I have used both myself and love them. I know of cheap software that works pretty alright and I've seen great work from it. Try Magix: http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/ or Pinnacle: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer Products/Home Video/Studio Family/ As always, try the software out before buying so that you know if you're making a good choice. I've never used either of these myself, but have seen talented people use them and like them over the years and they're a cheap alternative.
