War game, if I am there, I will be happy to answer any questions which you have about the matchup at that point.(I am not an expert, but I know some stuff and other people can help me out too).

CONVERTING PEOPLE TO BW ONE AT A TIME PEOPLE.

J/K have fun and enjoy both scenes.

There's no reason why it should be for SC2 fans, there's nothing that really separates them from any other group that watches pro gaming.

And thus

BW General forum is born.

Analogies are fucking useful when explaining things man, and for all their differences there are a lot to be made between Sc2 and BW.
