Last Week’s Birthdays
Light and Sea turned 21 (international age) last week. Congratulations to them! Light was born on 28th March 1990 and Sea was born just 1 day later.
Sea tweeted on the 28th: “Jaeho, Happy Birthday!”.
Upcoming Workshop
Tomorrow morning the MBC team will set off for a 2 nights- 3 days workshop at the Deoksan Spa Castle. This is the first workshop MBC will hold for its team since they went snowboarding in January 2010 at Yong Pyeong Resort.
HERO Gallery Happenings
“STARLEAGUE”
So what have MBC fans on dcinside been up to most recently? Well, they held a Starleague of their own among MBC fans on the HERO Gallery. The prize for the winner was a 10,000 Won Baskin Robbins coupon and the rest of the competitors got vouchers for a burger. They made a couple of "intros" for it parodying past OSL intros. Watch them HERE and HERE. Light Girl also participated in this competition.
SUPPER DROP
Korean fans have also been preparing a supper drop for the players. Last year they did a fresh fruits drop and a massive barbecued-pig drop.
This time round they raised over 350k Won (over USD300) for the supper drop. They planned on hosting it buffet style at one of the function rooms in the Loox Center after an MBC match. It was originally supposed to be held after the STX match but they had to postpone it to round 5 due to some organizational problems.
MBC UNIFORMS
An MBC fan did a cool compilation of all the POS and MBC uniforms over the years, starting from 2002 to present day. View them HERE and HERE. Awesome stuff. HERO uniforms over the past 3 seasons have just been plain baller.
FRENCH FRIES
Picture from Light's twitter.
A catch-phrase that has been used a lot by Korean MBC fans in the past month is – “French fries, all mine!” It started out when Sea treated his teammates to Mcdonalds the night before the MSL prelims and Hyun tweeted “French fries, all mine!”. After Hyun qualified for the MST, he immediately tweeted again “woohaha I’m through!! French fries”. So when some MBC fans are in a good mood, they’ll add the phrase “French fries, all mine!” or just “French fries!” at the end of their posts. “French fries” is also understood as a reference to Hyun.
“woohaha I’m through!! French fries” (Hyun)
Twitter Updates
SEA
Besides using twitter to chat with his friends (a good friend of his has the same name as ggaemo) and fans, Sea has been following sports stars he is a fan of. He tweeted the following in Korean…
“Following Shaquille O’Neal Shakira Magic Johnson ㅋ ㅋ They’re like my friendsㅋㅋㅋ”
And in English…
“@paugasol hey gasol!!!!! I'm your big fan!!!!!!!nice to meet you”
“@THE_REAL_SHAQ shaq!!!!!super big man!!!!! Hi!!!!"
Meanwhile, Sea also got a bit annoyed when MBC kept airing clips from his PD Pop Group Selection ceremony. lol But nonetheless he tweeted a picture of himself at the studio filming his opening for the ABC-Mart MSL intro:

TYSON & TINY
Tyson had lunch with his buddies Jaehoon (left) and Tiny (right) the day before he went on vacation. Above pictures are from Tyson’s cyworld.
Because Proleague is now in the middle of a break due to the Winners League play-offs, many members of the team went back to their hometowns for a week-long vacation. Jaehoon and Hyun stayed behind to practice for their MST matches. With no matches to play, Tyson went back to his hometown with his pal Kal on the morning of 23rd March. They’re both from Daegu and went to middle school together. On the train, Tyson snapped this picture of Kal while he was fast asleep:
I wonder if Kal knows about this since he doesn’t have twitter.
Tyson spent much of his vacation, according to him, “eating and sleeping then eating and sleeping”. He also watched Korean dramas & movies (he tweeted Movie: “I’m watching a movie! huhu”) he couldn’t catch while competing in Proleague and listened to songs he asked fans on twitter to recommend to him.
Tyson and Tiny were also joking around over twitter when Tiny posted this picture of Tyson with the comment “it’s Hyun Bin” (Hyun Bin is a famous actor who appeared in Secret Garden):

MBC fans caught on to this and started referring to Tyson as “Hyun Bin Toss” in forums. Mumyung even joked about it on HERO gallery. So “Hyun Bin Toss” has now become Tyson’s new nickname.
Finally, some pictures Tyson tweeted from the filming of the ABC-Mart MSL intro video:

Status of Hyun’s MSL Ceremony
Sea has been hyping up a possible Hyun ceremony in every interview he has given after qualifying for a starleague since Bigfile MSL, but I’m not really sure if Hyun is going to do a ceremony for ABC-Mart MSL group selection. Hyun has been feeling down these past couple months. His parents’ health has not been good and they even went to the hospital, although recently they managed to go to Loox Center to support him in the MST for the first time. MBC’s poor form in WL no doubt also affected him. In an interview, he expressed that he hopes to refrain from doing a ceremony because he’s now a senior member of the team and should be setting a good example. But then he backtracked and said he might change his mind if he gets any good ideas and asked fans to post interesting ideas on his cyworld guestbook. So who knows?
Just wishing Hyun’s parents a good recovery!
MBC At The Rookie Draft
Let’s end this post with a look at MBC’s latest recruits from the recent Draft held on 28th March.
Mumyung brought Jaehoon along with him to the Draft and recruited the following players...
Kim Min Gyu (Check/zerg), originally an MBC trainee
Kim Yong Hyuk (Wow/zerg), originally an MBC trainee
Jeon Jae Hak (Crise/teran), originally an MBC trainee
Lee Geon Hee (terran), no previous team affiliation
Oh Han Seok (terran), no previous team affiliation
Goo Chan Woo (protoss), no previous team affiliation
From left to right: Mumyung, either Oh Han Seok or Goo Chan Woo, either Oh Han Seok or Goo Chan Woo, Lee Geon Hee, Jeon Jae Hak, Kim Min Gyu, Kim Yong Hyuk
The Draft process worked this way…
For the first 3 rounds out of 5, teams got to pick players according to the reverse order in which the teams are currently ranked in Proleague. So Fox got to pick first and KT last. In the first 2 rounds, teams usually end up picking their current trainees unless they have none. In rounds 1 & 2, Check and Wow were picked respectively by MBC. Before round 3, MBC decided to recruit Crise through recommendation and instead picked Lee Geon Hee. In round 4, the order is reversed and KT gets to pick first and Fox last while Fox gets first pick in round 5 again. MBC picked Oh Han Seok and Goo Chan Woo in rounds 4 and 5.
Now let’s look at how the chosen rookies performed at the evaluation competition prior to the Draft.
Screencapped by me from KesPA's website.
First column is the ranking.

Check (and Wow too but Check more so) got a fair bit of press because of their performances at the evaluation stage. There was also some hype created by DES earlier in the season, after Check won several Dream League games as an amateur.
But nonetheless, It’s hard to judge how rookie progamers will perform in Proleague based on their evaluation results. We shall see if they live up to the hype.
Okay, that’s all for today. Thanks for reading.
