That was quite touching. I always come back to games though, for the nostalgia.. You can't truly quit games my friend. I always end up once a year fishing for a 22 pounder:

You'll be back!

As for the forums, my account is new, but I have an older account that's been around for a few years. The answer is quite simple, and you probably know: sc2 came out, increased traffic enormously, thus birthing a bunch of young idiots that don't have manners. I have no idea why mods don't IP ban for 1-3 months at a time. Should keep most people and keep the forums tighter and smaller<-- (lol). Traffic will still be super high. People still need help, but at least they will actually look for the info versus posting useless threads; also that would prevent a million bm posts... Alas, not my sandbox.

Farewell!

I too grew up with BW (and D2 ^^ ). I quit gaming right at 20 after I realized playing WoW was sucking up a lot of my time for a lot of running around doing nothing, and there was college to be had!

And then in 2010 I found out about SC2 beta aaaand at 23 I'm more hardcore of a gamer than I ever was. You may be back, you may not, who knows!

Been around TL for a long time, but not as long as you have. I lurked. I never created an account because I never felt like I belonged. Recently I decided that was a dumb way to think. With the new fantastic crowd of gamers, and their *ahem* comments, I actually feel like I belong even less than before.

Good luck wherever life may take you. (even if that's right back here!)

Like someone else said, you can quit gaming but not the community, either way you may be coming back sometime so never say never I myself quit BW and SC2 too but I still have both installed in my HD, I know that wherever I feel like it I will go and play some more.

It is always a bit sad to read goodbyes. I agree with all the people who pointed out that quitting a game doesn't mean you have to quit the community. Personally I have never even tried to play a game seriously. Still my love for Starcraft has lasted since 2001 or something, just to be replaced by SC2 a year ago. I played Broodwar way more than I play SC2, but I really love watching streams, vods, interviews or whatever SC2 related. Including lurking and forumwhoring. Hope you at least stick around in the community, or return after taking a break.

When I read your first paragraph, I kept thinking how weird it is that I don't know you even though we kind of have the same history on this site. Long time lurkers That's Internet for you, I guess.

Either way, take care, hope to see you back!

Sad to see you go. However your priorities must be respected by others and yourself - that's personal freedom. Because it is problematic if gaming interferes with your other priorities and then it must be done that you 'quit' in order to have a straightfoward perspective.

I remember when i 'quit' gaming in 2001/2002. My school 'career' was always on a knifes edge in part due to gaming. So i decided to dramatically 'quit' and focus on school. And indeed i then went on to do well in school and even continue to university to get a degree! (I now have a computer science degree). In this time i learnt a lot! Math, computer science, a dash of physics and some RL lessons. However i 'returned' to gaming a bit before finishing my degree in about 2007 - so i guess i _properly_ 'quit' for about 6 years - that was really a bit jarring.

At this point let me mention that no i haven't 'returned' to comptetitive gaming. I 'returned' to casual gaming (and especially watching commentaries!) - and haven't regretted returning at all. I only played a bit on iccup - i never played enough to go beyond D level. I'm an old scool gamer who played SC when it came out in 1998 - my PC was even too slow for SC at that time! (if you can imagine that - it was a Compaq Presario 90Mghz) - but i digress...

However having 'quit' and now 'returned' i feel that i can have the best of both worlds - RL and gaming! I can have the pleasure of playing while still having the personal freedom of doing anything i want in RL!

So much for my little nostalgia/soap box wall of text.

I hope someone found this entertaining to read and enjoy your day! (*psheldr goes back to cleaning the toilets)

As others have said, why do you have to leave TL? I can understand if you cut down or quit gaming, but you can still hang out here in the community.

I hardly play any SC2 at all (maybe a few games on the weekend) and basically no bw anymore, yet have been a somewhat active reader/poster here since 2002, and I am pushing 30. Basically I just watch gsl nowadays.

Just cut back on your gaming, and no need to leave the community, to reiterate what others have said.

Wat I can understand leaving gaming for a bit, but why leave TL? I haven't played sc2 in months, and it's been at least a year since I even touched BW, but I stick around TL for the awesome community!

I quit a couple of times before, back on CS twice and in WoW once. Kept coming back, now I just realised I am a game like other people have theory hobbies. And I don't intend to quit again, maybe alter my playtimes etc, but I won't quit ever again.

About the forum, I can't really judge because I'm so new here, but the amount of garbage/hate is quite sad sometimes, but something I saw in every online community . As soon as something is online and they can hide behind some alias it brings out the worst in people. In general I f-ing love this site and community in general

Tbh, I feel the same as you, about the fact that sc2 doesn't really excite me that much, so I just stick to GSL, OSL, MSL, Proleague etc.
And I haven't quit this awesome community even though I haven't played in a while (save for the fact that I do log in once per month to play like 4 custom games with my friends because they only have time for that then) so yeah.
Don't quit TL :T
However, if you are still adamant about this decision of yours, I wish you good luck.
End my suffering
