Is that "Ghost in the Shell" a reference to the "Ghost in the Machine" quote by Gilbert Ryle?

You don't say you have 0 bananas you say you have no bananas But now in modern times, its absolutely necessary for zero to be included for the new ideas and theories Read Zero by Charles Seife Great book and goes a lot more in depth

However, I think the whole statement is very interesting to think about and I'm curious where it all originates from (since ghost in the shell is just a mash-up of different philosophy schools and Buddhism). Well the way I learned it, the idea comes from Descartes(as far back as I know), and it's Gilbert Ryles' argument against Cartesian Dualism(that there is a seperate mind and body), saying that descartes attributes more than is possible to a merely physical being as well as other arguments against it. hence, ghost in the machine. (also Descartes was infamous for his answer to 'where' the mind connected to the body. supposedly he made up some organ and swiftly left the argument). now that I think of it, the mind body separation does of course go wayyyy back to ancient spiritualism, but the language of your quote would hint at Ryle. I might be overanalyzing this though Lol ![]()
