Ok....so..... If any of you are currently watching the NASL tonight you probably seen the match between TLO and Rainbow. What a joke of professionalism that was from incontrol and gretorp.
Let me paint the picture.....
During the previous games, all of them had been 2-0 in favor of the winners. So, jokingly, the commentators (obviously geoff and gretorp) say that they will root for whoever loses game one just so they can see a game three. Originally, you just think they are making this comment to be taken with a grain of salt, but that was not the case. You see, they continually made sarcastic remarks both towards TLO and Rainbow about their play and how it was "cheesy" or how "classic" or "creative" it was during game 2.
Now, if I was a professional player in a "professional" league being casted by "professional" casters, and I watched as the casters, plain and simply, made fun of me playing and laughing while I got 0-2'ed, I would be absolutely furious. The amount of professionalism displayed to me so far from that league has been absolutely mediocre. How do you expect people who don't take professional gaming seriously, when the cast looks like two friends laughing at some computer game where one guy gets stomped.
Absolutely unreal. Where is the "trying to improve" and "learning as we go" mentality that we've heard from people surrounding the NASL?
Again. Unreal.

I assume that the reason you aren't posting about this in the LR thread is that everyone else found it hilarious and you would just look like someone who takes things too seriously.
But the joke is on you! Even though you made a new thread, you still look like someone who takes things way too seriously.

Not to incite any flaming, but I'm going to agree with motbob here. This does seem to be the situation.

Tens of thousands of people disagree, get over yourself.

How dare they be entertaining.
Do you think them talking about how 1-sided it was would have been interesting in the least?
I'll take fun or interesting 10000x over professionalism if those are the only 2 choices.

So far the community's response to NASL has been WAH WAH WAH. This just adds to that.
So welcome to the bandwagon.

If they're going to be casting random games for hours every single day they damn well better throw a pie from time to time.

precisely, because the overwhelming majority of posts in the NASL thread thoroughly enjoyed the humor provided by the cast.

lol it was funny. get it FUNNY! have you no soul?

or perhaps the North American Comedy League That's be pretty sweet... errr

I guess he's just worried that the players will have their feelings hurt because of the jokes made during the casts?
I dunno how you didn't see the other thread which covers this... Motbob mentioned it originally. The live report thread. The thread discussing the NASL for today with dozens of pages.

OP please take your head out of your ass. It was honestly very funny and added a new dimension to their casting.

I found it hilarious. Am I a bad person?

Gretorp and Incontrol are amazing commentators and analysts. I am sorry you can't appreciate all they do for the community and the amazing tournament they are putting out for us.

I'm not trying to disagree with people. Ya, it was funny, but I just don't think that that is the arena for them to do it in. Bottom line.

Yeah there is no way he missed the LR thread. Hes trying to do damage control I think heh.
|
I thought it was hilarious, but at times it was a bit harsh if you put yourself in the players shoes. Invited to a league to try to do well then criticized when they do try to play, I mean everyone has their off days where they just play like shit.
Felt more like watching a Day9 daily than a serious tournament stream.

Easy solution. Don't watch! There is sooooo much Sc2 content out right now that it's not like your forced to watch NASL.

I agree with Seide. I thought it was very funny, but if I was Rainbow watching that, I would be quite angry. I think both sides have a point. It would be either entertainment or professionalism, and I personally don't mind either.

You're totally right. And now, to make up for it, they need to make a Chill/Moderate Temperature style "Minerals being mined" video.

Well when the games are bad, the only way to save the cast is by being funny... Happens all the time in tournaments.

I agree we need the Kinder eSPORTS Safety Protection Association to step in and make sure these casters do not do anything off the wall that might hurt the feelings of someone. It is an outrage that the internet have jokes on it. Something, something professionalism and esports!
|
It was a joke. And yes it wasnt very funny at first, but then after it kept going for so long I eventually... just muted the sound to watch TLO boss it out, but it wasnt meant to be a critique of the player. It was just an attempt to be entertaining that a lot of people found entertaining - so it worked?
I guess the funniest bit is that if InControl had been at the other end of it, we'd prolly see another "Its a conspiracy against my person"-rantthread. I guess he's still whining about that given that Gretorp seemed to reference that whole QQ-train. So yeah... it was actually kinda funny now that I think about it :p

i found the Sarcasm to be really entertaining. sure they didn't comment to much on what TLO was really doing but i don't give a care it was entertaining and TLO explained it in the interview.
The interviews were also filled with the sound problems NASL is becoming know for. the interview must be on speackers in the studio and the mic picked it up. also it seems like you can hear someone else talking. i really hope these are fixed in the future but the production is still a great show it just really needs a little more polish.
|
As long as we age getting good content should we care what snide remarks the commentators make? If you can't stand it, mute the stream and play some music

i liked it. when people nitpick about the small things like that then it means the NASL is hugely improving. in GSL january artosis let a f-bomb slip while describing siege tanks and the gom forums lit up with soccer mom trolls.

