The cheap vendors are here to stay, a revolution in China is more likely than in Libya if they took those away.

The lists in here are pretty much on the spot. I've gotten down the names of a few people living in Beijing in the TL community. So far, I've put it on hold in favor of coursework, but the names and game ids. are there. (Beijing Starcraft Club). I might get around to doing a meetup at the time you are around, will see though.

Enjoy Beijing, if your a typical white guy with a few friends, it'll probably end up more being like an extended party than an oriental study trip, but the stuff you mentioned are still there - its just becoming more of a tourist attraction than a Chinese local thing. If you want something REAL inedible, go try animal penises (personally dont know where to find them, to be honest).

Also, the big question is, which part of Beijing would you be staying in? It can easily take up to an hour to travel from one side of city to another, and another 2 hours if you want to go to the countryside.

Haidian District. Was told that it's a bit out of the city. I don't speak ANY Chinese so if anyone wants to meet up/hang out for a day or two. Just say the word.

Go visit Wudaokou subway station, lots of good clubs around the area, lots of college kids

A list of the funnest clubs I went to

Xiu--"Silk"; 100RMB cover gets you a glass of champagne, dress code: dress to impress, lots of bankers and consultants
PPG aka Propaganda--korean honeys and the white dudes that go hit on them; go if you wanna get laid
Lush @ Wudaokou--lots of fun
Solana--lots of fun
Silk Road--lots of fun, go there with a group
There are other bars and clubs too

china is awesome. you should also try going to korea. smaller so it's easier to get everywhere. i would say food is a bit better to.

UPDATE:

My third day here. All the Chinese I know is Ni-hao and Xie-Xie, but somehow I'm managing to get by fairly well. Only 2-3 people I've met in the street have spoken to me in English. I managed to get food at a corner store by pointing. My index finger is currently my most valuable asset.

First day here me and my cousin went cycling through the streets. Cars come within inches of you, but don't hit you. Not the first time I've experienced this;so I'm not really bothered by it. We had lamb and a spicy bean/peanut dish which was really good.

Second day (yesterday). Went out for drinks and food at a place called "First Floor". Met the street vendors. Had lamb testicles (FUCK YEAH!) among some more edible parts of lamb on a stick. Food from barbecue vendors is so fucking good. Emphasis on the "fucking good" part.

Oh and I got lost hardcore for about an hour and a half. Went to a park "Temple of (something) Moon". I had ran into it by accident. Went in one way and out another way thinking it was the same entrance I had gone in originally. Found my way back (eventually). Shit was bad haha.

Afterwards went out clubbing to a place called "Vicks". Which was ok. The music was good, but the alcohol was watered down. I ordered three shots of Jack Daniels for me + two of my cousins friends that I was with. The guy said it was 190 Yuan in English. I pretended like I heard 90 Yuan because I'm not stupid. I gave him the 90 Yuan, but he took another 20 from my hand and I just stared at him. Somehow he still managed to rip me off even though I knew it was rip off from the beginning. Though 90 was probably still higher than the price for "non foreigners".

If anyone is in the area and wants to go out/meet up. PM ME! My cousin has school + work and I don't want to be a burden on her so much. Although I do go out on my own to site see/interact and eat your kinda of limited by the language barrier.
