Why your opinion does matter:
Anyway first I would like to say that constructive criticism is good and I’m sure everyone appreciates being told how they could improve what they are doing and I am not saying you should give suggestions or your opinion to the higher-ups involved in e-sports. The opinion of the viewer is important to organizers and sponsors as without viewers there would be no big tournaments with high stakes. The NASL used an online voting system to poll the fans to see what players they want to see in one of the biggest non-Korean tournaments ever. Though this was not the only criteria they used this does show that they value the input of the viewership. If some organization fucks up then you should let them know… but take the time to write out your thoughts clearly. Telling someone “you fucked up” doesn’t really help as 95% of the time, they already know they did.
In short your opinion matters because you’re a fan and you’re the reason why these events are held and broadcasted.
Why your opinion doesn’t matter:
Let’s say your job is to organize SC2 events. How often do you think about said events considering it’s your job? Well probably about 40 hours a week or more because if you’re organizing SC2 tournaments you’re probably also madly passionate about this game and e-sports. And this isn’t just thinking about SC2 in passing. This is focused thought about something that you are going to put your name on and people around the world will know that you did this.
Let’s say your job is NOT to organize SC2 events. How often do you think about said events? Less than 40 hours? Even if you love SC2 and talk about it to all your friends who don’t even care (like I do) you probably don’t think about SC2 as much as someone who’s job it is to play in or hold SC2 events.
Conclusion:
Your opinion does matter and those in charge know it, kind of. But thinking that your opinion is the end all be all is ridiculous. NASL has picked 50 players to compete in their tournament. They have their reasons for picking those players and I am sure they have thought about their decisions. In fact they have thought about their decisions far more than you have thought about the reasons why your favourite player didn’t make the top 50. So yes your opinion matters but there is a minority on teamliquid that is extremely vocal and extremely juvenile whose opinions don’t matter. All it takes to be a grown up is five minutes of thinking and maybe a little research before you press post. Who do you want to be:
A) “OMG what the fuck this is bull shit that player A made it over player B. Player A is a scrub. Tournament X is fail”
B) “Im pissed off that player B didn’t make it.”
If you don’t mind being poster A) then your not helping teamliquid become more amazing.
Your opinion only matters if you're being an intellegent confributer...