This.
I really really enjoyed NASL today. I had a good time watching some good SC2 games and the casters were hilarious. They know when to be serious, but honestly, a little joking around is what separates good casters from amazing casters
|
+1 to motbob et. al.
This is yet another: “X caster did Y and NOW E-SPORTS IS DOOMED thread.” I just don't get it. I really don't. You say that Gret and iNc making some (frankly hilarious) jokes is “unreal.” Personally what I find unreal is how many threads come out of the woodwork every time a caster does anything. Jesus, I feel for the casters.
Gretorp & iNcontroL, keep pimping. I really enjoyed the cast tonight.
|
No, Punic is right. I'm sorry, but there is too much political correctness on Teamliquid. Criticism has been taken roughly the last few months, and I feel like SOTG last night showed this perfectly. Almost and hour of defense from Gretorp when not legitimately provoked? JR being an unjust dick for suggesting that people were unhappy? Let's get real. Punic is asking you to assume you were the player being assumed to lose 2-0 when Starcraft and training is your life. It's okay to make a prediction, but a person shouldn't be a total joke. Assume you are them (as the OP suggests).
A caster's job is to be neutral and passionate about the potential of each player. Day9 does this well. He only calls a game as it's ending. Don't get angry that two new casters haven't mastered this yet. Who cares that they are good at playing the game--It's not the same as casting.
E-sports is far from doomed and nothing about this post suggests that. I think that a sore attitude about quality and forced emotion is the cause of unhappiness from OP. As a non-internet troll and a personal IRL friend of Punic, I doubt most people here could be as dedicated to e-sports as him. Don't take it so hard guys, be open to criticism. Temp bans in defense of defamed, prior legends, and losing players? ...wow. Come on. Yes, the post-count defense was worthless, but that aside... this community used to be different. Don't make me miss the old days of top-notch expectations! Both sides of a game are worth respecting. This is Starcraft.
|
this is a sarcastic post right? because it's about sarcasm and it's over the top super ridiculous. right?

Guys, the problem here is that the TL community likes to band together and bash down people with opinions that conflict with their own, assholes. Luckily not everyone is like this, some people can listen to reason like normal people. But there are always some people that like to jump on the multitudes of bandwagons and drown out the one or two criticisms that people are brave enough to speak out about.
I watched the NASL for the first time tonight, and I did not like the casting. I hope you respect my opinion. Here's why- it was just a bit too unprofessional. The sarcasm continued on for too long. I wouldn't mind some sarcasm here or there, but not an entire cast during the series. So what to improve on? Just be a little bit more serious for EVERY series that is casted. Have SOME seriousness so that we are all happy and not just the TL community that enjoys watching a poor chap get owned 0 - 2 AND has casters spewing sarcastic remarks. Not everyone can be happy, but I feel like the NASL could have done better.
|
im not a guy who takes shit seriously, and i mean i dont mind the bashing but i guess its not professional, they will be ok though since rainbow is korean hahahah
just saying though I agree that they went overboard, but for a different reason -- they were trying too hard.
dunno if the majority in this thread saying how funny it was are such nerds that any joke/sarcasm from inc and gretorp is 'hilarious' but yeah... it was funny for a while then they kept going, and going, and going, and going... and it just got kinda dull/overdone.

What an awful suggestion. That would never work. People aren't interested in sarcasm.

lololololololololololol
Contrary to popular belief, a good caster isn't a robot. Theyre trying to add some humor to the cast lol. Some people take this idea of professionalism way too far. I'd rather have a caster be entertaining than strictly professional by the arbitrary standards of some guy in the LR thread.

If I was 2-0ed I'd have more things to worry about than a guy making sarcastic remarks that aren't even meant to be offensive or insulting. It's actually funny if you're not so horribly uptight. It's like you losing a game of starcraft and being frustrated, and your friend going "ahahhaha you suck call me for lessons". Yes I'm annoyed but hes obviously kidding and harmlessly poking fun. If I was an uptight douchebag I would tell him to fuck off....if I had the slightest sense of humor I wouldn't care.
That and OP's tone was absolutely ridiculous, taking the biggest offense and making the biggest deal of something that could be sufficiently expressed in 1 line on a feedback thread. "Again, unreal."
No, its not unreal

Well it's basically been said throughout this thread, there's no reason that the NASL casters should be humorless and robotic narrators.
Spectator sports, such as SC2, are supposed to be entertaining, the great play by the players and the commentating by the commentators are two inter-related but different aspects of the entertainment. So if the commentators choose humor and good commentating over complete seriousness and good commentating that's their decision and in my opinion a good decision.
Basically, if they didn't contribute something that spectators couldn't get out of just watching with sound off, such as their humor, it wouldn't be as appealing to spectators. So it's all good in my opinion.

But isn't there a point where there's just a little too much humor? I don't mind SOME humor but not too much of it. Isn't there a line between seriousness and humor that should be observed? What if the GSL finals were done in this fashion, or lets take it to the extreme just to make my post have some value- what if the casters for the Finals of GSL decided to swear, drop f bombs every 5 seconds, make political, racist, sexist, "too-early" or "too-soon" jokes (HAHA JAPAN GOT OWNED BY AN EARTHQUAKE sort of nonsense), be sarcastic wherever possible, insert memes like there's no tomorrow, and do their best not to add any serious analytical commentary on the game.
To you guys it will be funny, but will you still say it is acceptable?
